Prediction: Pitino to IU

I would think IU would get a younger coach plenty around.
Their last three hires have been the younger "up and coming" coaches. Has been an absolute train wreck. Going after a Beard or Scott Drew would be the exact same gamble. At this point have to think they want something guaranteed to help right the ship, and then in 6 years bring in another younger coach.

My guess is they make the call over to Brad Stevens, and when he politely says "thanks but no thanks" they offer Pitino $20mm for five years.

That is someone who thinks they are better and more relevant than they truly are. Maybe they should take a look at Penny Hardaway.
Don't have to look too far to see how quickly that tune changes when you are no longer winning. Posters on this board DESPISED Cal, hated him at Memphis. Then Gillespie happened and people got a close up look at what perpetual mediocrity looks like. Cal became a much more viable option after that. Gurantee IU is at the same mindset now.

The issue with their last 3 hires has been hiring them about 3 or 5 years after they had success at that school. Take a look at this:

Kelvin Sampson - hired by IU in 2006. NIT, 2nd round, 1st round in the 3 years prior to being hired.
Tom Crean - hired by IU in 2008. NIT, NIT, 1st round, 1st round, 2nd round in the 5 years prior to being hired.
Archie Miller - hired by IU in 2017. 2nd round, 1st round, 1st round in the 3 years prior to being hired.

They have jumped on guys that were hot names a few years before they hire them.

Isn't the problem that the NCAA isn't done with him or UofL yet?

I mean, if Iona had to let him go after the NCAA was done, there's no great loss because 99% of America doesn't know what an Iona is, but a B1G team taking that gamble is different.

I've been hearing some rumors about taking the Boston College job.

I really just want him off of Iona and out of the MAAC. Iona has been dominating that conference for like 7 years.. and it's all due to having two coaches who really had no business being in the crappy MAAC.

Where have you seen/ heard the BC rumors?

This is a legit possibility. If there is any interest it will not be mentioned until Iona loses.

I know a bunch of Iona grads... which is an oddly passionate fanbase for a not great low-major.

Two of them have *heard* rumors about Pitino going to BC. Still waaaaay premature.. but the BC position is kinda open? And its Boston, he'd be back in the ACC, a conference that's obviously changing over from its dominant days.

Interesting prospect, to say the least.

We'll make a major push for Stevens but it will be Drew, Musselman, or Beard IMo.
You never know, but I doubt Coach Musselman will leave Arkansas for Indiana or Minnesota which is also being talked about without much evidence. His wife has family in Arkansas and they both seem happy in Fayetteville. If he leaves, it won't be because of money, there is plenty of that in NW Arkansas and the rumor is there is a contract extension and raise being worked on.

Beard seems to be a Texas guy, but who knows?

As for Drew, I know nothing about a connection to him with Indiana, but maybe there is some traction there.

Could Beard's time under Bob Knight, listening to him rip Indiana on repeat, make him unlikely to go there?

Thought it as soon as I heard Archie fired. Rick can coach another 5-10 years if his health allows and could make them really good.

LOL @ the Internet acting like we'd be mad or outraged. Put 'em on the schedule. Cal owns Rick.

Wonder if Mike Boynton at Okie State will get a look?
He'd be smart to cash in on the Cade Cunningham Sweepstakes while he can. Shaka Smart is hot again but, Texas has REALLY deep pockets. Steve Wojciechowski maybe? Not a "big time" hire by any means. If I were IU I'd focus on Chris Beard. Probably won't get him but, just having his name associated with the job might open other door for them.

Honestly, I always thought Pitino would somehow end up at UNLV. Just seems appropriate. LOL!

Would be a great hire for IU. I believe Pitino can make them a contender again.
Arizona will finally let Sean Miller go. Guess what... Pitino to Arizona. I think Rick is still too dirty for IU, but fits better with the crooks at Arizona.
