He's not eligible this year? There needs to be some consistency with how the NCAA grants eligibility. Justin Fields plays an entire season at Georgia and then when it becomes apparent that he will have to wait another season (or two) to get the starting job, he transfers and is granted immediate eligibility at Ohio State.

Seems to be some confusion about this. Journal Star says he is expected to play immediately.

I don't get this one. Of all the areas of need. I wouldn't put TE as a high priority. Plus he has to sit out a year. Looking at his stats, it is nothing that stands out as an upgrade to what we currently have on roster. The only other teams after him were Iowa and K-state. (It is nice to beat out Iowa however) Unless Frost has other plan for him.

Rutgers fan here. Good pickup. He's an excellent receiver. Has a lot of upside. Was forced to play freshman yr when he could have used a redshirt yr to gain weight.
not so sure stats at Rutgers, known for high-powered offense and big-armed QBs, is a great tell on this kid's ability
as for the TE depth chart, we have Stoll, not exactly a world beater in terms of athletic ability, and a bunch of unprovens.
Coach Frost is clearly and rightfully concerned with pass catching depth, both at WR and TE, and adding a 6'6" target sure doesn't hurt.
Head scratcher to me, considering our lack of scholarships next year and more urgent needs at other positions. Nothing about him seems to stand out over the other 5 tight ends we already have. He was only a 2-star recruit out of high school.

Iowa fan checking in. Don't let his rank out of HS scare you. He has good size and is a good receiver. Iowa staff wanted him but backed off a little after his visit to Nebraska. Iowa has been recruiting TEs well this year and are in on some good ones so he may have found playing time tough next year, even if he played some this year.
Iowa whole offensive strategy revolves around the TE and developing them. I have no doubt Iowa could have probably used him and turned him into a good TE. Neb doesn't. I just don't see the point of filling a scholarship spot with another middle of the road TE.
'middle of the road' seems like quite the assumption from the peanut gallery who've yet to see the kid in uniform.
perhaps, and I know this might be a stretch to you, all-knowing poster, the offensive staff have thoughts on how to utilize a 6'6" receiver with natural ball skills in a fast-paced offense.

I hope you're right. He didn't exactly tear it up at Rutgers. Jack Stoll put up better stats last year. If he was a stud, I would think he would have been a focal point for the Rutgers offense. He only had 2 TDs all season.
If he is legit, I would have to think either Allen or Rafdal will move on after this season. The TE room will be pretty crowded in 2020.
those 2 TDs tied for the team lead last year. Rutgers receivers totaled 5 receiving TDs all season. They threw for, as a team, less than 1,600 yards.

Still middle of the road when comparing other TE in the NCAA. He was still 2nd TE on Rutgers. The other TE had more yards and played 3 less games. Spin it however you choose the dude is nothing special. Im not saying he can't be or won't be. I have no idea what Frost plans to do with him. I trust Frost knows what is best. Just raises my unprofessional eyebrow.

I think this transfer fits the pattern of what Frost said a while ago. Frost said he feels an urgency to surround Adrian with weapons because Adrian will probably be gone before we know it and they really need to take full advantage of his abilities now. WR Noa is a similar situation. IMO I'd say neither are necessarily better than what we have BUT they add experienced depth and thus a measure of insurance in case of injury or someone else not panning out.
