For us? I wish we’d really push being known as “State”, but I absolutely loathe with every fiber of my being when we’re referred to as “Miss State”.

Depends to whom i am speaking. If it is someone from MS, I say State.
If it is someone not from MS, I say Mississippi State.

State.

I have some UGA fans try to give me **** about this, but we are the only school in the SEC called State. LSU is the only other school that could use it, but they don't. The closest states that could cause confusion would be FL or NC.

I used to have an acquaintance I only knew as Tennessee Joe and to him I was State Cochise. Most SEC fans use State. Most SEC fans are also more aware than UGA fans as well.

Ole Miss, but I work for ESPN, so...**

No, I prefer State or MSU unless I'm talking to someone from out of state, then it's Mississippi State

When speaking to an SEC fan or someone in Mississippi, I just say "State".
In other parts of the country, I'll specify "Mississippi State".

NEVER "Miss State" and I don't like "MSU" either cause everyone outside the south associates that with Michigan State.

State. I can't believe our AD hasn't jumped on this.

I thought the gray pullovers the football team wore last year were the start of something, but alas...
Seriously, though, there's no one else out there claiming it. I'd even lobby ESPN to have ST be our abbreviation on scoreboards.

Most sec fans that I run in to..... call us State. People are vague familiar, call us Mississippi State. I prefer State.

A few older folks in the GTR call us MSU but I haven’t heard that in years.

Only person I heard call us Miss State was that ahole on Memphis radio (Rebs 56am) back in the 90s.

Actually Adidas has offered a ton more sideline gear with “STATE” on the front this year.

My brother-in-law lives in Huntsville and refers to MSU as "Miss State". This is the first/only person I've ever heard it referred to in that way. It's cringy

Didn't we have "Miss State" in one end zone for years? Until Hail State?

State, Mississippi State, or MSU. We are NOT Miss State.
I can't stand Miss State, either, but it's our own fault people call us that. During much (all?) of the 90's, the first decade in which we were regularly on television, that's what we had on the front of our jerseys.

I prefer State. There aren't as many "State" schools in P5 as you might think. Out of 50 states, only 12 have a "State" school in P5, and most of them aren't nearby. The only three in the Southeast: Florida State, North Carolina State, and Mississippi State. And I hear "FSU" and "NC State" more than I hear "State" for those schools. So in most contexts, we are State. That's why I think we should try to brand ourselves as State.

Yep. I have a friend who’s a Michigan State alum and the State/MSU thing can be confusing. To him, we’re MSU South.

State. When I travel outside the southeast I refer to State as Mississippi State. State is in reality our unofficial trademark name.

I am a State man!

Interesting info. This makes me definitely want us to push "State" more.

Yes MISS. State in one endzone and BULLDOGS in the other endzone.

BULLDOGS... you know our mascot.... the one we are hardly ever referred to because this recent insistence on plastering HAIL STATE any and everywhere we possibly 17'n can???

I'm about sick of the HAIL STATE being everywhere. I get it, schools have catchy or traditional phrases or quips and that it is derived from our fight song and that we are trying engrain that as apart of our image and overall school moniker.

But damn it, we are the BULLDOGS , not the Mississippi State Hail States. Put BULLDOGS back in the endzone where it belongs and leave Hail State as something we say or on a shirt here or there.

As for the OP, being referred to as State works for me. I've never in person, heard anyone say MISS. STATE, that would be awful.

But I hear BO Bounds read adverstisement for The College Corner stores in Jackson, " get your Ole Miss or Hail State gear" ... ????? Can't stand that!

I might be alone on this but we're the Bulldogs and wish we would tone down the Hail State everywhere.

STATE. I wish we would embrace this. I feel like too many people are of the "poor lil misipi tate" mindset to think that we could brand ourselves this way.

To avoid the impending threads that will litter the board the first time the Eagles play on Sunday Night Football, I think we should just appease the Fletcher Cox haters and change the name of the university to Yazoo City High School.*

This is only true because you live (or mostly interact with people who live) in/near Mississippi. People in North Carolina don't call us "State." They call NC State that.

I'll check that out at the next family get together.

I only know one NC State fan, and she usually refers to her school as the wolf pack.
I have family in South Carolina and North Carolina, and I only remember hearing NC State, but they weren't a frequent topic.
