At this point, I have a real hard time seeing this team beyond the sweet 16. Too many turnovers from our guards, Not enough muscle on our front line, an inconsistent/non existent bench, and an inability to stay between their man and the basket. There is a reason we have foul trouble and Cal has had to utilize the zone more than ever this year. These weaknesses fluctuate in severity between wins/losses but they are consistently present this year.
But the most glaring weakness of all that will keep this team from greatness is that they appear (up to this point) to lack any signs of becoming "basketball assassins". By that--- I mean the type of team that will take their foot, put it on your neck, and grind it into the hardwood without any sign of emotion. The great teams have that killer instinct and I have yet to see it demonstrated in this group. That is why we can't ever seem to hold a lead, put teams away or crush the will of our opponents no matter how good or bad they are.
I'm hopeful they can correct these deficiencies by the tournament but won't be shocked if they don't.
