Good morning folks. Partly cloudy and cool in the east.

Anyone watch that DC Gran Prix yesterday? I was thinking about going down for it but it was a round number anniversary and while my wife would have done it to please me I didn’t want to put her through it. I watched a bit on TV. Where the cars made that hard left past the National Archives is a couple hundred yards due south of my offices.

Finishing up a short run then working from home today. Hope you all have a good one.

Morning D-Legionnaires!

A little cooler today as we are supposed to have temps in the mid 90's today upper 90's tomorrow but back to triple digits starting Saturday. Still no rain since...I can't remember the last day we had some.

Monster walk, light workout, and then grocery shopping. Couch potato in the afternoon.

Hump day for the worker bees. Be safe out there.

Good morning folks. Grinding away at my DC desk job. Weather remains mild in the east. Got out for a long pre-dawn walk and it was very pleasant. Clear skies and bright stars.

Getting worn out with this Mark Mitchell saga. Naturally, hate the forces of evil like the SEC and Sankey and the NCAA trying to ruin Kentucky's party. Would probably feel different if he were trying to get eligible for Kansas or North Carolina. I guess it'll just have to play out.

Otherwise, all is well. It was one of those nice days when randomly I heard from all of my kids -- in Colorado, Kansas City and Norway (vacation) and they were all happy and doing exciting things.

Morning D-Legionnaires!

Possibility of rain this morning. Radar shows it weakening but still possible by the time it hits us around 9am or so. Need it badly.

Crazy game Reds vs Giants yesterday. Reds down 9-4 top of 9th and get awarded 3 walks to load the bases. New pitcher, Suarez hits a grand slam making it 9-8. Still no outs, a base hit followed by another one, and a stolen base has Meyers at third and Mclain at second. Petrino drives one deep for an out scoring Meyers and moving Mclain to third and one out. Stevenson hits a base hit and the Reds take a 10-9 lead and that is how it ended. Why? Giants have a worse record than the Reds. Yes, I am still watching.

Not much else going on so, you folks be careful out there today and God Bless.

Good morning folks. Working from home today, which is like a gift of two aggravation-free hours: One in the morning and one in the evening.

Not much happening here. Life goes on. The Reds did pull off something last done when I was in diapers: Win a game they trailed by six runs heading into the ninth. I almost hate to see them waste it on a putrid season like this.

Any of you Reds fans remember the famous "Hal King Game" of July, 1973? The Reds were like 10 games behind the Dodgers in the standings and trailing in the bottom of the 9th WITH TWO OUTS 3-1 to the Dodgers. The season looked over. Then obscure pinch hitter Hal King hits a game-winning three run homer. Literally the entire season turned around from that moment, and the Reds won the division.

Well, I was at the Hal King game. I was 17 and in peak Reds game mode and went to probably two-thirds of the home games in those days. It was a long time ago, and considering how inept the franchise has become, it seems even longer.

I was reading a Stan Musial article the other day. For non saber metric guys, OPS plus is a combination of on base %, slugging % and factors such as the ball park you play in. In a 16 year period, his by far lowest score was 134 (and he played injured that year). 100 is MLB average. The article used Derek Jeter for comparison. In his entire career, Jeter had one season above Stan's 16 year low.

This made me curious Bernie, so I compared Derek Jeter's OPS-plus for his entire career with that of Vada Pinson -- not for Vada's whole career but for his 11 years in Cincinnati. Jeter: 115. Pinson 119.

I've long maintained that Vada had a good case for the Hall of Fame: A Gold Glove winning center fielder in the National League during the era of the greatest collection of outfield talent in baseball history, including Mays, Clemente, Aaron and Robinson, not to mention guys just a notch below like Billy Williams, made the all star team several times, had nearly 2,800 hits and lots of other impressive stats. For more than a decade Vada had more base hits than anyone not in the Hall (he's been passed by several guys who played in the inflated numbers and inflated muscles era of the 1990s, including lots of steroid cases, and Pete Rose, of course.)

Vada will probably never make it because his career numbers tailed off after his peak, and he retired fairly early instead of grinding it out two more years to reach 3,000...He had just turned 37. There's another factor, of course: He was a small market player overshadowed by four outfielders who make lists of the Ten or Twenty Best of All Time.

Still, I wish he'd caught on as a player-coach and reached the magic number. He was my first ever "favorite player."

The Reds were probably my second favorite team in those days. I followed Pinson pretty close. It also hurt him that he had some of his prime years during the pitching dominated years during the sixties. Those years cost a number of players some key stats. Baseball Reference has a category called Hall of Fame Monitor. The average HOF score is 100. His score is 95. Those pitching dominated years may have cost him the extra points he needed.

98° today with above 100° starting again tomorrow through the rest of next week. Burn bans and water restrictions have been in place for some time now. Only positive is, I won't have to cut the grass for a while.

Monster walk, workout, house cleaning on the list for this morning. Read some scriptures, watch the Reds (Yeah, I know, I am a masochist), and couch potato on tap for the afternoon.

Haven't played ball since the season ended 6th August in Chickasha OK league. Starting to have withdrawals. My team is in a benefit tournament in Norman Ok 12 September to raise money for a young lady getting a kidney transplant. Then, fall season starts 29 September.

You good people try to enjoy your Friday and stay safe out there and prayers for those hurting and in need of healing (yeah, I'm looking at you Austin. well maybe not looking, that would be creepy).

Good morning folks. Sunny and mild in the east. We had a brutal rain last night and it cleared out all the humidity and clouds. Went for a long run this morning. Started feeling some pain and swelling in my right knee but I powered through. That was stupid, because I could barely drag myself back to the house when I finished. Nothing a cocktail of two Advil and two Tylenol won't cure.

Working from home. I can sit on my screened in back porch and glimpse a fox or hawk, so it is pretty pleasant. Hope you all have a good day.
