So when I tell you per the LJS we have the most transfers (37) since the end of 2019 you say well northwestern lost their top 2 backs. Okay. But their total is only 11 transfers. So it happens all the time? Yes and no. Don’t only look at the numbers but look at the context of players leaving. The face of the program. I mean every stupid husker online video made featured wandale. Luke was labeled the future face. Almost every player from Miami transferred.
Do I think the sky is falling? No. But after 3 years and 3 losing seasons do I think frost is not who we thought he was? Yes.
I have also said I think we will have a better season this year even with the transfers. However, 1 winning season in 4 Years? so let’s say we see these red flags from frost and after 5 years we haven’t won the west? This is a program that should win the west 1 time every 3 years at least. it can and should be done.
No matter how you slice and dice it frost has failed in every aspect of this job minus recruiting rankings.
Tell me something else he had won at and it might change some of our attitudes
I have no problem with a wait and see attitude based on results so far and while I can certainly justify why attrition is higher for a transition coach, the identification and retention of players needs to improve. Some of the Florida kids seemed like they were out the door before they got here. Are we creating the sense of family necessary to keep homesick kids from leaving early in there career.
While I like the WR group exactly as it is, we would all feel better if Robinson was a returning JR and a guy or two from the 2018 transition class like Watt would have panned out and was productive returning SR. Throw in some cleaner football and a couple more wins so we don't have 5 losing seasons in six years and it probably much easier for the show me folks to get excited about guys like Manning, Betts and Fidone and the young lineman.
I still have belief/hope this thing will take off in 2021 and offensively exceed 2018 and along with a solid defense and cleaner football a real shot at West and continued momentum. I also don't see this as Kool Aid or pipe dream but legitimate possibility based on roster assembled and past success of the staff including Oregon, UCF and the 2018 offense along with continued incremental improved off the defense over last 3 years.
We have somewhere between 17-18 returning starters and some very talented young guys waiting in wings. We should expect this team to win in 2021 and staff should be held accountable in year 4 if this continues to be a losing football team.
