Plus this paying back only after getting caught to remedy the situation is bull ****. if that is the case, UK could pay everyone, then when caught, kid just pays money back, no harm, no foul. Tell the kid "hey keep that coin stashed, in case you get caught, you can pay it back, then we will give it back after the fire dies down." If he loaned / paid $12500 for a move before Wiseman committed to Memphis or hell after for that matter, Memphis is touched. Wiseman might as well go on and hire a trainer and get ready for the league.

NCAA rules ineligible but a Memphis judges ordered a stay(how convenient) for tonight’s game. They are working to restore it permanently.

Penny should have done the right thing for the kid and had him come here. Same with Cade’s brother.

Lol Penny is going to do the best thing for PENNY. Big time coaching is like politics. The coach will throw your *** under the bus every time to save himself

He may not be done, but all his scheming and planning regarding Wiseman just went down like the Titanic in the cold Atlantic ocean.
if there is evidence that you took part in paying a player, you’d have to think he’s getting canned. the ncaa still hasn’t come forth with their laundry list of punishments for other guilty parties. since they promise it’s coming i’ll wait to see what the new “rules” are when/if there’s no development.

How in the hell can he get a restraining order and get to play? That makes zero sense. lol is the restraining order against the ncaa? Like, the judge is telling the NCAA to stay 100 feet away from Wiseman? What a load of crap.

People defending Memphis on Twitter claiming $12K is no big deal.

I agree, $12K is no big deal if that is all it was.

But it wasn't. It was $12K from Penny. The same Penny who coached him in HS/AAU, was a Memphis booster and recruited him to play at Memphis. Pretty sure that is a definitive recruiting violation.

How did they not know this was going to happen?

Penny should wake up jobless when this is all said and done.

The resolution is obvious. This isn't about Wiseman. It is about Memphis and Penny. Wiseman can play. He just can't play at Memphis. That is not a draconian ruling. He can play at literally any other school, just not the school whose coach paid his family. Honestly, it is messed up that Memphis/Penny misled Wiseman and his family into thinking they could get him eligible at Memphis (not just eligible generally), and it also looks like Memphis/Penny withheld critical information from the NCAA, which could lead to other problems.

Couldn't agree more. If Penny was a stand up guy that really cared about Wiseman he would have told him to go play for UK and Cal because they've been recruiting you forever and it is in your best interest. He didn't though...

Yes, his attorney needs to quit saying Wiseman is eligible. He is ineligible there is just a temporary injunction in place preventing the NCAA from enforcing their ruling. Memphis playing him during this injunction would be foolish beyond belief and I can't think of a single reason a judge would intervene here.

We will see now what size balls the NCAA has.

Everyone at Ensworth where he played in Nashville, as well as friends and area coaches knew that Penny orchestrated the whole deal. Once Penny got him to Memphis the Memphis coaching job was a given. Also the TSSAA knew all this but still ruled him eligible when he shouldn’t have been. There was tampering and the move from Ensworth and Nashville to Memphis was a tampering move by his AAU (high school) coach Penny H. It wreaked from day one. He should have been ineligible in high school but the TSSAA got a lot of pressure and dropped the ball.

Bilas proposing wiseman pay the money back and regain eligibility? Are you kidding me? 100$ ? Maybe but even still a 12 grand loan from the booster/coach??? What more would you have to do to be ineligible??

You can’t cheat the system and if you do and get caught then it’s a life lesson. Penny and the Wisemans had to know this was a violation but did it anyway so the kid shouldn’t be allowed to play.
Hey jace2012, thanks for the reply brother. Yeah I know what you mean, I just don’t think The kid had anything to do with the cheating part. I’m sure he just wanted to play ball with his friends. Now I do agree with you about Penny. He knew what he was doing the whole time. Saw this young man was going to be a superstar and was going to do anything he could to get his hands in there.

As for the parents, no doubt they’re just like anyone that’s new to all this and was trusting in the big Pro Penny. It’s messed up with all of it really. I just hate for someone to take advantage of a young Kid. I stand by letting him play with his team. Even if they haft to hire another coach!! That’s not going to happen of course, but we never know I guess. Honestly, they should just let him pick another school and play this year. Lol.

Now if James was the one who took money and knew about all that was going on, he should be punished to. Not the whole season though. I don’t know really what I’d do. Rules are Rules of course, but like when Kanter was here, sometimes the rules aren’t as clear cut. Again, I just hate seeing a young man like that get F’ed over by a bunch of adults.

A line must be drawn or the adults will prey off the kids "ignorance" to do whatever they want. It sucks for the kid but actions have consequences.
