No risk in playing him. Memphis doesn’t care about games being vacated. That sort of worrying is reserved for blue bloods.

I hate to see the kid screwed over, but it isn't fair to let him play for Memphis at this point. I'd be okay with them letting him make his way to Lexington. That seems fair.

I'm betting that this will die the same death that ucheat, kansas, dook, LSU, and AZ problems did. Nothing to see here but more ncaa stupidity.

$11,500 is some serious coin for moving. I thought Wiseman grew up around Memphis ? $11,500 would be a fine *** house. Or a year rent on a apartment.

Crazy how Memphis stated that Penny gave the Wiseman family $11,500 to offset the moving expenses. The kid would in no way go anywhere else with that much money being given and in turn did create an unfair recruiting advantage. I see no way he get's cleared after this.

He should not be cleared to play at Memphis but ought to be able to immediately transfer & play if it was fair. Penny knew exactly what he was doing...he wasnt just being helpful. This is all on him.

Well now Memphis will be the latest program to stop accusing us of being dirty when its known now that they are. The future of college basketball, cheating at its best. :)

I remember there's a rumor that Billy Donovan volunteered to move Patrick Patterson and his family to Florida.

BREAKING: Memphis attorney Leslie Ballin says James Wiseman has been ruled ineligible. He says the NCAA determined Penny Hardaway helped Wiseman and his family move to Memphis in high school. They are considering Penny to be a booster. I just found this lol
But everyone says Cal cheats. Penny a booster, that's a new one for a HC.

That amount of money is probably reasonable for moving an entire household. I moved from a two story home four hours away and it cost $12,000 back in 1997.

The thing about this is penny moved him to Memphis to play high school and aau. He didn’t move him there for college. Implicitly he may have but the timing would have affected hs and aau. Like I said having a rich aau and hs coach who becomes a college coach then recruits those same aau and hs players he coached well this is probably the tip of the iceberg.

I'm interested to hear this judges legal theory on how an injunction is appropriate here. @UKnCincy if I understand things correctly, a preliminary injunction should only be given when the injured party is expected to win on the merits of the case. I don't see how that is possible.

2 story home and 4 hours away. meaning lots of stuff and long distance. Was Wiseman not a Memphis resident ? I would think moving across town (based on how big of a dwelling Wiseman lived in before), would not cost that much. I moved from a 3500 sq. foot house across town here in BG for about $1000.
Key is, was the money ever repaid, whether it be $12,500 or $1250.

Another aspect of this is potential violations by Penny. The statement released by Memphis said that the NCAA initially declared Wiseman eligible in May, but that additional information later came to light. If that information did not come from Penny and/or Memphis, then they could be in real trouble for hiding information that directly impacted Wiseman's eligibility.

Yeah, something definitely doesn't add up there.

Maybe but the difference is this money came directly from his current coach not some random booster.

The difference is he loaned it to him BEFORE he committed to Memphis, hence the recruiting advantage. Think about it, a guy floats you $12500 , could you even consider signing with another team ? Knowing in your mind, "He gave that kind of coin before i signed to play for him, wonder how much i can get after i sign ?"

Similar to what some of these agents do.

Which in turn makes the current coach a booster right?

Thats right but someone was implying that wiseman May be able to pay the money back in order to find a remedy. If a coach gives you 11500 how could the ncaa use this remedy? The reason wiseman picked memphis was hardaway. The reason he picked hardaway is bc he’s been taking care of him even before penny became coach. I honestly don’t see any remedy for wiseman and how in the hell can a county court usurp the ncaa??
