And the Yanks lost two to the Jays! Good day and night on the diamond. Sounds like several starters will rest today.

Mets are fun to watch (from an old Yankee fan, although they kinda lost a good part of me when they tore the stadium down - loved going there).

If not for some shady home score keeping mets could've had 4/5 errors. Second team lineup and still won

BTW Parnell came in and did a good job

Thanks goodness for the Mets after last night and the Carroo mess....heard about the Carroo suspension as we were leaving the Jets game and then 2 minutes later - Murphy hits the 3 run game tying HR - and Carroo was off my radar until I got home and read the severity of it.....again, thank goodness for the Mets....:) Maybe Terry Collins is interested in being HC at RU...:)

The scoring was hysterical..Looked like a high school game out there..Sadly Murphy has no position other than DH.He is brutal on the field..But i will take the win..Lets Go Mets !
I think he's done an admirable job at 1st base considering he'd never played there as far as I know.

The magic number is:

Feb 5, 2003

9,370

Wow - the Mets have the lowest magic number in baseball. Who would've predicted that two months ago?

It is currently a virtual tie with the Dodgers now for home field - one more win and one more loss.

I hope they can clinch during this homestand. Might be overly ambitious thinking but anything can happen.

I'm a METS fan but casual baseball watcher. Until July, I usually watch an inning or two a night. I haven't read 90% of this thread but I have to ask. Who was the poster a few years back that went on and on about how the METS letting Jose Reyes walk would ruin them for years and nobody would come and watch?

Cespedes hit in back with pitch. Wasn't happy we will see what happens. Mets had chance to put it away early with bases loaded and one out with one in already. TDA and Duda pop out.

Don't like that Degrom didn't stick up for his teammate Cespedes. Needed Syndegaard or Harvey out there. Didn't pitch well at all either. Team can't go very far in the postseason if he and Harvey don't regain the level they were pitching at earlier in the season.

Maybe he needs to skip a start.

RU for Jersey - agree with you again 100% - which is scary...:).....Degrom should have plunked Koehler...was glad to see Goedell try to do it and then keep pitching him inside.....I think Degrom needs to skip a start or 2 as well to get him back on track.....one issue I have had with Met pitchers all season is their inability or reluctance to hit batters...D'arnaud got plunked by Ramos of Marlins and no retaliation early in year and countless other situations as well.....

It set a really bad precedent. Do you think all these young pitchers will be resigned? Cespedes is a goner. Our window of opportunity is very short.

It always is in baseball. METS won't spend what the Yankees do so you have to hope to strike while the iron is hot. Plus, they don't need to sign all of them....just most. People wanted Cespedes gone bc his was a rental who poisoned the locker room. Granted I don't read many METS articles but I thought this team liked him.

Odds are looking like the four game series in Cincinnati is where Mets can clinch. In Philly would be too close for comfort and will leave less time to rest and set up rotation.

Jon Heyman reported the Mets came in second with Cano and were offering $175 million.
it's being floated that Cespedes wants to remain a Met, and if they offer a fair contract he will take it (he is apparently loving the limelight of NYC).

I think they would be crazy not to sign him. One of the more exciting players in the league. Brings all the tools. Definite revenue generator. Fans will pay to watch him play.

DeGrom's food poisoning bout 2 weeks ago sounds more and more like e.coli to the healthcare professionals among my friends and family. If caught quickly, as it would be in a professional athlete and in this case, its not deadly, but will take a long time (weeks to even months) to truly feel back to normal. Skipping a start won't be a cure-all, but it wouldn't hurt as he'd have a solid stretch to rest and let the body continue to recover.

I've heard nothing but this as well, Cespedes seems to have found his niche in this clubhouse.

Cmon Mets another loss down to 7.5. Off tomorrow with Nats playing Marlins. Can't lose 4 of 6 to Marlins. I need the Mets to win to get mind off this mess.

Poor hitting and bad pitching but other than that it was a great game. Hope those pesky Marlins show up the same way against the Nats.

Collins at it again:

1. Stop with the platoon squads. Lagares sucks and why is Eric Campbell playing? Campbell couldn't make my Over 50 year old softball team
2. Go with your best team and yes Conforto; Murphy and Duda can hit lefties.........

Now with the Yankee series looming; the Nats playing well and the "choke" word looming - I'm getting nervous.....further not knowing how Matz or Syndegaard will perform this weekend and lord knows what to expect from Harvey....

The only good thing is no Marlins anymore as they have our number...now watch the Marlins get swept by the Nats......

If you look at the lineups, Collins is already resting the better bats in big numbers. I understand the rationale since you're not going to do that against the Yankees for any number of reasons. The first being its a throw the records out rivalry series. The second being that the Yankees are a good team unlike the dregs they've mostly been playing since the trade deadline. If the Mets take 2 out of 3 or of course sweep this weekend that will probably do in the Nats for good. The Nats are unlikely to take 4 out of 4 from the Marlins, let's say 3 out of 4. That gets you I'd say between 3 to 5 more knocked off the magic number. If the Mets lose the series this weekend its time to start panicking a bit.

Update: Hopefully the Marlins hang on here tonight and get us back up 8 with the magic number down to 9.
