Wonder if Danny, or more specifically, his agent is overplaying his hand?

Hurley would be passing up on a great year next year, that would make any ambitious coach think twice if he could do better. I think Rugers is a destination spot for him, maybe he has different notions or is fearful . Either way , taking a few days isn't asking much.

I'd rather end up with one of our assistants promoted than to have left Eddie in charge.

So...

If Hurley rejects $2 mil for 6 years (which is plenty for that guy considering he was just coaching highschool 5 years ago and hasn't done anything earth shattering in the college scene to date) and Lonergan just has no interest in leaving GW...

We should have kept Jordan. Even though you spent the last month of your life crying that he needed to fired.

And it would all be Barchi's fault.

I think you should step away from the keyboard for the next few days and let this play out.

Nailed it
You're posting like a whiny b*tch, Bac
Stop with the nonsense

Eddie is gone
That was the best move Hobbs could have made regardless of who the next coach is.
Overpaying for Hurley is ridiculous.
If he is holding RUTGERS hostage, screw him. Stay in Rhode Island for the rest of your career.

Hurley is also thinking about the jobs he would be in line for after a great year next year.

I'd certainly be rooting for that.
I'm not rooting.
I understand the risks and the coaching graveyard aspects of this job.
However, it would be nice to see some swagger (like Ash), that you are going to come in, roll up your sleeves and go to work.

Even with lots of assurances, 6 years, and big money and we are still turned down. We are getting someone way down on the pecking order I'm afraid.

I'm not worried that we will get a good coach, but I am bummed that this will be spun as Hurley rejecting Rutgers (which may or may not be the case) and will be used as continued ammunition to just rip on our school.

There are so many coaches out there who are better candidates, that won't turn RU down....and it won't cost us a preposterous (for Hurley) 2mm/year.

Hurlwy has 1 NIT to show for his 6 years as a head coach. Rejoice that we didn't get him, and be saddled with his high salary.

We got turned down by the Hurleys. But there are other winning coaches out there who will want to come to RU with facility commitments in place.

I feel that this may be a breath of fresh air for RU BB. No reason to curl up into the fetal position. Act like a man !

He never was taking the job, don't you get it, now we can really do this the right way.

Serious question: Are you capable of making a comment on this board without some sort of condescending little sweetener thrown in?

"Look" "Listen" "Hey buddy" "C'mon" "LOL" "Don't you get it?" "C'mon man, you know better"

Every. Single. Post.

Don't read my posts then? This comment wasn't even intended to be "condescending," nor do I feel it is. so not sure what to tell you. Buddy. [thumb2]

Lighten up, no need to be depressed when a coach with 0 NCAA appearances turns us down at 2-million a year. Their loss.

Plenty of good coaches want the job.

Danny Hurley is not Coach K. If the job is too big a challenge for him or if he thinks he can make more money elsewhere or if he simply didn't want the job, better we find out now and wish him luck in future endeavors. From what we have seen of Hobbs, he does not want a coach that is not all-in. I trust him on this and think we will end up in a good spot when all is said and done.

Great basketball pedigree, hard nose recruiter, I wish more but I don't want to burn my source. if Rutgers is committed to upgrading facilities, RAC, etc. This hire will not only be great for you guys but for NJ Hoops as a whole. Be patient, don't forget when Hobbs was at SHU we were hearing McCaffrey and some others. Ended up being willard.

Part of my reason for wanting Hurley to be coach (Sednek was my #1 from the start) is to put the whole "what if we just hired a Hurley" thing to bed. Either it was going to help us succeed or it wasn't. I'm just tired of the name popping up every time there's an opening, or needing a quote from Bob Sr. every time we hire a coach.

Is it a named thrown around the boards a lot lately, or somebody that hasn't been talked up much?

If you are so sure, when will this name be announced?

Hall - are you suggesting Hurley wasn't the top target? Possible but seems hard to buy given all the noise.

Mike/Upstream-you can see I am a SHU guy, I don't have any insights into RU Athletics, this was told to me by someone very well connected to basketball and I trust, frankly he hasn't been wrong. I heard by the end of this week there will be an announcement.

If true, sounds like Masiello, just BC no NCAA coach Cluess, Dooley or Pikiell would have even interviewed this week
