I think this transfer fits the pattern of what Frost said a while ago. Frost said he feels an urgency to surround Adrian with weapons because Adrian will probably be gone before we know it and they really need to take full advantage of his abilities now. WR Noa is a similar situation. IMO I'd say neither are necessarily better than what we have BUT they add experienced depth and thus a measure of insurance in case of injury or someone else not panning out.
I don't think Noa, a senior, transferred from a Power 5 program where he started and had success just to be an insurance policy or a backup plan for us. What sense does that make? I expect him to play a lot and make a difference.

Travis on the other hand will be a true sophomore and has time to develope. It's a plus that he already has Power 5 experience. 6'6, 250 can't be taught. We have an abundance of size and potential at the position. Very exciting!

Scholarship or walk-on? Playing TE or defense?

TE that may be a "blue shirt"...no schollie during the year he RS (next season) and then go on schollie the season he becomes eligible. IF this is the case we could still take another '19 schollie player to reach the 30 limit

I don't get this one. Of all the areas of need. I wouldn't put TE as a high priority. Plus he has to sit out a year. Looking at his stats, it is nothing that stands out as an upgrade to what we currently have on roster. The only other teams after him were Iowa and K-state. (It is nice to beat out Iowa however) Unless Frost has other plan for him.

Even though we have the numbers a TE, doesn't mean there isn't room to improve positionally at TE.

He's not eligible this year? There needs to be some consistency with how the NCAA grants eligibility. Justin Fields plays an entire season at Georgia and then when it becomes apparent that he will have to wait another season (or two) to get the starting job, he transfers and is granted immediate eligibility at Ohio State.

If we want free agency in college football that's fine, but it should apply to all players.

QB from UGA .... eligible

TEs from UGA and Rutgers .... year off at Illinois and Nebraska, respectively.

Signed,

NCAA

this cannot be overstated. Rutgers threw for less than 1,600 yards the ENTIRE SEASON.

that's 4 games for our boys.

You can't bring rational thought to the free board. We have far too many mindless fans over here who lack the capability to admit their points are absurd.

Let's address some of the stupidity in this thread:

1. "Frost's offense doesn't really emphasize a tight end." Jordan Akins, now with the Houston Texans, begs to differ. He caught almost 60 passes in 2017 at UCF. In this scheme, they create a ton of exotic looks for the tight end.

2. Vokolek is actually very athletic, and that position needs more. Plus, they can flex him out on the perimeter more. He is a more legit vertical threat than Allen or Rafdal with a longer frame than Stoll. Legrone still needs another year of conditioning.

3. You need depth at skill positions for special teams. Vokolek provides with a Big Ten body who can run. Hence the term "roster upgrade."

4. Someone suggested Noa was brought in for "depth." That's laughable. He's a replacement for Stan Morgan period. He is an impact transfer and allows Andre Hunt some time to develop further without becoming a full time starter. Warner backs up Spielman. Wandale and Miles Jones will battle for the Duck R.

5. It is comical how anyone would judge the guy for his statistical production at RU considering their offense was a dumpster fire. They have been unable up muster the forward pass for a few years. Nebraska wad even better with Joe Dailey in 2004, and that team's passing game was dreadful. His numbers were pretty good considering their offense was clusterfvck.

Lastly, Vokolek is a Husker fan. The kid wanted to play for Nebraska his whole life. This wasn't a charity pick up. Athletically, he's skilled enough to play here. When you add that component to his desire, he is easily a valuable pick up.

another weapon for Adrian and Coach Frost!
Our Iowa buddies on their board are claiming Iowa and K-state "withdrew" their offers weeks ago. So his only option was here or Missouri st. Of course they only started saying that after he chose Nebraska. Up to yesterday they were all excited and confident about him going to Iowa.

Actually, one of the Iowa rivals admins was reporting that before hand in some threads about what was taking him so long. That’s not to say Iowa didn’t want him or didn’t think he was worth the effort, they just got tired of waiting and moved on.

Yes, that is more of what I heard. Claiming they no longer wanted him and getting tired of waiting for his decision are 2 different things.
