At least you got out of indyanear before too much damage was done. Also if you are not going to use your sec tournament tickets may I buy them please ?
i live in Tampa and don' have tourney tickets. Wouldn't be a very good investment this season for a Dawg fan.

Wheeler didn’t play well down the stretch. But the dude also played 38 minutes… a lot of his turn overs came 30-35 minutes into the game when he was wearing down from going so hard the first half. Guess that’s the con of having such a high motor

It’s feast or famine with Sahvir. He’s getting better coaching in Lexington. He’ll wow you and frustrate you, sometimes in the same possession.
This is exactly what we don’t need and I don’t understand our fans who are satisfied or even happy with this. There’s more to driving out bad habits than coaching and sometimes it can’t be done.

Wheeler isn’t our problem
Wheeler is a massive problem. Coming off of the worst season in history cal goes and gets a top fresh PG and buried a him behind a guy who led an even worse team last year. Not to mention stats don’t mean squat if you’re not winning. We had some guys with decent stats last year but we sucked.

My favorite player so far but he has to learn to stop dribbing into traffic and keep space. Space is his friend and he has to learn to manage the ball especially in critical trips down like we had yesterday when we really need to have a good possession. Just gets caught up in the moment I think but he at least adds a dimension we've lacked for a while in a guy that can break the defense down. I know he bothered Duke most of the game.
Maintaining space is great but you really need to be a threat to shoot a jumper from outside to help create it. His jumper needs a lot of work. Again, I was happy to try a different point guard from the portal which I believed might have better physical measurables and hopefully better decision making. My belief is the reason he decided to transfer was based on his and his father's perception that he is better than he really is. Definitely thinks highly of himself. Confidence is great and a necessity to compete. However, I believe his opinion of himself leads him to make a lot of the really bad decisions that he makes. You have to be able identify the things you do really well to succeed as well as the areas where you have deficiencies so you don't do things to hurt the team.

Seriously. Why don’t you lay off Wheeler and go back to the GA board? We just took a tough loss and your here telling us about one of our players tendencies.

Because I like talking about basketball with people who are passionate about it and there is very little activity on the Hoop Dawgs board. I also actually like the Cats even though I'm a Dawgs fan first. I'm trying to share info from having watched him play and like to hear your opinions. Were my observations out of line?

Just gotta say you guys could have done much better than Wheeler as point guard at blue blood Kentucky. I hope he doesn't drive you crazy trying to take it to the basket over bigs like he did at Georgia. Hopefully, he will settle down and realize he's 5'8". Drove me nuts.
No, we love him... Great little player and tough as nails... Sounds like sour grapes to me....

Not sure about out of line. But in his first real game against Duke he shot 6/15, 2/3 from 3, and hit both free throws I believe. Perhaps his jumper needs work, but it was pretty good yesterday.

You're welcome to your opinion. I actually root for UK against everyone except UGA. The best way I can describe my feeling about my frustrations with Wheeler when he was at UGA would be to compare him to Josh Smith shooting doomed 3 pointers when he played for the Hawks because he couldn't accept his limitations. I know one was a point guard and the other was a forward and they both had spectacular moments but the lack of awareness of their limitations drove me crazy. That being said, I still love college basketball and have tuned out the NBA in the last decade because I hate the emphasis on individuals vs a really good team focus and real strategy. i would much rather watch UT Chattanooga play College of Charleston than any NBA game. I guess I'm outdated and an old-time basketball purist.

You seem like a good person. Whatever floats your boat. Far be it from me to question a relatively new poster. A tough loss, coupled with an I told you so on Wheeler just ticks me off. Yes, he was out of control at times. Sure, he got blocked against a larger player several times. His shooting wasn’t the problem. It was playing 38 minutes balls to the wall, with no help from Brooks, Ty, or a coach that was capable of running any semblance of an offensive set.

What is her name and how old is she? I'm assuming she attended Lowndes High.

My intent really wasn't meant to be I told you so. I just love talking about college basketball. Wheeler was just something we both have in common. Sorry if my comments caused any hurt feelings. That really wasn't what I was trying to do. If I wanted it to be I told you so, I wouldn't have posted until after it became a reality. I love that Kentucky loves college basketball like I wish they would in Georgia.

This thread is embarrassing. The OP nailed it on the head. As crappy as Askew was and now we have to deal with a 5’8” at KY? It’s like asking a KY 3 star QB to go play at GA and have GA fans rave about it after a loss. Just embarrassing.
16 and 10 in his 1st career game at UK.
Played too many minutes at 38 and wore down in the last 5 minutes when he committed about 3 turnovers.
Ever heard of Muggsy Bogues? He was 5’3 and made All SEC. Wheeler has 5 inches on him too.
Wheeler has excellent vision, quickness, handles and obviously passing ability.
He can get to the rim at will and even score with either hand.
He will be a fan favorite (except for you) all season.

it is disheartening to have him just act like he's 6'10 around the rim but at least he does not give up on that style of play. We have not had much driving to the basket by anybody....its refreshing to see it. And he made some big 3s. Which is not what he could do last year.
