Get him back!

Ash sucks - not the answer.
imo

Can you tell him why he is not the answer? Can you explain what we should be doing differently with the roster turnover we had last year? Maybe some play calls have not been great, that being said he has kids excited about Rutgers football again. He has 1 year of an actual recruiting class. We have some actual B10 talent on the roster but we are not deep enough to make mistakes.

Take away the bad snap, the dropped Bailey ball, and the huge punt return and we probably win that game.

I don't want to get on Bolin too much, but isn't he supposed to be some terrific game manager?
1. Why does he look to the sidelines so often? Shouldn't he know the play?
2. Why are we snapping the ball with less than 3 second left so much?
3. Why do we have so many ticky tack false start and other penalties on offense?

1. They call the play with hand signals from the side line (and I am assuming some checks).

2. We run the clock low to make the game shorter and keep our defense off of the field.

3. Because we are young and inexperienced we make mistakes.

Game day was a problem and he seemed to have taken the program as far as he could. I remember thinking the negotiation on his next contract was going to be interesting until the Tampa job came out of the blue.

Sure he looks great based on where we are today and it would be interesting to see what he could do in the big ten but he definitely had his own set of issues.

Love to have GS back but have to give ASH a break. He is only in yr 2 and we are alot better than yr 1
What's truly scary is that Ash will win 3-5 games next year because of a much easier schedule and a more mature team. Which means he will finish out his contract.

This argument goes both ways. Take away 3 of NU's bad plays and they probably beat us by 20 instead of 10.

People keep saying this but how are we A LOT better in any aspect, other than the kickers? QB play is still terrible, Oline can't block, receivers don't get open and drop the ball, Dline doesn't generate any pressure, defense can't tackle at all, kick coverage still gives up big returns, and the coaches present no schematic advantage in any phase.

You hit the nail on the head. If Bailey makes the easy catch, its an RU first down and there is no punt on the next play. Big mo change there.

B10 East rebuild is too big a task at Rutgers level for a first time Head Coach. RU went on the cheap, hired a place holder at a bargin price ,and got what they paid for in Ash.Now we have to suffer thru the rest of this year and Next before we get a real coach, and then have him put his whole system into place.
Should have hired Schaino,Narduzzi or at least Fleck..The fact they didnt even hire Fleck showed everyone that RU was doing this on the cheap.
Ash's defense and special teams are bad,and the guys a defensive coach?
Recruiting is average at best for a power five program.
Inability to recruit at area's lacking of B10 talent:
defense ends/tackles,WRs and linebackers now showing on field.

NO... in all conceivable probability,Schiano will NEVER be the Head Coach at Rutgers again - it simply will not happen - the Schiano train has left the station and is never, never coming back.

Schiano & Rutgers are way out of sync in terms of resources, priorities, timing and situation. He is 51 years old - he will likely receive a huge salary offer (beyond RU scale) from a major university or two at the end of this year - or next year - and it will come with a very very healthy budget (beyond RU scale) for a robust staff & more than ample resources.... and be for at least 5 years - and he will take it. - So, that may go well - or not so well - but net effect will be that he will like be otherwise engaged for 5+ years - which would mean that the next time the Schiano comet would pass any where near the Rutgers earth for discussion would be at least 6-7 or more years from now - if at all

Unless he is an idiot, he knows full well the mountain of issues that would be associated with "going back to Rutgers" - he has changed - Rutgers has changed - but there would be thousands and thousands of knuckleheads who would be incapable of seeing & dealing in the new context - they would cling to past patterns of behavior . Schiano will have opportunities that will be more attractive than RU - and Schiano gets to make his own choices.

The idea of a triumphant return of the now near mythical Schiano makes for an interesting thought exercise - but from a very pragmatic standpoint it is simply prohibitively unlikely.

Likely the best advice for those following the Rutgers Football story-line is to not look for the return of a character from the past - but to look for the emergence of the next dynamic HC - be it Ash or who ever may follow.

Rumba gets it! RU had their chance and they did the RU thing - go cheap. The folks on this board that think Coach Schiano comes running at RU's call are sadly mistaken. If there is a slim chance it will be on Coach's terms or not at all.

I would love to see Greg come back, but sadly it will never happen. Hobbs offered him the job during the last search, but Greg was holding out for Miami. Hobbs in effect decided to move on as Schiano did not seem to really be interested in coming back. So we need to move and either hope Ash can get it done, or lets hope the next head coach is a hungry/charismatic guy WITH prior head coaching success.

Ash isn't exactly lighting it up on the recruiting trail, he's a defense guy whose defense looks soft, and he's proving to be a poor gameday coach. So...what exactly does he do that y'all like?
Blitz packages are terrible. They are so uncreative the other team has no problem picking them up.

Early indications are Ash was a product of the great talent that flocks to OSU.

Always a concern with these assistants.

Oh enough of the "Greg was 3-20" arguments. Bill Belichick could not squeeze more than 4 wins out of that roster. It was on par with today's Morgan State. I mean,...he had to start a fullback at CENTER!!!

Ah yes. FB/TE
I stand by my earlier comment though. Hope I am wrong but Schiano was the best this school will ever see largely in part to:

1) Rutgers will never pay up for a big time name. We could not even afford Schiano now even if there was a chance.
2) We caught lightning in a bottle with a young assistant named Schiano. Odds are slim we find that again. But if we do......
3) He will be gone as soon as he finds a "better" offer. Greg actually wanted to be here. He turned down Miami and Michigan to coach Rutgers?!?!! He finally left for the NFL once he discoverd he was stuck in the mid-major AAC.

Stop. Please. Don't. (Sounds like Willy Wonka)

Ash deserves a chance. At least four seasons. His rebuild might not be as dramatic as the task of following Shea, but it is pretty dramatic nonetheless. Give him time.

And for what it's worth, not only was Schiano 3-20, but he was an atrocious game-day coach. In the few competitive games we had, he showed time and again he was not the guy.

And yet he was ... then.

Umm, Game Day is a problem now as well. It was last year and the year before that and the and the year before that and the year before that and the year before that...

We cant recruit, we can't play, we can't coach, but we should theoretically say the guy who had us relevant, winning games ansx winning big games is not welcome.. unbelievable
