We need a coach committed to the college, developing a program, and keeping kids in school. Jay Wright at a place with the history of UK would put us back at the top.
I do feel the 1&D is over. There are many years where there should not be a 1&D, but Cal does not have that belief. We need to get ahead of it and make a change.
You can't say Jay Wright is (or is not) committed to keeping kids in school, nor is any more "committed to the college or developing a program" than Cal is. All you can say is that he has not been successful at signing the top players. Before Cal came to UK I think he had had only 1 OAD player. Being the coach at UK (or Duke, or UNC) gives you more options. After the past 3 years, maybe now Wright will start bringing in some OAD type players, who knows.
The OAD is an NBA rule, not a college rule or a coaches or players decision. It's a stupid rule, and Cal has repeatedly said he doesn't like the rule. Cal was the first to figure out how to use the rule to his advantage. And thus if there is a rule chance, I think he will be an early adapter to whatever recruiting philosophy best follows from the new rule. Maybe Wright will too, there is no way to know. Wright is one of the top coaches, and if/when Cal leaves, should be highly considered. Lets leave it at that!
It's obvious you are one of those who say that Cal pushes kids out the door. Ignoring that several times he has advised kids who thought they were OAD to return (Orton, Lamb, T.Jones, Teague, Goodwin, Poythress, WCS, Harrison twins, Briscoe, Diallo, Washington, Knox, Vanderbilt, Gabriel) because he thought it was in their best interest to return. Some listened, some didn't.
He's only had a few that wanted to return that he told not too. MKG was the prime example, and IMO a good choice. He was not going to learn to shoot. He went #2 overall. Given more time to see that he wasn't going to learn to shoot, he would have slipped further in the draft each year he returned.
