Does this make any sense? From the SL

Even if Schiano is hired before this weekend’s game, he is not going to take over the team immediately. Interim head coach Nunzio Campanile is still expected to end the year with his staff. Moreover, Schiano will be subject to the immense NCAA rulebook once he officially signs on. For now, he could decide it’s preferable to operate as the Rutgers head coach on the trail (at least in terms of gathering information, not actual recruiting) and in planning his staff construction, but not actually be the coach. That’s why Rutgers and Schiano may not be in any significant rush to finalize their reunion.

What exactly can Schiano do recruiting-wise for Rutgers if he hasn't been announced as coach? Getting staff together ok, but I didn't think he could have any contact with recruits. So what is a "coach on the trail."

I have been wondering the same thing? How is recruiting defined? If as a non affiliated person, I talk to a couple guys at my local high school and tell them that it would be great for them to go to RU, is that recruiting? And if I then somehow got offered a job at RU next month, could that be a violation?

yeah, I've heard that argument (including on their podcast)... not arguing... but, sorry - I'm not buying. Rutgers needs to lock this down (clearly there are no other candidates) and Gary needs to get this done too or he'll come off as too difficult to ever get another HC job... plus other jobs opening up put pressure on Hobbs...

plus Schiano really can't operate in the grey area and then take the job... NCAA doesn't like that.

nope.. this needs to be done sooner rather than later....... announcement after a tOSU thrashing is fine... but next week at latest...... is a must (JMO)

I figured it would be done by now but because our more public boosters have stopped posting, tweeting, etc., I'd say that this is all going according to plan (whatever that is).

My sources text me about an hour ago that even NJ1 is involved and has spoken to Greg about the job. When the governor talks to the new coach about facilities and the job that has to be a good thing. My source also said They will have more for us tonight.

Schiano may be overplaying his hand. He is getting more money for assistants, he is getting his new field house, but the "football palace" demand is over the top. Does anyone really expect Rutgers or the state of New Jersey to guarantee they will build a $200 million Taj Mahal just for football? Not going to happen. If GS insists on this, it may be the deal breaker.

Kinda bizarre that people create narratives in their mind and pass them off as the truth
Really weird - I think it is a symptom of seeing it occur all the time in the media and on the Internet - posters convince themselves of a position then truly believe those positions are fact. Sad

He's going to get it all.

Indoor facility, long contract, a ton more support staff, legit money for assistants, etc.
I have no inside info but hope you are right - those demands are so needed and are very reasonable. If I were Greg and did not get those things I would not take this job either. RU needs to finally put up or shut up. If they shut up then B1G membership will be in peril in the not too distance future - and rightfully so.

'Reasonable' and 'college football' are not words that I would often pair together. Nothing is reasonable about the arms race, but it is the price of doing business unfortunately in the P5... particularly the B1G.

I sincerely hope that if Greg gets everything he wants, it's not at the expense of basketball and the olympic sports, which I believe have a legitimate chance of becoming perennial top-25 programs. Rutgers Football is like the Newark school system - Throwing silly money at a seemingly intractable problem is not the answer. Truthfully, I'd be content with 6/6 - 7/5 seasons on the gridiron and then kick *** on the hardwood, the mat, and the rest of the olympic sports.

Yeah, that's really strange. Never seen that before, except in this thread and in other threads:

I would not buy that narrative. Fact is if this fell through now than Hobbs and company have not been able to finalize the details that were agreed to with Schiano.

That all sounds like a lot of speculation and spin and a poster convincing himself positions and then truly believe those positions are fact.

Taj Mahal? A little dramatic, don’t you think?

How do you not know that GS has seen Hobbs’ facilities plan and most or maybe all of what GS is asking for in right in that very plan that has already been presented to the BOG and been made public? Seriously, how do you know?

I wonder if....
- can he be named Football consultant / Assoc coach until Dec 1st 2019 so he can recruit and then become head coach on Dec 2nd (2 days after season finale)
- can he talk to coaches before he signs a deal
- if they are doing this slowly so it will be official on Friday with a big announcement at the game on Saturday
- lawyers are working through details and working through contract redlines
- RU is trying to lock down his old property for him
- Greg is trying to lock down coaches to announce with his hiring announcement

Maybe it was from living in two different states in SEC/ACC country and going to a bunch of games at State Universities, but I really wish everyone would realize what we have been doing since the late 70s is not working and we need to look around and see how it is done around the country. Most years, wouldn’t we give an arm and a leg to have academics and athletics on the level of Texas, Michigan, Stanford, Florida,Virginia

My sources tell me that Greg is scheduled to meet with Bon Jovi, Bruce, And Santa Claus. I have also been told (off the record) that they are willing to play ball and give him whatever he wants.

No clue how legitimate these guys are but I've always thought just after the season would be when anyone would be announced Schiano or otherwise.
