Why does almost every thread get taken over by ESTL talks? They are a great program, fantastic! I feel for the kids of the community that have to grow up in those 89 blocks. They get to travel out of state to play games....big deal...sometimes that means they only have to cross a river.
Here are some questions I have for ESTL fans?
1. How many players have you had in the NFL in the last 10 years?
2. What does Coach Sunkett do to promote education in the community?
3. After watching 89 blocks how was #4 academically eligible to play?
4. Where do all the funds for travel come from? Dont tell me Nike. That is not the case.
5. Of the scholarship athletes that go off to play college football, what is their graduation rate?
Can we please stop talking about your National schedule? That isnt about the kids. Its about the adults and their egos.
1. NFL is a short career. Several have received spots however, I am not sure what that has to do with High School. The goal is a shot a college to give them a shot a life. NFL is only the goal of individuals and their families.
2. He coaches football and with over 20 players currently playing college ball on scholarship, things are working just fine.
3. because he did his school work. 89 blocks was a season long converted into one hour. The same kid was academically eligible to play at Miami until he opted for the draft 3 years later.
4. People will pay to see you play. Any team willing to travel can. It’s nothing special about ESL and traveling. It’s 5 hours to some places in Illinois. They will always need to travel to play at a certain level. They are not located in Chicago. OOS teams pay you to travel, Illinois schools won’t. They do a home and home.
5. As of last year, it was 87%. Not too bad if you ask me.
How does playing out ot state against highly ranked opponents feed an ego? Your pay won’t increase and you most likely don’t have the resources to be highly successful.
In conclusion it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, however, it should never be perceived as a negative. Experiences will go a long way for these young men.
