I was in Grand Valley this morning. I didn’t hear anything this morning, hunting turkeys while it is snowing is not much fun.I'm fairly close to tidioute actually. Well, like 30 min I'd say

I heard quit a few gobble off the roost but couldn't pull them to me. I used to never like turkey hunting in the snow then I lived in montana for about 5 years and whacked a few Merriam's in snowy weather. Only thing I know for sure is I can't get **** if I'm sitting at home.I was in Grand Valley this morning. I didn’t hear anything this morning, hunting turkeys while it is snowing is not much fun.
I believe Sherlock Holmes always used a deduction cooktop.Induction cooktops give you more ways to cook than deduction cooktops, that’s for sure!
I went to HS in Tidioute. The definition of a blink and you’ll miss it kind of placeI'm fairly close to tidioute actually. Well, like 30 min I'd say
Did you stop at Double D’s for lunch?I was in Grand Valley this morning. I didn’t hear anything this morning, hunting turkeys while it is snowing is not much fun.
We went to Dutch Treat for breakfast. Anymore I go to Frosty Jacks for lunch.Did you stop at Double D’s for lunch?
Dutch Treat is usually pretty good. Or at least since the new owner took over anyway. I used to do hay for a farm up on Mickle Hill in Garland and we’d all stop at Frosty Jacks on the way home to grab ice cream and cool off after throwing bales all afternoon. We went to Dutch Treat for breakfast. Anymore I go to Frosty Jacks for lunch.
Tidioute charter ya? Or did you end up at West Forrest or whatnot? I go to tidioute for work once in a while. Like driving down to the west hickory "sports bar" or whatever its called for lunch. Not many options hahaI went to HS in Tidioute. The definition of a blink and you’ll miss it kind of place
Probably henned up.I heard quit a few gobble off the roost but couldn't pull them to me. I used to never like turkey hunting in the snow then I lived in montana for about 5 years and whacked a few Merriam's in snowy weather. Only thing I know for sure is I can't get **** if I'm sitting at home.
Depends on a lot of things. I was on a piece of property bordering another and I can hunt both but the old farmer who owns the one the birds were on likes to go out opening day behind his farm and that's where they were. He doesn't go out much more than that so I'm good next time. Didn't want to bugger his morning up and early in the year I'm not overly aggressive. I'll usually try to call them off the roost, make a fly down cackle, beat some old wings on the ground and scratch around around a bit like I'm eating something tasty. But, if they go elsewhere initially I usually try to reposition where I think they're gonna head after splitting up from the hens. These PA birds are tricky compared to elsewhere. Nebraska,Montana and Tennessee was so much easier due lesser pressure I'd assume.Probably henned up.
Do you call to them, then move towards and call again? They're expecting you to meet them, no?
Yep. Graduated from a class of 15 kids lol. My science teacher would take us down to the firehall to watch bears get checked in and aged in the fall. We used to stop and eat at the Landmark Hotel from time to time before it shut down. They had great burgers. Buccardo’s had great pizza balls back then too. I haven’t been in there to eat since HS thoughTidioute charter ya? Or did you end up at West Forrest or whatnot? I go to tidioute for work once in a while. Last year I killed one on opening morning and had forgot to buy a 2nd tag so it sorta stunk not having a bird to chase after the first 20 minutes of the season ha
Also, in PA I'm definitely more skittish of moving to birds because of how many people are in the woods and I just don't trust people. I've called a good bit of hunters to me and it's always annoyed me.
Buccardos is still goodYep. Graduated from a class of 15 kids lol. My science teacher would take us down to the firehall to watch bears get checked in and aged in the fall. I don't get too close to the roost, I try to know where they're gonna fly down to based off prior knowledge, scouting and just good ole geography. When I sit and try to hunt birds I know are roosted I don't move at all until I've shot one or know they've moved on enough I'm not gonna spook them. I just let them do what they were gonna do and reposition for the next good chance, when the break away from the hens.I totally understand.
If you had your way and the woods to yourself, how close to the roost would you creep before pink light, and might you close some of the distance after your initial fly down cackle?
Do you locate them the evening before after they have flown up?
I went to school with a Buccardo and I remember him making a red bench in shop class for the restaurant, but that was years ago so I doubt it’s still there. Nonetheless, it’s a cool little town. When American Pickers went to the Hotel Tidioute years back it was enormous news. Did you ever take your kids to the fishing tournament? It was always so cool to see the tank they set up with the fish people caughtBuccardos is still good
I went with my Grandfather as a kid. I intend on taking mine someday in the future, they're all still younglings with the oldest 6 now.I went to school with a Buccardo and I remember him making a red bench in shop class for the restaurant, but that was years ago so I doubt it’s still there. A little hint, if you know where they roost watch where they land when coming down. Position near that spot the next morning.I heard quit a few gobble off the roost but couldn't pull them to me. Oh absolutely. I explained in another that they were roosted behind the landowners farm and he was out as well and is a nice old guy. I didn't Wana encroach, he only ever goes opening day. I'll be back during the week hahaA little hint, if you know where they roost watch where they land when coming down. Position near that spot the next morning.
Watch where they are when they go to roost(fly up). Position accordingly. Forget the calls, an old tom will know the sound seems off and he'll spot you.
Don't sell yourself short. I'm sure if you apply yourself you'll be able to get a deuce in the night.I heard quit a few gobble off the roost but couldn't pull them to me. Just installed a Kitchen Aid with a downdraft (replacing a standard electric.) What a difference. So glad I switched. Once you learn how well your cookware works with the induction it is a breeze.Okay...I'll start. Anybody have any experience with induction cooktops?
The only health concerns I read about with induction was possible interference with pacemakers. The underwire bra thing could definitely be a benefit though!I haven’t looked into it, but, in regard to induction cooktops, I remember hearing that there were concerns regarding whether strong magnetic waves are bad for your health. In fact, I had ordered an induction cooktop for a rental house, but my tenant, a PhD, expressed worries about magnetic waves, and so I canceled my order and bought a radiant stove top instead.
Which reminds me that in college, a female friend worked at the school’s magnet lab, and the equipment was magnetically pulling on her underwire bra. She decided to wear non-underwire bras to work afterward. It was never conclusively proved whether @lionlover was secretly operating the equipment to pull people’s bras.![]()

I never thought I would appreciate this kind of topic, but I do! I have been pondering buying one. Your input is great.Yes. I bought one portable burner to try. I used full range tops before in AirBnBs. Use it as auxiliary at home and intend to use camping with electricity.
Probably would get one in a new construction. Obviously, you have to use certain pans.
They allow a much finer temperature control. They are easily cleaned. They seem safer for children.
Have to match AC requirements to your use. Most full range tops are dedicated 220V. A stand alone burner can be that or 120V.
didn't live in Tidioute, but my dad was a the principal for quite a few years there .. thinking 80s/90s.I went to HS in Tidioute. The definition of a blink and you’ll miss it kind of place
Odds are that it probably hasn’t changed much since then. I think the building is somewhere around 110 years old nowdidn't live in Tidioute, but my dad was a the principal for quite a few years there .. thinking 80s/90s.
Never heard of Tidioute until today and never been close to it. Sure looks like it is in the middle of nowhere , not meant in anyway as a slight.Odds are that it probably hasn’t changed much since then. I think the building is somewhere around 110 years old now
It actually is in the middle of nowhere. It’s an old oil town on the Allegheny that’s literally about 2 miles wide. I think there’s maybe one traffic light in the whole townNever heard of Tidioute until today and never been close to it. Got a great spot to overlook it and the valley as well just up out of town.It actually is in the middle of nowhere. It’s an old oil town on the Allegheny that’s literally about 2 miles wide. I think there’s maybe one traffic light in the whole town
Hearts content. Very apt nameGot a great spot to overlook it and the valley as well just up out of town.

I couldn't see my nearest neighbor. Lots of deer, bear, turkey fox, a few bobcats in my back yard regularly. Pretty much lived on venison. Two deer minimum every year, one with rifle, one or two with a cross bow. Could have gotten them out the back window but didn't. Liked hunting in the woods. Never fell from my 4 ft by 6 ft. Tree stand! No traffic lights.
Doesn’t shock me a bit. I remember when I was in HS there was 2 or 3 instances of us being told to stay inside the school because there was a bear spotted in town. I nearly hit more than one turkey and deer on Ross Hill Rd when I was learning how to drive too lolI couldn't see my nearest neighbor. I drive to tidioute for work every so often and go on tidioute-enterprise road and there's a spot I see turkey non stop. Haven't gotten out hunting around there just yet.Doesn’t shock me a bit. According to Manfred Mann, it was the idea of drummer Chris Slade to use the chords of "Chopsticks" (the tune had at that point already been integrated into the arrangement) as a transition between song parts. The "deuce"/"douche" confusion stems from technical problems[14] (which can be confirmed by comparing to live recordings).Revved up like "DEUCE" in the middle of the night . . . . . . it's a car engine. You must not be old enough
Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night
— Manfred Mann, Record Collector interview (August 2006)[15]I don't think Springsteen liked our Blinded by the Light, 'cos we sang 'wrapped up like a douche', and it wasn't written like that and I screwed it up completely. It sounded like 'douche' instead of 'deuce', 'cos of the technical process—a faulty azimuth due to tape-head angles, and it meant we couldn't remix it.
Warners in America said, 'You've got to change 'douche', 'cos the Southern Bible belt radio stations think it's about a vaginal douche, and they have problems with body parts down there.' We tried to change it to 'deuce' but then the rest of the track sounded horrible, so we had to leave it. We just said, 'If it's not a hit, it's not.'
But in the end, it was No.1 in America, and so many people came up to us after and said, 'You know why it made No. 1?... Everyone was talking about whether it was deuce or douche.' Apparently Springsteen thought we'd done it deliberately, which we hadn't, so if I ever saw him I'd avoid him and cringe away like a frightened little boy.
I’ve heard there’s decent turkey hunting out that way. If you’ve ever been on Ross Hill after it turns Morrison Hill Rd, there’s a weather station (or at least I think that’s what it is. We always joked that it looks like space ship). Just down from that is a farm where deer and turkeys used to cross like crazy. I haven’t been up that way in years because my wife gets car sick super easily so I don’t know if they’re still up there like they used to beI drive to tidioute for work every so often and go on tidioute-enterprise road and there's a spot I see turkey non stop. Definitely not great roads if you get car sick. I always say I wish they could close the road off and I could have Subaru STI and just go nuts even if I'd probably wrap it around a treeI’ve heard there’s decent turkey hunting out that way.
