This is real. Penny botched this in ways inconceivable. When I first heard this, I didn’t believe it true. There is no way he and Memphis didn’t realize this would be a huge issue.
I feel badly for wiseman. This isn’t a case of a kid with his handout. He would be eligible anywhere else. Shame.
Penny is a fool.

Judge grants temporary injunction. Memphis going to play him which seems risky if they ultimately lose.

Dirty Penny and Memphis. Not a Wiseman issue. Neither was it a Kanter issue, but oh well...

I’ve been saying this all along with penny. When I coached hs and club soccer I always bought my kids food, clothes you name it. Those kids who don’t have much it’s hard to turn when they are in need. Penny took care of these kids as an aau coach and high school coach. It’s all gonna come crashing down in Memphis

I hope for your sake you are not really this stupid. The ban was specific to Memphis and Penny - a school can't hire a booster as coach then let him recruit a kid he had constant contact with. Wiseman could have played at Kentucky -- or any other school that didn't hire his AAU coach specifically to sign him.
Oh you sweet summer child. You don’t know the half of what’s gone on behind the scenes here.

This is almost as eyebrow raising as Bagley being eligible to play for Duke.

I feel sorry for the kid that backed out of Kentucky to go to Memphis. [jumpingsmile]

Transfer and play where ever he chooses just not at Memphis. That whole recruitment with Penny never seemed on the up and up. If he plays a game for Memphis they should forfeit that game. Eff them all!

This type thing is getting a little old with these judges. Parsing rules of a private organization isn't within their scope unless there are constitutional matters at hand.

Dude, don't compare buying a hotdog for a hungry kid to paying for a kids FAMILY to move from Nashville to Memphis (210 miles) likely including housing. Stop.

I'm pretty sure they still play him at their own risk. This injunction or whatever it is doesn't mean Memphis doesn't stand to lose any game he participates in. At least thats my understanding.

The real shame in this is that what should have happened is now obvious:

When Memphis hired Penny THE NCAA SHOULD HAVE PREEMPTIVELY NAMED HIM A MEMPHIS BOOSTER AND BANNED HIM FROM RECRUITING ANY KID HE COACHED IN AAU.

How hard would that have been? Wiseman would be playing for Kentucky tonight.

Actually this is probably a good move for them, contest everything the ncaa says just like dook, kansas, and ucheats do. Worse that can happen to them is that they stay irrelevant for more years.

Penny hasn’t made a lot of friends in coaching, and there may be more than one whistleblower here.
A lot of times coaches a reluctant to get involved, even in overt cases. But I wouldn’t be surprised if some complaints have been lobbed.
