I love my egg but thinking about getting a wood smoker. Not a pellet grill. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Same here but every offset with the best reviews are higher than a good pellet grill

You can spend a lot, but you don't have to.

I've been using a pretty heavy Char Griller that I got at Home Depot, but like most of the less expensive ones, the seams start to leak smoke. The saving grace on my current one is that it actually has a brace preventing the wood box from pulling down. Not many have that, and with my last smoker, after that box got heated up a bunch of times, it started to separate from the main chamber, leaking heat.

The heavier the steel, the less the seams leak. They sell these at H-E-B here for ~$1300, and I'm very tempted to get one. The lid must weigh 20 pounds:

I don't see the brace under the wood box, though.

Unless you plan on towing it to games and such, I'd opt for the most stable, solid one you can find at the best price point.

Whatever the model smoker you have, just a tip…on Amazon you can get high temp adhesive gasket seals for any grills or smokers that keep the smoke in pretty well. Like $15 for a 6’ roll or something.

Have any of you taken a broken pellet grill and removed the electronic/pellet hopper box and converted it into a wood smoker?

I have a Pit Boss that had a huge issue and burned up that box but the main smoker body is solid.

I’ve got a Jambo economy, which I don’t think they make any more, back from when I used to cook competition. If I had it to do over again I would buy an American Bar B Que Systems Bar B Qube Its small enough to cook on at home but large enough to cook for a crowd. I like the BGE better than the Jambo. I only cook on the Jambo about once per year when I’m cooking for a crowd. I’m honestly not a fan of cooking exclusively over wood, it’s not consistent and more often than not I get to strong of smoke. Lump charcoal on the egg is almost automatic. The Bar B Qube probably impressed me the most of all the grills I saw on the cooking circuit.
