I have two co-ed softball games late this afternoon so, I get to watch the Bengals lose to Miami (reverse jinx). Although, I might not play as I strained a quad in my left leg 2 days before last Sundays games and only played our first game before deciding not to play the second one. Leg muscle is still a little sore so it will be a game time decision. I asked them to get another pitcher for this weekend and if they did, I will sit these games out as well.

Back up to the low 90's for the next few days too.

Would ya listen to this guy........................ Holding out for more?????????? What?????? Uh, er, mon_ _.......... Okay, hope you get to feeling better soon.... Need a team mate to whump that arse... But, uh, he be a fool if he tried.....

Edits:

MAN I am glad I live far away! (I'd probably be already more disabled than I am if lucky to be still breathing as well just egging you on... ;) )

OT:

Hello All,

Got back from church a few minutes ago. We searched a lot of churches when we moved to this area of Virginia. Started attending this church before covid and I think it was the last or next to last Sunday for a pastor that had been there something like 30 years. Had a guy from Louisiana (Brad) for over a couple years and now have had this Pastor Josh for over a couple years. He is well into God's word versus appeasing the masses and I am thankful... (Not judging at all but calling it as I see it. A lot of churches in this area do appease the masses to, it seems, keep the dough flowing.)

I never have been a big church kind of guy but this three service church is about the largest around. The congregation should be very thankful.....

When we started at this church we had about an eight mile drive. Now it is a 1500 feet commute nearly straight down the road. Just worked that way but I AM thankful....

Morning D-Legionnaires!

68° this morning with a high expected around 90°. Still rather hot. Suppose to start getting cooler on Thursday with a possibility of some rain (still need more).

We won both games late yesterday afternoon (5:30 and 6:30pm) and they could not find another pitcher so, I played. Basically, jogged to first when I hit. Did reinjure leg slightly when I took off for second after a line drive to right field went to the fence, but not so bad I could not go. This was one of those times I wished I had a bad hitting night, so I would not have to run (not really, I hate those games). 6 for 6 over all for the evening.

Enjoy the extra day off folks, have a peaceful and restful day, and God Bless.

Good morning folks. Happy What Used to Be Columbus Day. Just another working Monday for me.

Beautiful day in the east. That figures, after a weekend when it poured constantly. Maybe I can slip out at lunch and enjoy a long walk.

Not much else going on. Bengals looked very ordinary hanging on the beat the woeful Dolphins. At least the Used to Be Redskins blew a certain win with ridiculous clock management. I used to root for them back in teh John Riggins day, but their fan base eventually turned my off, and their previous owner, Dan Snyder, was the final affront. I want them to lose every game now.

Hope you folks have a good day.

Hello All,

A late night, a slow start of the morning. On my second cup of coffee.... Light today hopefully.

MdW, the feds be coasting on this "off-day"... Tried calling the VA just to check but their phones are off.

Still waiting on the reigning-in but I will stop...

Still getting My Darling adjusted to her CPAP machine. Knew it would be a process but she is using it well, just getting the mask issues and other kinks worked out.

I do hope all of you are enjoying your day....

Can't get much better than 6-6. I swung at to many bad pitches to 6-6. it felt to good to knock the crap out of the ball and I didn't want to wait on one. I liked Stan Musials answer on his theory of hitting, "I look for a baseball and then I knock the **** out of it."

I have had plenty of bad hitting days this year. Been in a slump of sorts until one of our guys finally approached (the others did not want to tell the old guy how to play/hit) and said that he saw a different stance than what I had been doing before and it looked as if I needed to back away from the plate a little and move forward. I did and started ripping the ball. Sometimes you (generalizing) cannot see your mistakes when you get comfortable in them. I should have realized it sooner but... I have long arms so, I was not getting the meat of the bat on the ball lately.

Good morning folks. Cool and clear in the east. A beautiful day. I took a long walk this morning out under the stars. Really lovely. It was the kind of morning you could feel gratitude just for being alive, however old and broken down and past the days of living great adventures.

In at my DC office now. Dealing with loads of nonsense. But maybe I can steal away at lunch to tour Ford's Theater, or one of the Smithsonian Museums nearby, or check out the National Archives, where I worked almost 50 years ago (48, my first job in DC, and just saying that number seems incredible) and now work just a few blocks from, but haven't actually visited in years.

I hope whatever the day has in store for you all, it's a good one.

Hello All,

Been at it early but not overwhelmed "at it"...

Took My Darling to the Quantico Marine Base Commissary and we hit it on some Chuckeye steaks. Got a good haul and some other stuff. I even got a case of Yuengling at the class 6. (Package store). Had points saved on my Star Card but you can't use them at the Comissary ....where.. I accumulated them so, I got a 24 pack of Yuengling Lager Long neck bottles for $3.99 today. Maybe I can drink one or two today. I have not had a beer or anything alchoholic in a couple months...

Doing some cleaning in my and the BB's office. I am thankful........................

I DO hope all enjoy this day the Lord has made.... AND, be glad in it....

Good day/week today Gents. Off work for the week and been busy doing some house cleaning as far just getting rid of "stuff" that hasn't been seen/messed with in years. We all need to do that sometimes.

Found some things in the closet that I just can't get rid of just need to find another place for it. I found a box of some of my PawPaws old knives, letter openers, fountain pens, and a small box of old wheat pennies. Yeah, those ain't going anywhere.

Are there any turkey hunters on here? I found a Jim Worley homemade turkey call that my Wife was going to get rid of that was her Dad's but I kept it as she wanted to toss it. My FIL is a well known nut grower here in Kentucky and he has met people from all walks of life, particularly when it comes to the outdoors. I don't hunt and have no idea who Jim Worley is. I'd guess my FIL met him and he made him a 1 of 1 wood box turkey call. I just couldn't get rid of that! If any of you fine folks know who this gentleman is and can maybe pass some info down that would be great.

Taking the Mrs. to the Bardstown Dinner Train tomorrow and I'm looking forward to it but there's storms in the forecast. I've never been on a train, but I think it would be cool for a rainy train ride in the Fall.

Tried my luck at fishing at my normally productive spot on Taylorsville yesterday and had zero luck outside of an almost hand sized gill. Was shooting for a few crappie. I tried all kinds of different colored grubs and crapped out. I'm usually good for a few 10+ inchers there. If they weren't biting it means they weren't there. Possibly felt the warmer weather approaching and backed off a bit.

Have a great week fellas!!!

There is a Dwayne Worley who is a pretty big name in the turkey call business, but I've never heard of Jim Worley. It's been over 10 years since I was heavily involved in the NWTF (National Wild Turkey Federation).

Take the train ride if you can. Cool stuff, I road the VRE (Virginia Railway Express) from Lorton and then from Woodbridge Virginia up into DC every work day for pushing seven years. I never got tired of that ride. I did tire of some of the people but that took time as you'd run into them every day.... Seems it was about a 23 or 24 mile ride... Just never did tire of that ride though it took me longer commuting. (Oh but the stress relief...)

I know of one here that takes the DC Metrorail (Quite a different experience.). I took that too a lot but I do/ did enjoy that VRE.

Take the ride... ;)

Man, man, man.... Slowbee's.....

Went to sleep late. Up though and readying to head over to my oldest's house to finish her RO system install. (Today's her birthday but I think she is at work. Since I gave her this for her birthday................................ I guess finishing today is fitting...

Her plan is for us to get out to eat later today.... Yeah...

You all wake up and get back onboard... ;) (Like I didn't miss a whole lot...)

I DO hope your day(s) today are joyous and fullfilling... Take this day and embrace it...

Edit: One thing; My son brought up some stuff after I sent out Happy Birthday in our family chat I had long forgot about. I had thought I messed up so much raising my children and I did BUT, he brings up things I did that at least gives me pause about being a total failure.... We shall see...

"Makes me feel better..." (In my best Jack Elam voice from the Rio Lobo movie...)

Good morning folks. Already been a busy work day for me.

Heard from my son last night. His government fire fighting crew is expecting to be mobilized to come east, Florida or the Carolinas, to take part in clean up after last weekend's tropical storm. He's looking forward to helping some people if he gets that chance.

Otherwise, life creeps in this petty pace, as the man said. Hope it is a good day for all of you.

HA,

One part sent for the drain saddle was different then ordered... The drain saddle placement took me thirty minutes to drill a quarter inch hole in a plastic pipe due to the placement of other sink and dishwasher items and hoses.

Had to put tape over the hole so my daughter could use her sink. Luckily found the part. Is supposed to be here in two to four days. Another 30 or so minutes work once that part arrives…

Hope all get good rest in what’s left of your night(s).

For anyone here that just might be collecting SS, the 2027 COLA is +3.6%.
I wish my state retirement had a COLA like that. Heck, I wish it was anything greater than 0%.
*****************

I just turned 62 last month....any of you all have thoughts on when to start collecting? I have enough saved to make it til 70 if need be. My wife gets some assistance to help pay for insurance so I won't be taking it until she hits 65 unless something changes. No kids to give any inheritance to when the time comes.

BB and FB to watch tomorrow and Saturday.....looking forward to it.

Good morning folks. Busy day ahead. The weather has been beautiful in the east. I love this time of year. I wish I could spend my days outside instead of this office.

Storm, I don't think there is a right answer for when to take Social Security. If you can wait until 70, its like getting an 8 percent return on money you have invested every year until then. And then, that larger amount becomes the amount your wife can draw for life if she outlives you.

In my case, I wanted to keep working until 70-plus anyway, I had a much higher salary than my wife so I was going to draw more whenever I started, and she is a lot younger than me. So I waited until 70 to start drawing, she started as soon as she was eligible just to get some money coming into an account she keeps. I'm drawing the max, and if (when) I go before her she can step up to my larger check.

But I'm sure someone can argue just as easily to start drawing as soon as you can, invest some of the money well, and have a good time in your 60s, rather than deferring your check so you can give it to some nursing home when you are too old to enjoy it.

Not much else going on. Glad to see the Dodgers getting routed, but I wish it had happened last year (I enjoyed my Reds being the last NL club to go back-to-back championships.) Hope you all have a great day.

I started drawing SS in 2020 when I was 63. Reason was not because I wanted to, but situation dictated. I had a new supervisor I could not stand coupled with (at that time) the mandatory take the covid shot or be fired. So, I put in for retirement instead. Not regretting it a bit. 401K, military retirement, SS, and civil service retirement plus one other source of income and wife still works has me comfortable. Plus, I don't need much (at this time), health is good (mostly) so, I thank God every day for the blessings he has bestowed upon me.

I can relate. My book keeper ( a Sunday School teacher) was embezzling from me and I failed to watch her close enough. The company was hurting and to stay open and pay employees, I was doing without a check. I kind of felt sorry for her as her daughters husband had got hurt and couldn't work along with other things, so I did not press charges. I don't think she would have stole the money otherwise. I just let her go.

If you have a large 401k and/or IRA, probably good to start taking as soon as you retire to keep income down when you start SS - assuming there's years between retirement & SS start. Waiting till you have to take RMD's + SS drives income & thus taxes up.

Hello,

I started drawing social security three months after I turned 64. (I did that as it coincided with my retirement from federal service.) I have been retired now 1 year and a couple weeks.

Talking about when to start drawing. Keep in mind, the bigger paycheck waiting until full retirement age which I think is 67? Or waiting until 70 is great but take into consideration when you would "break-even" from waiting until you can draw a lot more...

My Dad died at 74, my brother is 75 now. (I am thankful) I hope to live as long as possible. I told My Darling I would like to live one day longer than her...

The break even point of drawing when I started and when I could draw the maximum amount of retirement for me, put me at about 87 years old. (Computing the difference in the paychecks until then.) You seem to be not starving but take into consideration the time when you not drawing and then drawing social security will get you to your break even age. That will give you a better idea of when to start.

Edit: Not sure of your wife but when I started drawing my wife could draw half of my SS. (I still received my total amount but she got about half of what mine was versus a lot less for her SS. (Gave us a total hefty raise.)

Hello All,

Actually doing personal things now and still some loose ends "bidness-wise" but not horrible now.

Leaving to pick up the BB in about 45 minutes. I DO enjoy that booger....

Enjoy the rest of your day(s)

Sir,

When I sold my bug business I had the guy that bought it cheat me out of a lot. (I had sold it partly in a couple areas so I was not completely destroyed but I sure took a severe slapping around. (Wish I had better listened to My Darling back then.) That guy had his own problems to the point I did not pile on either. He made his bed and talking to him you'd think he was a stand-up guy..(His wife was as bad or worse and they claimed christianity anyway....) (I had 11 employee's when I sold my business I started from nothing.)

About five or six years before that, when I got out of the Army I had to have knee surgery about three months later and had complete foot drop for about two and a half years after that surgery. I could not work and would not beg or ask others. I am thankful I still made out okay but I did live in my car for about a year. (I lived in Middlesboro at the time, had plenty of places to park in the hills so no issues.) I am 5'11" and dropped down to 154 pounds but I never begged and do not steal. The one thing I am really thankful for and always will be is that my family has always ate my food. I cannot ask for more...

Morning D-legionnaires!

58° this morning with 25-30mph winds making the wind chill factor in the upper 30's. The monster is outside sprawled out in the yard loving it. Going to have to bundle up here shortly and take her on her walk.

First exhibitionist game tonight... wait... scratch that, exhibition game. Did not want to excite anyone here. Mudda, Fadda kindly disregard this ledda.

Friday too so, get out and get it over with safely and get back home.

God Bless.

Good morning folks.

RIP Cliff Hagan. He was born in the same year as my father and lived not quite as long, with dad passing right after his 95th birthday and Cliff passing two months before his.

Working from home today. Should be a low-stress shift, and then a nice weekend.

My daughter and I have a tradition: We both love Halloween, so in the middle of October we drive up into the Shenandoah Valley where there are a bunch of little towns that go all in decorating and hosting haunted houses and ghost walks (Harper's Ferry, the Ghost of John Brown and his raiders, among many others, Burkittsville, where the Blair Witch Project was set and which does have lots of spooky traditions, Shepardstown, which had its own cable TV series, "The Ghosts of Shepardstown" which dubbed it the 'most haunted town in America,' Sharpsburg, with the ghosts of all those killed at Antietam, and so on. You get the idea.) Anyway, we are doing that on Sunday. Last year, my daughter couldn't go, so my wife decided to go in her place. That's the night a guy slammed us from behind and totaled our Subaru. I hope it's a less jarring experience this year.

You all have a great weekend.
