That might be the dumbest way I have ever seen a team lose a game.
All they had to do was have either the qb or the punter run to back of end zone and take a safety. Literally all they had to do.
So you're saying that the QB waited until there were 7 seconds on the clock so fix a game? He better be glad his own team didn't recover the fumble or those gamblers would have been looking for him.I have never been sold on the fix games and gambling theories but that play sure fits the mode of some hanky panky.
Pretty much, what insanity. That might be the dumbest way I have ever seen a team lose a game.
I made the comment in the game thread…. That was a true Kentucky football kind of play from back in the day. It’s games like that that get a coach fired. That might be the dumbest way I have ever seen a team lose a game.

Need to watch doing that. That being said, there are lots of things he shoulda coulda woulda done. Even holding it for a couple seconds and then throwing a ball way out of bounds would have burned 6 seconds.
I'm going to try to argue the other side of this one (it's not easy).
QB knew he had to run off 6 seconds. One-one thousand, Two-one thousand........ That feels like an eternity when you KNOW that Vandy gets the ball with another shot if you fail to run it off. If he had run out the back of the end zone, or just fell on the ball, there could have still been time on the clock.

And as others have said- just keep two hands on the ball. Sheesh what a bonehead play.
I swear, it’s the only logical thing. The ability for all these players to bet on themselves and props now so easily is crazy. Some of you have got a lot to learn about fixing games.
I would have ran in circles before I did what he did. I would have chucked that MF 19 rows deep into the sideline.I'm going to try to argue the other side of this one (it's not easy).

So what. They would have still been ahead after the safety with 1-2 seconds left. The ensuing kick to Vandy would have run out the clock (unless they ran it back for a TD).I'm going to try to argue the other side of this one (it's not easy).

If you are going to fix a game as a QB, you throw behind your receiver on an out route that gets returned for a TD in the middle of the 2nd quarter. Short arm a key 3rd down pass. Hand the ball off to your running back wrong so they fumble. You don't hope the game is close with 6 seconds left and do that.I swear, it’s the only logical thing. The ability for all these players to bet on themselves and props now so easily is crazy.
No, it’s not “logical” that a fix would happen in such a blatantly conspicuous way on the final play of the game. Fixers know better than to make it that obvious. When fixing happens it’s usually done in subtle ways that are hard for fans to detect.I swear, it’s the only logical thing. I agree that generally that is true, but come on now, all he had to do was run out of the back of the end zone. I just don’t see this happening in a normal circumstance. It makes no sense. No, it’s not at all “logical” that a fix would happen in such a blatantly conspicuous way on the final play of the game. Fixers know better than to make it that obvious. I remember Hedake Smith describing how he did this in that documentary on the 90s ASU point shaving scandal. Whenever ASU got too big of a lead, he’d do little things hard to detect …like step out of of position on defense, delay his passes for a split second so the defender had time to catch up, pass to guys in spots where he knows they’ll miss, etc. …until the lead fell back within the point spread.
And afterward ASU fans had no clue that their star point guard had been shaving points the whole game. It might even look like he played well (he’d still get his points), and ASU often still won those games (but not by the spread).
Maybe he was live betting it?If you are going to fix a game as a QB, you throw behind your receiver on an out route that gets returned for a TD in the middle of the 2nd quarter. Which honestly I can't refute that. But that's what it would take. That's a hard deal to pull off in real time.Maybe he was live betting it?![]()
He coulda done a lot of things...but fumbling to the other team in the end zone, ain't one of them. Literally, he coulda done ANYTHING else and they almost certainly win..and cover the spread. This ain't peewee league. If ya don't understand the assignment, say so. He had one freaking job....DON'T FUMBLE THE BALL! Throw it, run out of the end zone, fall down, and yeah, run around with both hands on the ball was another option but it was way down the list of smart ones. Bottom line, if the coach told him to kill time in the end zone, it's on him for telling him that without maybe..just maybe...mentioning...DON'T FUMBLE THE F'N BALL! There's just so much wrong with how that transpired that it's hard to simply blame it on stupidity. Too many things had to happen..or not happen, to make that crap happen! If it was all on the QB for being the absolute dumbest qb on the planet...I hope the team gang beat his *** for it after the game. Know the assignment! This ain't peewee league! These guys are very literally professional football players and the QB is often one of the smartest guys on the team. Come on!
