When the Big Ten was at 8 conference games, Iowa scheduled games with Arizona, ASU, Pitt, etc., on top of ISU. Your narrative doesn’t hold water….again.

The reason Pitt WV was sort of big last night is because it was Thursday night, it was the Backyard Brawl and that is about it. If that game had been in week 6, no one would have cared.

We have NO room to talk. We just need to figure out how to win 6 games and be bowl eligible. How long has it been, 5 years now?

We're now Minnesota of the 21st Century. But while they're irrelevant in CFB they still put together decent teams occasionally.

It was ONE PLAY, it wasn't a turnover, pick six, etc. It gave up maybe 30 yards of field position, that's it. Have some perspective. It's not why we lost the game. Our defense basically got dominated the WHOLE DAY by NORTHWESTERN! Over 500 yards of offense. The only thing the onside kick did was probably detracted 30 yards from their total offense stat. That's what makes sense.

You think we’re bad now? NW used to be astonishingly bad, and were that way for decades. I believe they had a couple of winless seasons and several with one or maybe two wins. Anyone with a pulse would beat them by 4+ touchdowns easily. They are light years better than they were, and have been competitive most years for a while now. What used to be a gimme win is now if you don’t bring your A game (last weekend), you’ll lose. Quite an accomplishment given their academic hurdles.

I’ve never understood why Iowa fans want to make silly comparisons with the SEC. The SEC is the king on the field. Best players bar none. Iowa took the ksu blueprint of scheduling non conference cupcakes, a lot of traditionally irrelevant teams do, it’s the only way they can occasionally make a run at a decent season. I’d be impressed if Iowa scheduled two P5 and gave up a home game if needed, they are not at the level of scheduling like the “SEC”.
