IMO, Todd, Kratch, Politi are good.
So is the Munchmobile Guy

All the others, especially the lunatic Moran who is a disgrace , are click bait fake news twits

support them for Todd, Kratch, and Politi. nj.com goes down, no one else devotes the same resources to Rutgers Coverage. They've been like an extension of the athletic department, as a PR arm for a long time, through bad times and good.

If it’s to keep Big Joe Henry employed...I wouldn’t put up a fight.
i like their traffic, weather and Big Joe Henry. And that’s it.

Loathe that “echo chamber” thing they have going on over there. Hate it.
What is the deal with that echo sound ? That being said, can you imagine if that station with the number of listeners they have, with the geographic location, and with that strong a signal actually supported Rutgers-academics, cultural events, and sports. If we could get our games on that station, instead of WCTC high schools signal, almost everyone in the state could get it.( I don’t think it reaches Fortescue or Montague) Add in coaches shows and a five minute Rutgers Report each morning.

Who else besides the SL covers Rutgers sports? The NY Times, the Daily News, the NY Post, the Bergen Record, the Philadelphia Inguirer? NONE do. It is the only media outlet of any kind, print or broadcast, that routinely covers our football- basketball -wrestling etc programs. I get that A lot of folks hold a grudge over how badly they treated us in the past, and I emphasize 'past'. Time to move on and appreciate having the only media friend we've got, in our corner, imo.
The Asbury Park Press does a decent job. There used to be a guy at one of the Trenton papers who supported us-not sure if he is still there. Morristown Record was also pretty good, although I have not seen that paper since I moved to The Shore. The Home News is the New Brunswick/Central New Jersey paper which is only halfway decent compared to papers in other large university towns. I remember when I lived in South Carolina, The State newspaper would have like six pages of coverage on Saturdays during football season, but would always have full articles about basketball and baseball on an almost daily basis. Football was a 365 day affair.

I understand the antipathy based on past events.

However.

All successful NCAA programs need a media cheerleader. NJ.com is the best candidate. And, if we're being honest, they have been very strong advocates of the program since the Schiano hire, inclusive of the past basketball season.

Look at it another way. Mets fans are still Mets fans, in spite of the fact that the Wilpons own the team. Likewise, Yankees fans were, and are, Yankees fans in spite of the George Steinbrenner years.

NJ.com has had, and will continue to have, some bad actors. But a mature relationship requires recognizing the positive as well as the negative. I choose to remain hopeful that the athletic department will act responsibly, that NJ.com will manifest a reasonably fair editorial position and everyone will benefit.
This. It's amazing how coverage improves when we field a competitive and competent program in something. See RU Hoops this past season.

All these years they write negative articles about Rutgers, most short on facts, and now they want our help.

It's not like Spanky's all that hard to find. I mean, if you miss the pirate flag and the fully stocked bar then you're sure to notice the curly-haired dude standing on top of some old Chevy yelling "HEY, COME HERE AND DRINK WITH ME!!?

Arguably without Politi's non-stop coverage, Schiano would not have been hired.

They have better coverage of the Yankees, then the NYC papers.

In any case, if you don't like them, don't read them.

As for those who are gleeful about the possibility of another person losing their job, I don't think you would act so poorly if you weren't anonymous.

You‘re a fool ... please be our guest and send your $$$$ to the rag that for many years did all they could to paint Rutgers and our sports programs as not worthy of staying in D 1 sports... maybe they should call Bill Dowling for a large monetary reward... if you really are serious then send those guys a personal check ... doubt that’ll happen.

you have selective memory. They were just telling the truth, which you can't handle. For many years, Rutgers wasn't spending enough to be competitive in Div 1 sports. Grabers salary was $175K. Terry Shea's salary was $250K. Greg Schiano's first salary was $700K, and it was only then that Rutgers started being competitive.

Add my name to the send you're $10 to list.
I promise to be nice until my first real chance to knife Rutgers in the back.
And for an extra $25 I'll make Josh and Ted look like they were Rutgers fans
while promoting Kevin Manahan to replace Hobbs and Zoffinger to replace Barchi

No my memory is fine ... hey al they didn’t help us back then no matter what you think ... nobody is saying we didn’t spend or had issues but even YOU complained about the N.J. press ...I ‘ve be been following Rutgers since 1967 so I have seen how bad the N.J. news got versus The Newark Evening News and later The Star Ledger... the old time reporters and their bosses treated Rutgers fairly realizing our leadership sucked... now since we are spending $$$$ they want to be a part of this renaissance in major sports and academics... so as I said if you want to donate then buddy be my guest...you have been known on here as a loyal guy so I respect that but they will survive... btw: tell them to reinstate the comments section and they get more donors.

I have used them every day during this crisis. and they have done a great job. However, why ask for charity? Simply go pay only format, with a free trial. If this new business model doesn't work now, it never will. $$$$

Their "truth" was we were already spending TOO much way back when. And that was from the editorial page(s) and not the sports section.

They need a new revenue model. They should go to those folks who have hated Rutgers for years and see what they can get out of them. Don't like to see anybody lose a job, but I have zero use for the SL or NJ dot com. If RU has a fan base, somebody will try to appeal to it.

Not surprising that the most triggered on this thread are the same cretins who largely inhabit the CE board.

How dare someone express an opinion that their twisted version of reality doesn’t comport with.

It's not even close. The NY Post rules on Yankees coverage. NJ.com isn't in the same league.
No, they are. I use to take note out of frustration when Devils during the playoffs in 2017 couldn't get one story on Page 1 of NJ.com but there was about a half dozen Yankees articles. I paid attention.

no one else is going to provide the same scope of coverage that nj.com does. They have Todd Hunt covering recruiting, Sargeant, Politi, and Kratch covering Rutgers in general. We’d have to make do with less.

Rutgers needs to find a way to get RU-TV and R Vision on all cable outlets in the state. Create our own media and tell the anti-Rutgers media to take a hike. I still have no idea how the statewide New Jersey Public TV has ended up in the hands of Montclair State and WNET Channel 13 which is supposed to be a Newark station, but rarely acts like it.

If there is a market for the coverage, it will be picked up. If there isn't, nj dot com would not continue it. They aren't a charitable organization. They are in it for the money. Their model was to trash RU to get the clicks. Worked for a while. Doesn't anymore.

everyone is in it for the money.

The vast majority of their coverage over the last 30 years, didn't trash RU. No one else has the same reach, which is the entire state, and has devoted the same resources to covering Rutgers. we'll probably be reading Steve Politi in a publication like theathletic.com. we'll be depending on tiny morsels of coverage from the Home News, NY Times, NY Post, NY Daily News, APP, The Record and the like. The day that nj.com ceases to exist will be a very sad day for Rutgers Athletics.

I agree that Rutgers wasn't spending enough to be competitive, but a lot of that had to do with lack of fan support and lack of support of the general population of NJ. This is something that we've had to overcome despite the Star Ledger coverage. You can argue that Rutgers was never good enough to receive praise, but that's not the entirely true. The Star Ledger went after Rutgers from the start and always tried to dig up dirt. Even when we were good in the Schiano years, they didn't give him all the praise he deserved. When we did try to spend money, they came out like crazy against it and tried to rally the citizens of NJ against it because it would be a waste of money.

I'm not looking for praise if we're not performing, but don't go after us if we're trying to become big time. Don't put a negative spin on everything. Just be truthful. If the old formula isn't profitable, change your strategy. Get behind the team. We are The State University of New Jersey. We're the only FBS team in the state. You can't become good overnight and you certainly can't become good if you don't have support from the people of NJ. Take the strategy of uniting the people behind one team.
