Never said you were evil but you are a bit arrogant to already judge what a player can provide versus what a Hall of Fame coach feels that way layer can provide. Tell me.. what did Barrett and Cam really provide Duke versus how people anticipated they would perform on a team?

Barrett performed very well overall. If Zion wasn't in the picture he is likely the NPOY. Not sure that is really the argument you want to go with. Reddish made a mistake going to Duke sitting behind 2 players that essentially play the same position and are currently better at it. Not to mention his shooting didn't really replicate from the HS and all-star circuit. Both are likely top 5 picks and are excellent athletes 5* guys who had great games against some of the best teams in the country.

I'm sorry I am not getting excited for a 5th year player from Bucknell who only averaged double digits or even close to it for 1 year while playing 2 power 5 teams. Hopefully he can come in and prove me wrong, but I think this is just filling out a roster spot because we didn't get other options we wanted far more. Reid was a legit recruit in hs who played at a high level and produced multiple years for Stanford and out played several top bigs over his time there. Not to mention being Pac12 player of the year. My expectations are just much lower for Sestina. Would love to be wrong though.

I know we need bodies and leadership but I hope this isn't a reaction to Cal's thoughts on EJ/Nick leaving and/or UK's chances with Hurt/McDaniels.

Bucknell played just 2 high major teams last season (SOS of 255).

Sestina's stats in those games:

Ohio St - 10 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 0 blocks, 1 TO, 5 fouls
TCU - 14 points, 11 rebounds, 1 assist, 0 blocks, 6 TOs, 2 fouls

Yeah but I am sure he didn't have much help and probably was doubled and forced to get rid of ball alot.

If you say so. He looks like someone who is going to get his shot blocked quite a bit in the paint and be a defensive liability, which doesn't bode well for him getting much pt. He does look to be a threat from 3, so maybe he can fill a Wiltjer type role, which is fine, but IMO, we need a defensive player who can block shots, switch off if needed and get some nice lobs.

This guy has never played in a power 5 conference and had like 2 games against tournament teams this year, where he was good, but not really anything to write home about. Anybody who thinks this kid is Reid Travis like is setting thenselves up for dissapointment. Reid was a 5* or close to it out of HS and dominated the pac12 with big games against good teams and other big time players like Ayton.

If Sestina can give us Reid Travis type rebounding/interior scoring and Derek Willis type shooting from deep (very doable goals looking at his stats), then he'll be an extremely valuable addition to this team. That said, I still hope we can get one of McDaniels or Hurt to go with him and the returning players. I like having depth and multiple options.

I think we are set, barring a transfer, someone unexpected leaving for the draft, or someone too good to pass up committing (McDaniels, Hurt).

We have a solid roster, two deep at every spot:

PG Hagans/Quickley
SG Maxey/Baker
SF Whitney/Allen(assuming he recovers and can play next year)
PF Brooks/Sestina
C Montgomery/Richards

Lots of possible combos. Can go with 3-guards. Can go big with Richards and Montgomery together. Can go with a floor full of shooters (Quickley, Maxey, Whitney, Brooks, and Sestina).

Also, the last few years we have been left scrapping at the end of the recruiting trail and having to take players we never anticpated and that in several cases hasn't delivered what was wanted or expected
We have been shut out by the top 5 guys time and time again. Cal might have been the greatest for a period, but that seems to have cooled off quite a bit. Other schools are getting top players now and the coaching staff is left to make do with what they can. I just question how a guy from Bucknell, who scored double digits 1 out of 3 seasons while his team played a whopping 2 power 5 teams along the way is going to fit here. He appears a bit slow, is not very athletic and players under the rim. That isn't exactly the type of player that does well here under Cal.

Agreed...but I think Nick has shown last year even in limited minutes he is every bit a true rim protector....not so much low post scorer.

But Sestina should be solid rotation PF and allow us to play pick and pop 3pt shots with our guards (something EJ and Nick as well as Brooks probably don't provide on today's roster). So it's just another scorning option we need and solid depth which we need down low. I don't see how any can't argue it only helps UK....you can't go into season with only 2-3 viable interior guys.

Well, I never indicated he couldn't help us, just the fact that we need a low post threat and rim protector. EJ should improve immensely in the off season, Nick has had flashes of decent play, but he has a terrible BB IQ. That's probably why he only played one minute in the last game.
