Do people expect a top 5 draft pick to transfer here? I don’t understand the hate for some of the names thrown out there as who it could be.

Never satisfied. If it isn’t AD we don’t want him. Don’t want recruits, transfers or anyone outside the state of KY. We only want players that can shoot from half court and they will redshirt so they canbe here for 10 years. Dont need any coaches unless it’s coach O. Also no checkerboard jersey and no sponsorship on the court. WE DONT WANT ANYTHING unless we are bringing back the 90s.

This board in a nutshell.

Not counting basketball the 90's were pretty freaking epic though. I don't know what the 2020s are, but they sure as hell aren't fun so far.

I'm laughing out loud at all you hypocrites who have spent the last six months crying about Kentucky having no shooters and how Cal only recruits "athletes" not "basketball players."

And at the first suggestion that Kentucky might be adding as a bench player a kid who shot 47.4 percent from 3, in a major conference, you knee-jerk whine in the other direction: "He's not athletic! Who will he guard?!"
...and moaning and groaning because of the lack of in-state players.

I know you're kidding but I think most of us wanted Allen to play more because we didn't think he got a fair shake, and that he could help. Not necessarily that he is from Kentucky. Sure that's part of it. Most of us want to win no matter where a kid is from. Frederick doesn't wow anyone, now. But he's still young.

I like Fredrick as a player but one thing that is not a fluke, he's been injured at Iowa every year. Leg/foot injuries. If you are willing to take risk it doesn't happen again, that's a gamble. Seeing some of the names available out there who haven't had those issues.....knowing others will also enter the portal, I'd rather they hold off for now.

Just fear it's like Bryce Aiken--possibly the most hyped of all Ivy League transfers and always hurt and guess what happened--injured again. Injuries are part of a history and when you have a choice of how you go about building your roster, it has to be considered when evaluating options.

I mean for real. The possibility of a 40 something percent 3 point sophomore transfer and nobody is happy. We want shooters and not pro prospects but not that one. We want Players from in state but not the ones we have/ had, there were more. We want to win to have multi year guys but not Askew no time to develop.

Excellent point on the injuries. I think Cal may be wise to wait and see who else enters the portal. This team needs both guard spots shored up in the worst way possible.

You've had some opinions I haven't agreed with much this year. But you're absolutely correct on this one. Us fans can't have it both ways.

It's nothing against him as a player--I think he's a very good player and honestly he was the #1 key to Iowa's success. They were a better team last year due to he/Wieskamp playing on wings and Bohannon sitting out. He was key to their team this year too--when he was out and he was playing with Plantar Facia injury the last Month or so--they couldn't beat anyone good because they needed his scoring. He was Iowa's best defensive player when healthy too-he actually would stay in front of guys and if you had shot blocking/teammates at UK like he would, he'd be fine.

Injuries happen but when they always happen, then it's concerning.

Relying on a bunch of transfers to fill gaps, this recipe doesn't taste good
February board darling Chris Beard had McClung and Santos-Silva to keep them competitive despite the early flame out in the tourney

I would imagine for the most part we have very similar wants for UK. Sometimes I get too passionate and disagree with people too much. I want multi year guys. It has to happen. I also want Cal to stay the coach if he can do that. I want Ky players if they fit the skill and can contribute but it’s not a necessity.

Soooo it’s either a top 5 draft pick, or this Fredrick kid?

There's nothing in between?

We have to choose between a top of the line 2022 Mercedes, or a 1982 Chevy Chevette?

Can I just get the cool looking lifted Jeep TJ over there in the corner with the 35" tires and the 2020 Ruby Red F350 with the nice chrome wheels?

This is like the "wow, you don't like Cal, go cheer for Tubby" comments, you know, because there are no other options.

I guess you have to understand how college basketball works. Especially at UK under Calipari.

Remember that kid Dontaie Allen that rode the bench all season in 20/21? Yeah, Cal said he couldn't play, because he couldn't guard anyone. Fredrick is less athletic than DA is.

It’s not that we don’t like the kid, it's that we know he won’t play here. You have to be able to shoot AND defend.

I didn’t think I would need to explain this, but, here we are.

I've noticed that Fredrick does not seem to move real fluidly - and I'm not talking about speed. He can still play obviously, and he's effective for Iowa as a role player, but now that I'm finding out about these injury issues I'm wondering if some of his mobility has been sapped?

Well there are so many guys that have hit the portal I'm sure there is research that goes into every guy. The Davidson guy sounds promising as well as maybe the IU transfer with bruisers connection.

Apparently it was a foot issue this year-plantar fasciitis which I've never had personally but have heard is brutal and can't imagine attempting to play basketball with that type of injury. Last year it was knee I believe, could be wrong but it was "leg" and he was playing fantastic. Felt he was their most important piece and personally I liked Iowa's team better when it as Wieskamp and CJ on wings with Toussaint at the PG. Bohannon's return really hurt their progress for the '21 team due to his inability to do anything positive but shoot and this team didn't need that. Fredrick is their best individual defensive player, he's got a nice in between game too-will attack and scores in paint and really only surprising thing when I watched and maybe it was due to not following them was he seemed to miss FT's more than a guy who shoots like him should.

Seeing him last month-he had no lift and couldn't finish in paint and was just off. He shouldn't have even played the last 2 weeks hearing what was going on and seeing how ineffective he was--but that's an Iowa problem-I mean McCaffery came out and said he was playing his son at guard with torn labrums in each hip--who does that? What does that tell guys on their bench who contributed? That 2 injured guys are better? Then again, I'd never have imagined Connor McCaffery starting but nepotism has its advantages. lol

Allen played a decent amount. He also will be a great sophomore. This is also the last time I will ever reply to you. I don’t like having every single post I have quoted by you. Just a little weird. Have a good day.

Fredericks' appearance was shocking to me when I first saw him at Iowa - he looked absolutely nothing like the kid I saw in high school. I mean, looked like a totally different person. He clearly had hit the weights, and had bulked up in a - no other way to say it - odd way. Very odd body shape, I thought. Too bulky. Apparently didn't hurt his game or shot too much, but I wonder if the added weight put some undue stress on his lower bones/joints/extremities.....

The 96 team had Anderson and Pope.

The 98 team had Evans.

The 78 team had Macy.

There's nothing wrong with transfers.

Just as long as they're not expected to be the messiah.

There needs to be a perpetual nucleus in place and a transfer (at least traditionally speaking)
should be looked upon as the enhancer or the missing piece to the puzzle.

You sure have a lot of info on Iowa and the C.J.'s role with them. I have watched quite a few of their games this season, mainly I guess because I was born in Iowa approximately 90 minutes or so from Iowa City. I moved to Kentucky at 12 years of age and fell in love with the UK Team and Coach Rupp. But back to C.J. I was impressed with how quick he gets his shot off and can't figure his low free throw percentage. I thought he did play pretty decent defense and I believe that is who M.J. is hinting about transferring to UK. If it happens I think he will be a great addition and I hope we play Iowa in next years Tournament and we put it on them!

Nah either top 5 pick or Freddy boy next year. Guess we stuck with Freddy boy.

This is like “wow you argue with every single poster that’s ever made an acct.“

if you cant tell I didn’t have a lil sarcasm in my post then I’m sorry. Point of the post is we are never satisfied. We as in UK fanbase.

Appreciate that take because I wasn't aware of him prior to seeing him at Iowa and he did RS as well--so he's a guy who would be a Sr age wise correct? Iowa has some weird stuff going on with injuries--Bohannon and McCaffery's oldest son will have combined for 4 hip surgeries, you had Garza with the stomach mass he needed removed prior to JR year, Fredrick's injuries, and thing is they don't look like they lift much compared to other programs. Obviously that isn't the case as you stated with CJ, but looking at Garza as a SR--fine offensive player no doubt, but he looks like a FR in the upper body compared to guys who have been around in other programs. Obviously skill is far more important, but would think he'd be more defined.

Can't wait for CBB fans to freak out when he's about 30 lbs lighter and redistributes his weight trying to make it in NBA.

Know some people in their athletic department and coaching at a good HS program we interact with them when they recruit our HS players. So tend to keep an eye on them and most of Big 10 but also just love CBB and follow most Power Conference programs since I was a kid.

I'm not sure if this roster will be set as soon as calipari hinted, I feel the portal will be ever changing on a weekly basis. Do you feel the same way?

Yes and it would be silly to rush to get someone if better fits/players become available. I think the Portal is going to be so out of control that it'll be changed within 2 yrs. I think it'll surpass the expectations of those who saw it as a positive in terms of sheer numbers and it's effect on HS recruiting......well to me that is going to be fascinating.

CJ Fredrick, now on Iowa’s team, has been long rumored to be coming back home. Would be a nice shooter off the bench but he’s not the answer.
I am not overly-impressed with him.
I agree, he comes off the bench, if he plays.
