Im excited to have a 4 man who can shoot. It really helps open up the lane for guys like maxey next year. When pj was making shots from the perimeter out offense was incredible. Hopefully IQ and baker can perfect their jumpers in the off season as well. Sestina will really give us a drive and kick option as well as a pick and pop option. Some of ejs jumpers from 3 looked abismal.

Assuming there are no insane transfers, the front court is locked up for next year.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed on getting back Herro/Hagans and keeping IQ from transferring (I only mention that because it seems realistic that if Herro/Hagans came back to join Maxey, there wouldn't be a lot of minutes left for IQ).
Glad to have him, already starting to think about next year. And especially glad about the quick decision, such a pleasant change from what we're used to.
He is not coming here to be THE option, he is coming here so we have another option. Plus he will bring toughness and leadership. No he will not average 16 and 9, UK is not that type of program. What he will do is come in stretch the floor, get rebounds, and score a few points. If he can bring 8-10 pts and 6 rebounds per, it is something we desperately need.
I do not see it as Cal not getting anyone else or anyone leaving, i see it as he is not getting caught with his dick in his hand and HAVE TO depend on Richards and EJ next year, or another young big body not ready for the college game. Cal is wanting as many bullets in his gun as he can get. Reid Travis proved this way can help, NS is another grown *** man who knows how to play the game. Period.

couldn't understand why we went away from PJ shooting threes in the tournament, thought it opened thing up for our offense, and made it tougher to guard us.
Cal has said he would not take on a grad transfer to sit the bench or just as a practice player. It just seems Cals teams have always played bette with someone blocking shots and this guy is a below the rim kind of player. Not saying he won't help but I wouldn't count on him getting many shots off in the post. Still a nice player though.
This kid will be tremendous for us . He will be better because the guys around him are better than the Bucknell players. We still need another big and it will be Hurt IMO. We need depth on the front line and Hurt would be the final piece. Actually need two more bigs but we shall see.

Adds much needed depth to the front court. I like that he committed quick. We can’t afford to wait on recruits and get burned like we have a few times recently.

Sestina can shoot it, but can he play enough defense to please Cal? I think he brings a much needed shooting forward to the floor. He’s not going to block a lot of shots, but with his wide body and 4-yr experience, he will be able to bang for rebounds.

as I mentioned , this seems like a quality kid, so with the extra scholarships we always have available it would be foolish not to take him in my opinion. Now how long do you think it will take That Rat Faced Bastard at Dook to take a grad transfer and ESPN to say "once again Coach K is changing the game "
Agree. Would love for Hurt to come to UK, but doubt that he would put up numbers that would better than this. Hurt is obviously very talented. His list of schools is the very definition of Blue Bloods. To me this signals, Cal doesn't think Hurt was coming.
I kinda feel the same way but am encouraged by the fact that he can shoot the 3. I don't know if he can handle the rugged SEC on the inside but if he can shoot the 3 like I have seen on tape, he could be a fantastic contributor.
Cal will play him similar to how he played Jorts, with Sestina being more athletic. He'll be a stretch 4 that can shoot, rebound and take up space underneath as well as play the pick and roll.
Cal wants a team that can switch on every screen. He is building a team that can do this.
IMO! If Cal still runs his same offense, with the bigs coming up top and out the wing for screens, for the guards and small forward, then a big guy that hits threes, could be a fantastic blessing. He could wind up often with a small guard switching to him and thus have a very good view for a shot, over a substantially smaller defender, more often than not.

I definitely think that sestina will need to be at the 4 and paired with ej or richards to block shots. If Whitney has a knack for blocking shots you could slide sestina to the 5. Cal seems to like having big lineups even though the game is moving away from that. I think Cal will always have richards or ej on the floor with sestina.
Another positive from this: with the front-court being set, it's one less thing for Cal to worry about. Could McDaniels. Hurt be better players, sure. Maybe likely.. but they won't be the anchor we need in the early going. The nice thing about Travis was Cal didn't have to spend a ton of time with him.
Further, this gives Cal the ability to focus on NEXT years recruiting. Where as K and Self are scrambling to fill big holes, Cal should get a head start on the next two years.

Honestly, I am waiting for all the "journalists" and "experts" (Forde, Thamel, that little Memphis CBS troll whose name escapes me) to say that Cal is ruining college basketball by bringing in these high level grad transfers. Just wait...
They've already started down that road in the last 12 months. They think coaches will poach seniors on other teams when they need a roster spot to fill.
What I love about this type of one and done is our fans will not rage as much when they leave as they have no choice.
EJ came in with more sf skills as a stretch 4 then back to the basket moves as a 5. He is actually much better facing the basket as he isn’t very strong yet.
