Moreover, Schiano will be subject to the immense NCAA rulebook once he officially signs on. For now, he could decide it’s preferable to operate as the Rutgers head coach on the trail (at least in terms of gathering information, not actual recruiting) and in planning his staff construction, but not actually be the coach. That’s why Rutgers and Schiano may not be in any significant rush to finalize their reunion.
What exactly can Schiano do recruiting-wise for Rutgers if he hasn't been announced as coach? Getting staff together ok, but I didn't think he could have any contact with recruits. So what is a "coach on the trail."
