* My balls didn't swell up from HF&M, fortunately. Did have 3 weeks of intense nerve pain, lost all finger/toe nails and a 103 degree fever for a few days. Kids!

* Horsey has gotten worked in every audition to date and you are replacing two other pros.. the OL is going to be a problem. Stoops will have the DBs ready when it matters, the WR room is solid and we have a stud QB... just give him and the RB room some space and we will be fine.

* Despite all the Bahamas fun, this team's success hinges on Wheeler and that doesn't give me a ton of reassurance. I'd wager that by February Wallace will be running the offense.

* Would like to kick Mark Emmert in the nuts. I would also like to kick Bo Ryan in the nuts, but for unrelated reasons.

^Cal will be here. My money would be on Stoops and/or Mitch.

Last Saturday seemed to signal the beginning of the end for MilqueToast. Football is in great shape and I don’t he want wants to deal with NIL at all or Cal anymore.

He’s done a great job comprehensively with the athletic department, revamping facilities, focusing on non revenue sports and creating the first capital fundraising arm of the athletic department in the K Fund.

It’s time for a more charismatic leader who can communicate more effectively with common fans and boosters , will fully embrace NIL and allow booze to be sold.

Anyone have the newer version of the long Grand Cherokee? Thinking about pulling trigger on the Overland L model, those captain chairs are a game changer. And front seats are massaging.

Hard to get rid of the Denali but really need SUV instead of truck with the upcoming growing family.

Horsey is fine on the inside, it's when they've tried him at tackle that he's struggled. Of course from what I understand the new blocking scheme is going to require the inside guys to make more solo blocks in space so that could be an issue. Either way, some good young talent on the interior.

The OL is my biggest concern, but I wouldn't say I think they'll be a problem.

Still believe the D is going to be outstanding and that this could be the best UK team since Bear was here.

Marty smith was better when he was chasing down drivers in pit lane after a wreck

Mississippi State is adding a section to their stadium where fans can bring in coolers and drinks. Basically tail gate during the game in the stadium

-false. That dude is the walking personification of bro country.

-on that note super short dress pants + sneaks is an abhorration. As is the too short/too tight sports coat phenomenon.

^the only sec talking head type that knows how to dress correctly is Daymeon Fishback.
The basketball shoes all the guys at ESPN wear with suits is awful. I mean it looks lazy and unkempt, IMO. I’m sure Keeneland will be chock full of it though 🙄.

But of course you all have to take down the one redhead that gets TV time, bunch of hairists if you ask me, the whole lot of you.

TGIF Notes:

- Been settling in to this new school and new climate. It didn't take long for me to go from being "available to help out" to coaching a team. I really need to find a way to slowly fade out of this game. I don't want to be a "lifer."

- Teaching Juniors and Seniors for the first time in a long time. I had been teaching on the Freshman rotation for the last 7 years so it's been 8 years since my last senior class. I haven't taught Junior curriculum since BEFORE 9/11. I've had to brush up on some of my American Lit.

- Since I no longer worry about off-season head coaching duties, and because I'm teaching "new" curriculum and can't put it on auto-pilot, I've been busier than a 3-legged cat in a litter box. It's kinda cool to be ALL-IN on just the classroom again, staying on top of unit plans, and being "ON" everyday. I'm better for it.

- With that said, our football team plays the 2nd game of a Bowl Game fundraiser tonight and I have to be at the golf course at 7:30 tomorrow morning for a basketball fundraiser. Weekend ---> Boom. Already outta here.

- Why do high schools have their "Bowl Games" in August? I get that they're fundraisers, but calling them "bowls" seems strange.

- So my daughter is a freshman. She is having a couple of girls sleepover after the football marathon tonight. One girl is the little sister of one of my students. I'm not sure how those sentences read, but it makes me feel weird. I've never had classroom life spill over into my outside of classroom life quite like this.

- Some notes on MONROE COUNTY BBQ!!!!

* It is definitely "different" so I get that some folks may not be quite as enamored with it as others. And quite honestly, I've had some lackluster BBQ plates from some of the established places before.
* It's more than just the thinly sliced shoulder pieces. If you haven't had the bone-in half chicken from R&S (featured on True South!!), then you can't tell me nothin'! Also, her pork chops. And ribs. And burgers.
* I've never really heard anyone say they just can't stand it at all. Comments usually range from "It's OK" to "There is no other kind of BBQ."
* It IS spicy. They'll let you know.
* Lots of my buddies who have never tried it before now swear by it.
* That style of BBQ is spreading throughout South Central Ky and North Central Tn.
* One of the things that makes BBQ special is the regionalism of the product. North Carolina Style, South Carolina Style, Texas style, Memphis Style, etc. And then there's Monroe County style. How cute and quaint.
* Then of course there are those out there that serve smoked pork butt, chop it up, put it on a non-toasted Sunbeam bun, smother it in ketchup based BBQ sauce and call it "award winning" or "special." Many people prefer BBQ that way. Safe. Predictable. That's fair enough. It's also probably why there are so many chicken strip joints out there these days. Just a theory; I could be wrong.

  • 2 days ago marked my KookyKats / 20-year anniversary on CatPaw. The majority of my posts on Lair bemoaned ****** football experiences up in section 214.
  • My buddy’s dad, Dicky Gregory, sat next to me in every FB game for 7 seasons … he’s the guy who was tragically made a quadriplegic from a fall in the upper deck at Rupp. (Amazing article, chronicled by Greg Doyle). In any case, this season 2022, I dedicate to this season to his memory. A beautiful soul and deserved to see this type of UK FOOTBALL team. Dicky loved defense.
  • Hour 3, in West Virginia…8 more to go.
  • Picked up a couple Bardstown Bourbon Co., Fercullen blended whiskey bottles. Gift shop release… wild ride stuff if you like Irish. 21-year Irish Added in juice. BBCs barkeep kept pouring samples, so I kept drinking it.
  • No tears were shed last night as we said goodbye to my son… he’s been a complete prick the last month to us. Could be nerves… whatever.
  • Need to get back to my gym routine. Ate like a slob this visit. Gross.
  • Work. Grosser. My job sucks, but apparently I got a bonus direct-deposited last night… which is nice. [blood money]
  • House: weeding, framing my Keeneland booty for the bar (3 BW vintage photos & Horse blanket? The #3), dog back from neighbors, answering 300+ burning emails. Reality.
  • Got a Rare Character pick from Justin’s as well.
  • Saw mother-in-law at Nazareth Home in Louisville… my little boy was a bit traumatized by the peripheral scenes of old people wasting away. So sad. I said hello to every one parked in the endless hallway who’s eyes met mine. “Hello in There” by John Prine melts me.

this could be the best UK team since Bear was here.

They are light years plus a few galaxies away from the 77 team....if they even come close to that, then it will be historic in many ways. You may want to cool your jets until you see what transpires on the field the first few game.

* First day back at work. Covid hit me pretty hard.

My wife tested positive but never showed symptoms, 1 daughter tested positive and literally had a fever and headache for less than an hour. The little one never caught it.

* Having 80+ people at Lake Isabella for my 50th bday party super spreader event tomorrow. Got too big for my house.

* Received a magnificent care package from Krazy. Thank you, my man!

* My boss just brought me a bottle of Bardstown Fusion and a Four Roses Small Batch Select. Nice way to kick off the day.

* Start off tomorrow with some 10YO soccer action in Dayton, OH. Actually looking forward to this season, my little Lea loves it and they have a pretty good team with, most importantly, a fun group of parents.

* My HS CC & Track Coach passed away yesterday. Barry Binkley, absolute legend. Hit me pretty hard.

* I am currently using an app at my desk to keep track of a 4lb brisket flat that is smoking 8 miles away at my house. I love technology.

No Dr. Pepper, but I have seen recipes that call for a Dr. Pepper spritz when you wrap the brisket in butcher paper during the stall. I use Apple Cider Vinegar.

Went with the Meat Church Holy Cow! rub for this little guy.

* I think Wheeler will be surrounded with multiple shooters at all times, which will allow him to do what he does best. I'd love to see him play 22-25 minutes flat out pushing the pace. It is nice to know that you have other options at the point in Wallace and even Reeves & Fredrick have played some point in their careers. I like this team.

* I am so excited for football season. I always take the optimistic side of things, but we could legit go 11-1. 9-3 plus a bowl win is more likely, but still pretty fantastic.

We should really be able to run the ball and then hit big plays downfield. I don't expect Levis to have video game stats, but play efficient football and lead us to dubs.

The D is going to be special and I think the transfer RB is going to make more noise than people think.

* I want to beat Louisville so badly that at least 5 of their stud recruits decommit.

* I don't care if it is by 1 point or 100, we MUST beat the Vols as well. Beating those orange ******** consistently is the next step in our evolution.

* Alright, my meat is up to 147. The smoker temp has spiked to 242 for some reason (set at 225) with the smoke level set at 9. I better finish up my work so I can go home and wrap this puppy in about an hour or so. Happy Friday, you bunch of scoundrels.
