He's 2 years younger than Roy, 6 years younger than K and only 6 years older than Cal. He easily could have 5-6 seasons or more in him if he's motivated enough, and my guess is he is HIGHLY motivated.

Yeah, I wouldn't hire Roy or Coach K. They're fossils.

Still, IU hiring Pitino given his age and baggage would be a great hire for anyone despising IU.

I would go all in on Brad Stevens...and I think it would be a possibility. A year ago, I would have never thought it would be possible. Things are in a stall mode with Stevens in Boston. I could see him making the move.

I don't think Pitino would be someone they consider. UL hasn't even bit hit with sanctions yet from the most recent scandal.

Prediction: They end up with Dane Fife

IU lead basketball writer with his candidates - Pitino not mentioned

None of that writer's "Grand Slam" hires will take the IU job. A couple of his "Home Run" hires will listen...Drew and Beard.
Oates and Musselman would be interested but, may hold out for better opportunities. IU fans would never accept Pope because of his connection to UK.
Pitino is too much of a risk. UofL still has a scandal hanging over them from RP's days that could get him a 'show cause' ban.
Actually, I think Loserville fans would have a bigger problem with RP at IU than UK fans. But, who knows?

I've been hearing some rumors about taking the Boston College job.

I really just want him off of Iona and out of the MAAC. Iona has been dominating that conference for like 7 years.. and it's all due to having two coaches who really had no business being in the crappy MAAC.

My newphew is a student at IU. Oats is the hot name up there from what he hears. Not surprising though.

Pitino at IU would be a nightmare for UK fans
If he was there for 5 years, I would bet a year salary that he'd have them back in the Elite 8 at minimum before he left.

It would not be fun at all watching Indiana become a top 2 team in the B10 and being a consistent top 4 seed while playing a fun style

I know nothing, but I would wager that #1 on their list is Stevens. Wonder how much they're willing to pay.

I am not sure but I bet they could get similar results for a lot less than what they paid Archie. I mean I would take a whole lot less and guarantee I would not make the NCAA tournament for 4 years in a row.

This is all fun for a laugh. But does anybody think a relatively new AD -- waiting for a new president hire this summer - is going to hire a guy with not one, not two, but THREE major scandals in his recent past?

Even a program with one trip beyond the Sweet 16 since 1993 is not that desperate.
You may well be right but IU’s got nothing on Sandy Bell and the public perception around Cal when he came here was not so much different, however warranted. Rick is probably more guilty but in a sense it all balances out. One reason Sandy rolled the dice on Cal is she knew he had a burning desire to clear his name, and you know Rick’s got some version of that now too. Former guilt is not all downside to a hiring board.

And they’d do some extra thinking over a guy who used to thump their best coach.

I think IU goes after Stevens. He is from Indiana and idolized Bobby Knight growing up. If he leaves the NBA I could see him wanting to revive IU to its former glory.

IU lead basketball writer with his candidates - Pitino not mentioned

People like to bring up that Pitino left a good Knicks to come to UK, even in the midst of a scandal. However, the relationship with the Knicks' GM was awful. It was obvious that Pitino wasn't going to be in New York for very much longer.

On the other hand, Danny Ainge seems to really like Stevens. Stevens is a likable guy. The Celtics are currently sitting 5th in the Western Conference in an unusual season. I think he's at least got another season before that seat gets really hot.

-Mark Few isn't leaving;
-Scott Drew isn't leaving;
-Right now, Nate Oats is the same type of hire as Archie Miller. He still has yet to proven anything in the tournament. At the time of the hire, Archie (still in his 30s) had an Elite Eight and 3 other tournament appearances in 6 years at Dayton. On the other hand, Oats (currently 46) is working on his 4th appearance.

Did he not like the state of Kentucky? I just thought I had heard that. If true though, why in the **** would he want to go to Indiana??? I mean French Lick is nice but then yeah you all get all it
