Today we brought my 5 month old daughter to her first Rutgers Football game, and it brought back memories to when I was a kid watching Schiano take on the Miami Hurricanes

We won a grand total of 3 games in the 2 years prior to Schiano’s return, and we went winless in the Big 10 2 years in a row…. We were losing recruits to Temple ….. Easy to forget just how bad things were when he took over in 2020…. My Rutgers football fandom was really waning until his return.

Progress is never linear like people want it to be but since he’s been back we’ve been trending up. Greg’s had to deal with pathetic leadership above him (Hobbs), severe lack of resources, and is only just finally getting real leadership from above.

UMass was a bad loss. UMass played lights out but no excuse to lose that game. BC is a game we should have won on paper but our QB play was really bad and have to give credit to their QB who made plays. Super easy for recency bias to say “hey we suck fire the coach” but to me it’s a truly weak take.

We need to get better. QB play has been well below where it needs to be, and our defense showed some flashes today but needs to be way more consistent.

I was done with Greg the second I learned he hired his three sons, has one of the most bloated unqualified staffs in college football, and has proven the sport of football has passed him by with the Umassacre. It’s over. He’s cooked. And clearly integrity is an issue based on the conflicts of interest. His sons have/had ZERO experience and are stealing taxpayer money.

you’re better off quitting the boards. I did it was awesome. Check once in a blue moon. You do what best for you. Me? I have been a huge Greg fan. This year has been terrible however and it’s year 7. I think he’s had the time. He has faced challenges but RU has way more resources than either Mass and BC. Can’t lose those and survive outside a miracle finish.

I was pushing for Greg to be hired a few yrs after graduating from RU and Greg was the DC at Miami. His coaching pedigree, former RU GA, from Jersey and his vision of bringing national championships to RU I was all in. The highlight of GS 1.0 was an 11-2 season where RU didn’t win the conference and played in a second rate bowl game in a weakened Big East.

I was all about Greg returning to the program in 2020 to put his “never not working” work ethic to lead RU to respectability within the BIg Boy table of the BIG conference. He was able to do it to a certain point for a moment but has proven he’s not a winning head coach and we now have close to 20 years of data on his head coaching career at RU.

Greg rarely punched above his weight to steal wins against more talented rosters and has proven that he misjudges the feel and pace of games to pull out wins along with recruitment and hiring mistakes. That all being said, I was so excited for Greg and the program going into the UMass game. I was at 30k feet in the air on a plane when I was able to see the score of the the first half and thought it was a misprint: RU 7 - UMass 24.

RU gets totally outplayed by a program with significantly less resources than RU and then loses to a poor BC team. No more silver linings on why RU should keep Greg. He is a losing head football coach. He’s 99-110 in 18 yrs of coaching at Rutgers.

Some of RU’s best memories of modern football are with Greg at the helm but RU success under his leadership can be compared to the tallest smallest person.

Will miss Greg and wanted him to claim responsibility for success at RU but as a fanbase were beyond hero worshipping at this point.

Outside of beating Indiana, he needs to go shortly thereafter. I will always be a RU football fan since I’m an alum with two RU degrees and from NJ but Rutgers and low expectations should no longer be synonymous. Hate to see you go when Greg goes but you and everyone else from Jersey who has checked out or never given RU a chance because RU doesn’t win will come back or join in support if RU starts to win at a high level at some point.

Makes sense! Agree the 2 losses were bad losses. UMass being much worse. BC at least is an ACC team and we were playing with a first time starting QB who just didn’t have it.… that said if we play like we played today the rest of the way I think we’ll turn a lot of opinions around

With all due respect, trending up? Come on. I’m well aware progress isn’t linear but this is ridiculous. It will be sad if you go with all that dedication, but aren’t you an RU fan? Or are you just a Greg fan? Don’t you want us to be better? We have a president and AD who know what the big time is all about. We have to trust them to get us there. We can’t just wallow in mediocrity out of fear. If you or others don’t come it will be unfortunate. But a lot who do come are tired of losing. And the stadium is half empty. You know what will fill it? Winning. Even if that means letting go of the Greg/non RU fans. All the best to you and your family.

I didn't go to RU & I didn't even know where it was even though i grew up in SJ. I loved college football & was a Temple fan. When Greg was hired, I saw his 1rst recruiting class and was amazed & slowly started to get sucked in to root for the home team. If he goes, I go back to Temple ( i didnt go to Temple either)

I found it odd that the writers were starting with the “this has to be the year” slant before the season but, they are right. It’s year 7! In 2.0, we never find a way to win the games that matter. I’m incredibly appreciate of the moments he’s given us but, we have paid him a crap ton of money and we need to see results. w/o a win over a top 25 team or a wild run of victory’s this has to be it.

With all due respect, trending up? Come on. I’m well aware progress isn’t linear but this is ridiculous. It will be sad if you go with all that dedication, but aren’t you an RU fan? In a vacuum I see what you are saying, but that’s just the problem. Rutgers is not LSU, LSU could hire a broom stick to be their coach and they would win. Not true at RU.

On top of his Miami / Rutgers / Bucs resume, Greg was a National Champion winning defensive coordinator. If Greg goes, do you really think we’re getting a National champ coordinator to come to Rutgers??? No way. We were lucky he was willing to take on this job in the first place

Today we brought my 5 month old daughter to her first Rutgers Football game, and it brought back memories to when I was a kid watching Schiano take on the Miami Hurricanes

We won a grand total of 3 games in the 2 years prior to Schiano’s return, and we went winless in the Big 10 2 years in a row…. We were losing recruits to Temple ….. Easy to forget just how bad things were when he took over in 2020…. My Rutgers football fandom was really waning until his return.

Progress is never linear like people want it to be but since he’s been back we’ve been trending up. Greg’s had to deal with pathetic leadership above him (Hobbs), severe lack of resources, and is only just finally getting real leadership from above.

UMass was a bad loss. UMass played lights out but no excuse to lose that game. BC is a game we should have won on paper but our QB play was really bad and have to give credit to their QB who made plays. Super easy for recency bias to say “hey we suck fire the coach” but to me it’s a truly weak take.

We need to get better. QB play has been well below where it needs to be, and our defense showed some flashes today but needs to be way more consistent.

Give Schiano another year in the portal with continuity of staff, real NIL backing, and alignment from above, and let’s see what he can do.

The anti-Schiano mob has been coming for Greg for years and just been waiting for the right opportunity to pounce. It feels like we’re nearing a tipping point…. And I hate to say it but if Greg goes, I go too. I stand with Greg

In a vacuum I see what you are saying, but that’s just the problem. Rutgers is not LSU, LSU could hire a broom stick to be their coach and they would win. Not true at RU.

On top of his Miami / Rutgers / Bucs resume, Greg was a National Champion winning defensive coordinator. If Greg goes, do you really think we’re getting a National champ coordinator to come to Rutgers??? No way. We were lucky he was willing to take on this job in the first place

To be over .500 in Big 10 you have to beat 5 of these 9…..
USC, Indiana, Maryland, Northwestern, Michigan, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Penn State, Michigan State….

So let’s say we play go a perfect 4-for-4 and beat Maryland, Northwestern, Nebraska, Michigan State….no hiccups.

After going perfect against them, now you still have to pick off one of USC, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Penn State…. a reasonable goal to have… but given where our program was just a short time ago… also reasonable that it hasn’t happened yet

Schiano sucks. I’ve resigned to that fact. He’s a 20 year+ HC with a losing record.

DCs don’t always make good HCs. Besides how much of that success was Urban and how much was Greg. Be real. The last few years have shown what you’re getting in Greg. The defense has declined greatly. Games that could have been won he played not to lose and lost. And UMass and BC now are beyond embarrassing. Saying RU isn’t lsu is just a trash reason to keep a losing coach. Literally anyone could have done what Schiano has done this year. And they would have done it without nepotism and cost less. Who would have thought RU would get a sports friendly SEC univ Pres. we did. Who would have thought we’d get a high profile AD with experience in the SEC. We did. Who would have thought she’d greatly increase the NIL portfolio. She did. Why stop there. Why not believe we can get a coach who likes the leadership and sees a path to winning. Zinn gave Greg every chance this year and he blew it. His resume means nothing when he does what he’s done in year 7.

Ok I was following your train of thought until you said Zinn gave greg every chance this year, when we’re only 3 games into the season… Yes UMass was a bad loss. BC we had our backup first time qb in and he just didn’t have it. We’re 0-1 in conference play and that only loss is to USC who was supposed to blow our doors off and we lost by 7, with multiple chances to win the game if our qb played competently. Give the guy a fair shake at competing with NIL, if he still doesn’t cut it move on… but you have to give him a fair shake at it

Not true. In the watered down BE days he had more resources than anyone and still couldn’t win a title. The more money you give him the he somehow gets worse.

He gave a bag to get Lonergan. That was his choice. Did BCU a favor and they still beat him with a D2 transfer. He’s not cut out for this world. He can no longer evaluate talent and he certainly can’t assign resource allocation to it.

A new staff will be able to hopefully be better. Schiano is losing to teams he has he has far more resources than. Just doesn’t have the goods. If you and a few fans are that into him that you leave the program, adios. You were here for all the wrong reasons to start.
