Seems to me that Bruiser needs gone. Chin maybe just needs to grow up a little.

There’s some turnover every year on staff. There’s one constant. Until that changes, nothing is getting better.

Guys, Calipari (I refuse to call him "Cal") told everyone who would listen exactly what he plans to do, even before the meeting with Barnfart. He plainly said he was doubling down on his "talent over experience" approach. He's not changing a single thing. It's his way or bust. That's the trait of a egomaniac.
Old Morg was right, Calipari is going to do things his way or destroy the program on the way out.

I can't blame the staff it's about Cal. But, what it shows is Cal is not going to get someone better than himself or that has the experience to be a true coach to make change.

What I think should be as concerning is it would seem like this very well could be Cal's last season and thus recruiting will be a mess and when he leaves the program will be in a disaster (if it isn't already).
But after next season the buyout is only what - about 6M less? If UK had a difficult financial decision or hard time getting that together this season (assuming Barnhart did feel that scenario out), then it wouldn't be much easier after next season, would it?

Regardless, when or if Calipari is bought out of his contract at UK, I have no concerns about recruiting. Unless Calipari drastically changes the way he builds his roster, I believe recruiting should improve with the next hire.

no coincidence that Mitch is trying to change the focus on him being the AD of ALL sports at UK, and he holds ALL sports at UK in high standards.

Why? because if Cal gets canned next year, so does Mitch, and Mitch is trying to remind everyone that he isn't solely responsible for just the basketball program

That "when we exit the program we want to leave it on top" statement is going to come back to haunt both of them

So, if true, wouldn’t this be lying to Mitch and direct insubordination since that was pretty much what was talked about according to him?

Or did Mitch try to look big but bend over the desk in that meeting?

We know the answer

Cal after the 1st round NCAA tournament loss next year:

"You know, we tried this playing tough thing. This aint us. We gotta get back to who we are. We want to be fast and finesse teams. There's a standard here."
You know I've been too focused on what we do and haven't done enough game planning/scouting for opponents. Don't blame these kids, blame me.

Wow, we better hope one of these so called coaches goes to some defensive seminars and does some book and video work on how to play defense. I can't believe Cal still has any confidence is ability to coach defense without help he has to be delusional.

We’ve been led to believe it’s the staffs fault, when in all actuality, it’s Calipari’s. His X’s and O’s are awful, so it doesn’t really matter who the assistants are.
Again…we’re letting a 65 year old man learn how to coach on the fly.
“coaching on the fly” is being too nice. it infers possible learning in a sink or swim situation. a) he’s not learning, and if he is, he’s still not changing. b) he’s not swimming, except in a pile of money. it’s agenda driven by stubbornness. it’s worse than not being prepared. it’s purposefully neglecting what works and what doesn’t.

Been saying it. This was nothing more than the annual meeting after the year and no real changes were going to come of it. Mitch & Cal just blew smoke up our asses and hoped the weather would storm. Cal wears the pants in the relationship with Barnfart. Kentucky Basketball as we once knew it is over so long as these two *** wipes remain in power. It created good radio for ratings to get fans to tune in hoping they would catch some kind of insight and only to be duped by those gullible enough to still fall for their tricks.

I have been fascinated by the animated GIF in your sig for a while now and simply must know its origin.
Man, I wish I could remember. It was a scene from a really old b-movie that I found on giphy a long time ago. I think I just searched for the word “bizarre” and it came up 😂 I had a friend tell me what movie it was from but I can’t remember now.

I was going to make an almost identical post. At the risk of being redundant, what gives people the hope that Cal refusing to make changes means he is retiring next year? The buyout will still be enormous and he’s not one to leave money on the table. If anyone has heard anything along those lines though I could use the hope.

I'm not a Calipari lover. I'm not a Calipari hater either and I'll be rooting for him to do well as long as he is our coach. When He's gone, Ill be rooting for our next coach because if they do well that means the team is doing well too and I'm more interested in the team having success than I am about who the coach is. After all, it's about the name on the front of the jersey and not the name of the guy who is our coach.

There was a lot of smoke about how he was more concerned with being out on the town than coaching. I will say In the past two years I've been to three games at Rupp and then went across the street to Tony's for dinner after the game. In two of those games Chin was there dressed to the nines at the bar area very soon after the game.

Very small sample size, having it happen twice when I'm in Lexington basically once a year is probably a sign it happens quite often.

Wasn’t Chin in charge of the defense as well?

Inexcusable to keep him after last years debacle especially if he’s partying more than preparing.

Here’s the thing I’ve come to realize. That Fat Poser isn’t walking away from $9M annually. Mitch isn’t going to fire him. The pres isn’t going to fire either one. So unless Rupp is empty (won’t happen) or donors/NIL dries up…this is just going to be a Boeheim situation. He’s not going anywhere. And he’s not changing. It sucks. I hate it. But it is what it is at this point. Anyone that watched the joint slap and tickle fest can see that.

I think this is an admirable attitude to have. But let me give a scenario example.

Let's say UK had a coach that had 5 future NBA All-Stars on his team. And that coach basically sat them on the bench and never played them. He only played walk-ons.

And then let's say that same coach decided that the team didn't need to practice. That it was too stressful. So they spent practice time in meditation instead.

And let's say that coach really had no interest in basketball. As in, he didn't want to talk about it, do any interviews, show up to any public engagements, or even watch any basketball at all other than UK's games that he's "coaching".

And let's say that coach happens to be the highest paid basketball coach in the country (or one of them).

If all that were the case, would you still be "rooting for him to do well" and care about the team success more than who the coach is? Or would you be critical of the fact they are clearly not doing their job and that team success you want to root for could be so much more if this person actually spent one ounce of effort trying to actually win games?

How can you NOT fire whoever was responsible for defense at least?
In all seriousness, there's a real chance that Chin was simply tryin to "coach" the defensive scheme that Cal wanted. I don't think Cal let's Chin act as a defensive coordinator - I don't think the defensive portions of practice are solely designed and ran by Chin - no way Cal would allow that. But, it seems like for actual in-game coaching, Chin seemed to have primary responsibility amongst the ASSISTANT coaches.

I'd be really, really surprised if Cal gave full autonomy to one of his assistants for defense
