Seems as if a lot of Jersey kids being offered. What would be the attraction to picking them? Like RU, they aren't a traditional power.
Good academic school playing in the ACC.Seems as if a lot of Jersey kids being offered. What would be the attraction to picking them? Like RU, they aren't a traditional power.
They are likely the third or fourth option for kids in their own state (looks like only 3 of their 22 recruits signed in the 2018 class came from NC)...they get just as many kids from Maryland, DC, CT, and NJ...maybe they feel they can compete for the same level recruits better with Maryland and a Rutgers for northeast kids that want to play in slightly warmer weather...it's also a really good academic school...a co worker whose son plays lacrosse at Rutgers has another son who just graduated from Wake...Seems as if a lot of Jersey kids being offered. What would be the attraction to picking them? Like RU, they aren't a traditional power.

Would have enjoyed seeing everyone, but have no interest in the Derby.Dave, you were missed last night at my sisters Kentucky Derby party. Louie, Mazanek, Saunder, O'Reilly and Acosta showed up. We had a lot of laughs talking about our old poker games.
PS- there were 2 pools, one picking a horse out of a hat, and another picking for $5 any horse you want.
I pulled Justify out the hat, and had Justify (and Bolt d'oro) in the other pool. Won about $150.
Mint Juleps were good and some excitement when Robin Hoffman's Southwest Mac & Cheese caught fire in my sisters broiler, lol.
WF stinks.
It's basically a school to attend if UNC, NC St or Duke doesn't offer
Dave Cohen says hello. Boy did he get a raw deal at Rutgers. The head coach and assistant coach (Clawson and Higgins) have strong northeast ties -- Lehigh and Fordham -- as well as all the other Atlantic coast states. When he was at Lehigh, Higgins did a superb job recruiting Florida and Atlanta areas.
umm......... no.
might be way behind in athletics...... and might be behind Duke in appeal........ but, it's a great school and well respected (probably ahead of UNC and way ahead of NCSt).......

With all due respect I’m calling major BS on this post. Wud love to read any info to support the post.
US News Ranking is garbage. This is a comprehensive ranking. WFU is ahead of NC State, but behind UNC.

But for engineering and science NC State hands down over WFU.
Good academic reputation, yes. Winning tradition? No. Tiny stadium. Small, unappealing Campus (if you ask me). Winston Salem going under major redevelopment right now but is a shadow of its former self. I don’t see it
"My" list is not my list. But it is more rigorous and less subjective than the USNAWR list.Your list says Arizona State is ranked higher than Rice and Georgetown. Stopped reading there
Not surprising. Larger, more comprehensive Universities will rank higher on the CWUR ranking because there will be more and more impactful publications and patents out of the larger Universities.Your list says Arizona State is ranked higher than Rice and Georgetown. Stopped reading there
Wake Forest campus isn’t very big, but it is beautiful. Not sure how it can be labeled unappealing.Good academic reputation, yes. Winning tradition? No. Tiny stadium. Love statements like this, when there are many screaming about our current coach.Clawson’s a good coach.

Ranking of universities is fraught with more inaccuracies than rankings of high school athletes.
Center for World University Rankings
This Saudi Arabia-based consulting organization has published yearly rankings of world universities since 2012. Rankings are based on quality of education, alumni employment, quality of faculty, number of publications, number of publications in high-quality journals, citations, scientific impact and number of patents.
CRA Statement on US News and World Report Rankings of Computer Science Universities
https://cra.org/cra-statement-us-news-world-report-rankings-computer-science-universities/
"The methodology used — rankings based on journal publications collected by Web of Science — ignores conference publications and as a consequence does not accurately reflect how research is disseminated in the CS community or how faculty receive recognition or have impact. Furthermore, the list of venues is not public. So while some may debate the soundness of any bibliometric-based rankings, there will be no debate about the flaws in the rankings USN&WR has published; the methodology makes inferences from the wrong data without transparency and, consequently, it arrives at an absurd ranking.
Another important factor in USN&WR rankings is reputation. However, reputational rankings in a large, mostly disconnected community, arguably are problematic. It is unreasonable to expect that departments half-way around the world will have anything close to an accurate assessment of each other, given that they are speaking a different language, have different value systems, different levels of resources, and different goals.
Anyone with knowledge of CS research will see these rankings for what they are — nonsense — and ignore them. But others may be seriously misled."
The people in this thread slagging on an excellent school like Wake Forest are hilarious.
Think that part of the problem is the plethora of rankings and how each school will use the ranking that ranks highest to their advantage. Still maintain USNAWR is suspect, but one could make an argument for the ranking I cited above that it only focuses on research and not the quality of undergraduate education--which there is no definitive way to measure. They brag about the great education they got at RU and then go on to show us that they haven't got a clue how to research a subject or analyze information.
WF is the smallest power 5 school so that can be a strong advantage over the giant state universities. The golf team facilites are amazing.

I was talking about football recruiting of course
WF stinks.

Won 15 games in the last 2 seasons with 2 bowl victories.Wake Forest is a great school.
It is just another chance for NJ High School players to get a free ride at a great school.
That being said for Football, the only reason anyone would pick WF over Rutgers for football is if they were just too scared to play in our Division.
