ND probably 5 deep
Yesterday I did hear about his situation at ND. He was beaten out for the starting role then regained a starting spot due to injury. And now ND has younger linemen that they prefer to be moving forward with. Translation- he was welcome to return, but they didn't exactly beg him to stay either.

If we can just land a big OT that has experience I will be satisfied with the portal class. Would be nice to land a big body nasty DL but beggars can’t be choosers
FWIW, Spindler is a OG, not a OT. Maybe another OT candidate becomes available during the spring portal window?

He started and played every snap against OSU in the National championship game.
He replaced an injured player and started 8-9 games. What ND said he is being passed over by some younger OL and will not start next year. Supposedly they have a lot of young OL that are very good.

Many of ND starting O line was injured throughout the season. The NC game was played by what was mostly backups at the start of the season. Those injured players are coming back; thus, the guys who ended up playing/starting this year are back to the bench. Looking for playing time.

Classes close today for us and Michigan. Did he visit Michigan? Gotta like our odds if he is visiting us today.

Maybe that's just wishful thinking though.

He already visited Michigan and Indiana i believe.
I saw on a Michigan forum that he hasn't visited Michigan since entering the portal, and nobody corrected the conversation about it. Not sure if its true or not, but I feel like it would be kinda crazy to commit to a school you hadn't visited (though it happens). However, being from Michigan, I'm sure he's familiar with the program so maybe a visit wasn't necessary for him if true.

Maybe I assumed he visited because @TimVerghese thought Michigan was a done deal. Maybe Michigan has a good younger guy at that position. This guy is good but we really don’t need pieces at the IOL as much as OT .

When he entered the portal, the initial assumption was it was going to be Michigan or Indiana. Nebraska worked really hard to catch his attention and now he's visiting Nebraska before (potentially even instead of) Michigan

Not sure how grad students work but do they still have to be registered for classes like undergrads today is the last day .

That date is including graduate students as well, I'm pretty positive.

The academic calendar has this for January 28: "Last day for full semester course registrations and adds including adds of thesis or dissertation credits (Census Date)." I don't know any undergrad programs that require a thesis or dissertation the way grad programs do.

There's talk about moving Spindler to center if he came to NU. Others can play center too. Either way, if Spindler gets a good sized NIL package some have wondered if there would be enough money left to overpay for a tackle this summer-- which is probably what it would take to bring someone in at that point.

I would be shocked if they went with Spindler ar Center over Jenkins. 1,309 of his 1,325 snaps were at right guard. The other 16 snaps in 2021 were at left guard. Seems like a super experienced, plug and play RG to me.

I'm not sure he has taken any/many, but I do know he has been listed as the backup Center and has taken practice reps there.

It just seems like Jenkins has been billed as the Center of the future for a while now and should know what to do there. But maybe Spindler has practiced there too, just seems like a bit of an odd move for your Senior year, unless you think that's your pro future.

Cam ended up being a great Center, obviously, but can we alll agree Cam was thrown into the fire too soon at Center, to the detriment of the team?
Oh for sure. I remember people calling for him to be benched his first 2 years. Those snaps were bad haha but all those growing pains he went through has tremendously elevated his life.

And that's just THIS year.

Donnie is credited in bringing in:

Dylan Raiola - 5 star
Grant Brix - 4 star
Preston Taumua - 4 star
Gibson Pyle - 3 star, Army All-American
Gunner Gottula - 3 star, 4 scholarship offers, full time starter

AND He was the #1 recruiter in the Big Ten for the 2024 class. (Oregon was not in the B1G at the time so idk why they have Oregon listed for that year)

Mind you, Bryce Benhart was 2x HM All-B1G and Ben Scott was HM All-B1G.

OL took a big leap this year. I'll never understand the Donnie slander. Especially after going through Cavanaugh and Austin.

the OL took a step forward only after an actual football coach came in, looked around, said WTF are we doing here and then started running more 2 TE/2 back sets to help the OL

Agree to disagree. The OL across the entire course of 13 games this year gave up less sacks than the offense did last year over 12 games when all we primarily did was force feed QB run and hand the ball off. And the OCs called 172 more pass plays this year than last. To give up less sacks in more games and opportunities is a huge improvement.

The key to me is that he's a graduate. He got his degree from Notre Dame. Now is the time to put his name out there and see what happens. If he can go experience what it's like in a different program, play some football against some different competition and make well into six figures, why not? But at the same time, seems like there not a strong pull to stay at Notre Dame either.
Surprised he wouldn’t declare for the draft.
