Top receiver from last year gone. Top offensive lineman leaves with one game left in the year. Best offensive weapon in 2020 leaves after two years. Houston we've got a problem! Moos open the checkbook!!
Jaimes may have been our top senior O lineman. I'm not sure he'll end up being looked at as the best lineman we had on last year's team when it's all said and done. I think our O line is going to continue to improve as our underclassmen mature.

So we‘re no longer counting on Betts, Manning,Houston and Alante Brown and possible a move for Luke if he prefers...

The same was said heading in to this year. How did that work out? A serious head case mixed with guys who couldn’t beat out Levi Falck, Wyatt Liewer and Kade Warner

He had one game where he got more than 10 carries. Certainly seems like we got him the ball, mostly did it through the air, and that he was the focal point of the offense. If that's not enough for him (or his dad), then on your bike.

I think its even less likely that skipping a token bowl game would factor into a decision like this.
How could it not be? It's one piece of the same puzzle.

Quit on the bowl game.

Quit on the Illinois game this year

Quit on the Ohio State game 2019

Quit on the Minnesota game 2019

Quit on the Michigan game 2018

Don't know where it's coming from, but it's prevalent and a problrm. Don't think SF was known for that during his career here, the NFL, or coaching.

Not sure who would want to hang around it, though. Apparently not talented kids who have options.

Very well said.

Why would we count on Manning? We were counting on him this year and he was a no-show. Also for Luke, we had the opportunity to put him at receiver and didn't. Houston didn't even get on the field this year ahead of a bunch of true freshmen.

That was last year and Betts and Manning didn’t have enough time learning the system at least Betts was a true freshman with no spring..

And are we just ignoring what Fidone could possible do in this offense next fall..

I don't think calling him a head case is very nice. Depression is a real issue.

Any idea what exactly these issues are?

I’d assume he doesn’t like the fact our QBs can’t hit him in stride so he gets killed stretching for bad passes. Then we use him between the tackles and...he gets killed.

I said in in game threads, we haven’t utilized his talents. Can’t blame him for wanting to go.

OK, I thought there was some sort of locker room/team dynamic you were alluding to. I disagree about us not using him well, I think we use him masterfully, honestly. I do agree about the accuracy of our QB being a big issue.

It's impossible to hit him in stride because he's 5'8" and slower than most DB's. He's playing up to his talent level. A quick, midget receiver with average hands and mediocre top end speed. He's also a below average route runner.

a bunch of swing passes and pop passes

he was 4th in the league in receptions - 15th in rec yards per game - 25th in yards per catch and I’m not sure he had a single TD catch

those receptions per game are a mirage

Who was the best offensive lineman in 2020? What a player does beyond has nothing to do with their ranking in 2020.

We only played 8 games. No he would not get 1,400+ yards in 8 games somewhere else. We use him well and he excels here.
Double was a stretch. The kid works way too hard for 10 yard gains because we have no other threats. He averaged 9 yards a catch and 5 yards a carry. Not good.

He gets absolutely pummeled on nearly every catch he makes because the defense is focused on him. Let’s see 4-5 highlights of him busting loose over his entire career. He’d have those in a good offense. And no, Kentucky isn’t an improvement. Odd choice if that’s what he does.

He is 5’8, he’s gonna have to stretch for passes. And he is 185 lbs he is going to get killed running the ball.

" We are a young team" is how Frost opens his first press conference in 2021
Yes, we still are counting on these other folks if WR stays, but not as the primary up front weapon on offense. It is a matter of priority and focus. If WR is here, he is the priority and focus, and the others less so. Without WR, they have more opportunity. From my economics background, these other folks are "crowded out" a bit for the year - less available touches and opportunities for them. My own thought is that Will Nixon and Alante Brown get to emerge. A McCaffrey move becomes a necessity - which may be a longer term good.
