Don't care who starts , as long as they proved the best after practice was completed and season begins.
Just don't want Ash to get locked on who he names starter, just give Sit or Carter some leeway and keep or pull them according to how they handle the job.
If McNulty can't tell if the starter is over his head and needs to be replaced , John probably is the one over his head as a P-5 OC.
McNulty is fine.

If Art is such a lost cause then Rutgers has much bigger problems than who to start this year.

Is the plan?
2019 - start Carter and go 3-9 maybe 4-8? Fire Ash
2020 - start another true freshman or graduate transfer and probably again go 3-9 maybe 4-8?
2021 - finally have a returning starting QB?

Pretty pathetic plan for both the near and far term. Do me a favor and route for another team.
Before you start telling other posters who they should root (not route) for please tell all of us what you saw in Sitkowski that he can be a great QB, leader and a winner. The kid lost his starting job at IMG for a reason. Hasn't earned the starting job at RU.

Ash is fighting for his job. I dont think hes concerned about returning qbs,red shirts. ASH WILL PLAY WHO IS GOING TO GIVE THIS TEAM THE BEST CHANCE TO WIN EACH GAME THIS SEASON.
Exactly. He knows this is his last chance and I don't know if Carter will be good enough to help save his job, but I do know that AS is not.

As for Sit being washed up because of his play last year, might be true.
The kid needed a redshirt year and though he is supposed to be talented , his talent wasn't developed to the point he could lead a bad team to victory or even give hope for the future with his play.
I won't say he can't succeed, but wonder if he learned enough from the experience he gained last season to use the talent he's supposed to have this year.
Hopefully he'll show vast improvement and prove capable of being a good QB, but the pessimistic part of me wonder if the staff that threw him to the wolves last year won't again.

I'll never understand ( probably because I'm not coaching material) why Ash/McNulty didn't redshirt Sit , especially because he lost the starting QB in HS , even though he was considered more talented than the player who took his spot.
This year Snyder should be redshirted, but unless Langan gets his wavier, Cory will be needed as 3 string QB .
Hopefully Cole will still get it if he don't play 4

I like my plan, which likely results in more wins than your plan of sticking with AS. More wins is what I'm after. As a fan who "roots" for Rutgers.
All I am saying is that your plan is not sustainable and dooms the program for the next few years. Why would we "route" for that?

Your approach is doomed for failure and does not provide a pathway to success. Having AS ready to go the next two years will provide the team with a far better chance of achieving success.

Complete fail. I disagree.

Fans need to stop sacrificing the now to hopefully play better in the future. We have had 3 Ash years to build for the future (which is THIS season). Let’s get our big boy pants on and win now. If we build a culture of winning, plenty of players will come to us in the future.

Win now. Early indications look like Carter gives us the best chance of winning this year, so we should play him if his play continues in camp.

Win now.

What was the point in bringing in a grad transfer then? It should be the best man starts just like at any other position on the field. Development doesn't stop if he's not starting. It might even push him to get better for next year.

THIS! And there are another 104 players on this team that want to win now.

Everywhere else QBs can develop in a backup role and through practice. The second best QB sits, practices and develops. The best QB plays and leads the team to wins.

Win now is the strategy. And then recruit well and win more. Win.

I'm not saying who should play or not, besides what I said above that I like that the fact that KK must have saw some potential in Carter which I like.

But if it is Carter why should the future be sacrificed. We just saw last year Alan Bowman come in for an injured Carter (first game) and perform well for TT as a true freshman until his own injury. How about Iowa State and Brock Purdy another true freshman for Campbell who came in and also did well.

This is why I always emphasize system rather than players...a system that is KISS and more plug and play friendly is important especially for a school lower down the totem pole. Why do Mike Leach, KK and others continually crank out qbs that can play okay to very well. Identification is one thing but part of it is the system they implement that makes it more feasible to replace parts as needed without as big a hiccup.

This is college football not the NBA. There is no advantage for tanking. Not playing your best players is just an incredibly stupid idea.

It's a losing strategy by Ash to put all of the eggs in the Sit basket.

Sit should have redshirted last year if Ash wanted to develop him as the QB of the future.

Carter is better right now.
Start him.

It is deflating to the other players if they see an inferior player get the starting nod at such a key position.

Opinion.
But...it’s based on watching high level athletes, playing and following sports my entire life.

Never, have I seen a player performing at the elite level we play at, show no glimpses or promise of future success, and all of a sudden perform.

Name one player you’ve seen at RU that went on to have a fine career, whom you weren’t impressed with some aspect of their game from day one?

Have you seen one play...one!!! out of Melton or Art, where you said to yourself or the person sitting next to you... wow, now I get it?
What I was thinking was, there was a time freshman didn't even play, I'm sure you remember, now here we have is a freshman
playing on one of the worst teams ever, in the big 10 never the less. he had to be a 4 star for some reason, so I'm giving him
a chance.
Also Remember how bad Teel was his first years? But two things, the staff work so hard
with him for years, the other thing Teel's teams were loaded with future NFL players, and future NFL coaches, and coaches that moved up in the college ranks.

I disagree most of Ash's original staff is not here. So I say he is making the right decisions for RU....
Say away my friend. Only took 3 years to wake up. That being said I truly hope that we have a good team effort this year and let the chips fall where they may.

How about announcing that you will play multiple QBs each game and try to go with the hot hand. Spread the opportunity.

Something tells me our offense has trouble executing their assignments as it is. Imagine having to flip the play between a right and left handed qb throughout the game. It would be beyond comical.

Been a Rutgers fan too long now to figure out the QB decision.
And certainly don’t care what the fans think. We would pay to have this site’s most hated player back at QB...
