OT- Why was this song pulled CMT?

I have a few thoughts about this controversy. I haven't listened to the song, but I can assume it sucks because it is by Jason Aldean. I love good country, but bro-country is the worst. It is nothing more than pandering mad libs. Literally today I was subjected to a couple hours at a public place where they were playing music over the speakers. The pop garbage was 100x better than all the Luke Bryan/Aldean/....every other garbage bro-country crap they were playing. When T-Swift and Miley Cyrus are better than your song in any way, you officially suck.

I read the lyrics provided and it just another Jason Aldean "in my town" song. As proof, he released some garbage album in 2019 that was reviewed by the website Saving Country Music. A commenter humorously added their own fake track list on the album. Here is what they posted.

You left out the tracklist:
1. Skidmarks On Your Town
2. What a Towny Town
3. Too Small a Town for My Whiskey
4. Everywhere I Go In This Town, I Smell Her Armpits
5. Town (reprise)
6. Towns (medley)
7. Towns (slight return)
8. My Town Can Beat Up Your Town
9. Tattoo of My Town On Your Back
10. You Don’t Understand My Town
…you know…same as the last album…

Having wrote all that, so what if he released this stupid song? If you take offense to what he is implying in the lyrics, perhaps you need to look in a mirror. He could be singing about anyone. Anyone that does bad things will get their comeuppance in a small town....unless you're Joe the meth-head or Sally the motel ***** crack-*****. Then go about your business. In those cases, race was never mentioned just like in the song, but we seem to have an image of who they are about. Don't be a bad person or people will look down on you and sometimes even deal with you how they see fit. Wow!

I guess I’m a fan of bro country. Must be a boomer term. So for the record you like “t-swift? and current pop music more than Luke Bryan “rain is a good thing” ? If so- turn in your man card.. oh wait. It’s already gone

I just came back to check. Of course it's now about a Red state sexy governor and weed laws. Not sure what that has to do with a song being banned on CMT but carry on.

And by CMT banning it and people talking about it he is making a lot more money. Well done CMT.
Yeah...I think this was a brilliant move by them.

Just like the marketing for Sound of Freedom...

The days of old time marketing are still effective to a degree but this kind of stuff is brilliant.

Think back to when you were a kid and your Dad said you could not watch a certain movie or show or comedian.

I can still remember watching Andrew Dice Clay on volume 0 in my basement so that my Dad would not find out.

Cmt doesn’t make money by banning a song.. you do realize this, correct?

I do...

But it keeps their name relevant. I actually did not know CMT was still around until today.

I get your point but this will only help them in the long run, I think. I could be way off. I also thought that cell phones would not "catch on". So...

I can't stand pop music either, but that is how bad Luke Bryan and the like are. Dude is like 48 singing about college ragers with 17 year olds. "Shake it for me" sounds like some garbage you would hear in those 90's booty rap songs. Do not question my man card. I enjoy good modern country like Jinks, Sturgill, Tyler Childers and ZACH Bryan and not Kane Brown pop country crap. BTW, I don't know you personally but I know I am the one that was in the Marine Corps. Maybe you were too.

How to I respond to that? I have heard about two songs by Jason Aldean and Dirt Road Rap or whatever the hell it is called is enough to know I can't stand him. As stated prior, I like actual country that don't suck. As for politics, please don't confuse me with some idiot Biden voter. I follow and understand politics far better than about 90% of the populace, but I don't discuss it too much in public.

One thing about Biden is I can’t imagine him giving a **** about Jason Aldean. Appears to be a classic rock, 60s soul music guy.

While I don't disagree that CMT f'd this up and pulled the song

Ask Kristi about how the people of her state voted for legal marijuana and the minute it happened what did she do? COVID happened, no shut downs "It's our citizens right to do what they please" fine.. But your citizens vote for legal pot, what happened to your citizens to do what they please then?
A case of rules for thee but not for me.

Hell, I introduced my son to Andrew Dice Clay. He even met him and had coffee with him.

I even texted him a limerick.

What you do and say, its always quite ballsy. It's a lot harder to do, when you're stuck with Bell's Palsey.

Andrew was a giant in that genre.

It clearly states to legalize, regulate and tax marijuana; AND to require the Legislature to pass laws regarding hemp as well as laws ensuring access to marijuana for medical use

The reason it got shot down in the courts is because it included two items.. Rec and Medical
Wild hemp should have been legalized years ago. It actually never should have been illegal to begin with. The only reason ditch weed exists is because it used to be legal (called industrial hemp), it was grown by Nebraska farmers and used in multiple ways by U.S. manufacturers including for the war effort during World War II. Can you imagine the money that Nebraska farmers could have in their pockets if it became legalized and a market for it existed?

But alas our state politicians care more about the lumber and oil companies that give them money than they do about Nebraska farmers.

The market for hemp fiber is undeveloped, but hemp derived CBD now powers the fully legal light THC market in nearly every state, thanks to the fed law legalizing hemp based products. The wonders of organic chemistry.

No idea but Aldean's music continues to decline. The first time I heard that song I thought, God that song is terrible.
Aldean sucks.
Aldean sings bro country. His best songs never made it to radio. Anyone watched a cmt video lately? So cringey I get embarrassed and have to shut it off.
Aldean absolutely sucks, and everyone knows it. But that's really not the point here, is it?

lol dude thats way too wordy and full of medical mumbo jumbo and you know it. The potheads could have just put "legalize pot yes or no" and didnt for a reason, they wanted confusion.

"clearly". Laughable

Usually that’s just a bunch of jackasses opining about football. That’s why I’m here. Maybe Noem has a take on whether Sims is all that and a gag of chips. Once upon a time, midwestern governors of both parties didn’t feel the need to weigh in on contrived culture war items. Sadly, that time is past.
Also, once upon a time, America wasn't full of a bunch of tyrants who control everyone and commies who bend over and take it, and so a song like this would not have been written and, if it were, CMT would not have censored it.

Once upon a time.

State law requires the Attorney General to draft a title and explanation for each initiated measure, initiated constitutional amendment, constitutional amendment proposed by the Legislature, or referred measure that may appear on an election ballot. See SDCL 12-13-9& 12-13-25.1.

The Attorney General's explanation is meant to be an "objective, clear, and simple summary" intended to "educate the voters of the purpose and effect of the proposed" measure, as well as identify the "legal consequences" of each measure

I don’t really care about the result as much as measure was voted on and some didn’t like the result so it was nullified

I bet the vote would have stood had it turned out the other way

Funny thing is I remember the first time I heard the song and thought oh, great. Another wannabe cowboy from suburban Georgia acting like they grew up on a ranch like Chris LeDoux.

Partially why I like Eric Church. He isn't a fake country boy who has to repeatedly sing about the south.

It’s the govt job to approve the language or educate its constituency about what the proposal states.

It’s some fascist **** to just decide what the electorate voted isn’t valid

Why not just purposely make proposals vague and if those in power like the results let it stand and if not nullify it claiming the language was confusing
It was initiated by petition circulated by out of state interests. One of the reasons Noem wanted that AG gone stemmed from his language explaining that ballot. Then he went and killed a person walking on a highway shoulder at night
