They are a fun bunch to watch. Amazing that this team was under .500 in July. They'd have double their current lead if they had this lineup all season. Maybe more.

It is fun to do a search of Cespedes in this forum and read some of the concerns and criticism about the deal when the Mets acquired him. I am not naming names, but you can see a few guys that might like to eat some crow.

Cespedes deserves some MVP votes for sure, even if he has only been in the NL for two months. What a difference maker he's been.

He's trying to figure out a way to rub Andy Pettite's and Roger Clemons' souped up Icy Hot on Texiera's bum leg...

Not feeling it with overtaking the Dodgers. It may not be such a bad thing - with Kershaw and Greinke going G1/G2, you hope for a split wherever the games are played - then you force their Tier 2 starters to pitch at Citi Field, where we hopefully clinch in G4.

Of course I ordered a Harvey jersey 2 days before the fiasco. Wearing it with pride right now anyway. Love #33 - tip of the cap to Bird.

Uribe! 7-2 mets in 9th. Alvarez pitched well tonight. Next Mets goal is to get Murphy hot again. Doesn't hurt to Johnson coming up huge. Just bought Hyduai club seats for 22nd vs Braves.

We could catch them. The Dodgers' upcoming schedule, three games per series except where noted:

at Arizona
Colorado
rest day (only one left! 17 games in 17 days after this one)
Pittsburgh
Arizona (four)
at Colorado
at San Francisco (four) - you think Giants' fans wouldn't love to spoil the Dodgers' home field chances?
San Diego

Mets the rest of the way:

at Atlanta (three more counting tonight)
Miami
rest day
Yankees
Atlanta
at Cincinnati (four)
rest day
at Philly
Washington

For those who wonder how the Mets will fare vs the Dodgers, Cards, Pirates, or Cubs in the postseason, here are the season series results:

vs Dodgers: Mets 4 wins, Dodgers 3 - all games played in July. Mets were 2-2 in games started by Kershaw and Greinke, although neither of them got tagged with a loss.

vs Cardinals: Mets 3, Cardinals 4 - four games in St Louis in May, three in NY in July

vs Cubs: lost all seven. Ugh. Let's be done with that, okay? Four in May, three in late June/early July

vs Pirates: lost all six. Three in May, three in August.

The good news is we can only face one of the Cubs/Pirates/Cards.

The thing about those games is that with the exception of that last series with the Pirates where we got swept at home, almost all of the others were pre-Cespedes and the rest of the additions. Not nearly the same Mets team now, as we certainly know and are relishing in.

Mets could have won all 3 of those Pirates games too. Two extra innings losses and a Bobby Parnell meltdown when it was 1-1 in the 7th. He's unlikely to ever pitch again in a meaningful game.

Hate to be picky and hope to be wrong, but Flores made a few good plays last night and Tejada has killed two innings in his first two at bats already

Double reverse jinx anti jinx works again [roll]. Tejada gets single that leads to pass ball run for Mets. I will keep trying my best for all of the Mets fans out there!

Gotta love Matz. Of course some on this board will be upset that he screamed the F-bomb into his glove after giving up the homer. To me it shows character and that he cares.

Few interesting points / tidbits:

- Thought the Mets were very flat tonight buy regardless still won...
- Per Jon Heyman, Mets will make a serious bid for Cespedes. They have money as Heyman reported that if the Mariners didn't go bonzo with their offer to Cano - the Mets were the next highest bidder at $175M. I think Wilpon realizes the star power Cespedes has and the bad -will that will occur should the Mets not make a serious run at him. Cespedes likes it here a lot but he's a "businessman".
- Per Heyman, Boras is in Japan and will be returning within the week and a presser will occur with Alderson etc on Harvey's status for balance of year. My prediction given the status of the pennant race is to expect 1 more start (Yankees?) and then 1 per series in playoffs - however Mets will not adhere to the 60 pitch limit for the playoffs. Heyman did say there may be bruised feelings between Harvey and Mets Management.

First post of mine since the old setup.

This team is so much fun to watch. They are actually making late baseball season something to look forward to.

What year was it that the Mets owned the Dodgers during the regular season, and blew it to them in the playoffs. The Mike Sosa HR in that playoff killed them. You can put the regular season results to bed once the playoffs start. The way the Mets are playing right now, they CAN beat anyone.

I realize its a little premature for this but I have started giving some thought to the post season roster and it will be interesting to see what TC does particularly with the pitching staff. Here is my projected roster.

OF - Conforto, Cespedes, Granderson, Lagares and Cuddyer (5)
Kirk and EY do not make it.

INF- Wright, Flores, Murphy, Duda, Uribe, Johnson, Tejada (7)
Herrera and Campbell don't make it

C - D'Arnaud and Plawecki (2)
I don't think they carry a 3rd so Recker and Monell don't make it.

That leaves room for 11 pitchers

Starting Candidates DeGrom, Harvey, Synderggard, Matz, Colon and Niese (6)
One or two of these guys would need to pitch from the bullpen since we don't need more than 4 starters
I think DeGrom, Matz, Harvey and Colon/Synderggard are the likely starters.
Do you keep Niese on the roster if he does not get himself straightened out? Can he pitch out of the pen? Can you see TC picking him to start over Matz?
Colon has been so good recently its hard to rule him out of a start even though it has been against the Phillies and Braves.

Relievers Familia, Clippard, Reed, Robles, Alvarez, Gilmartin, Torres (inj), Parnell, O'Flaherty, Verrett
Familia, Clippard, Reed Robles and either Gilmartin/Alvarez would seem like the locks if we go 5 from the bullpen. You definitely need atleast one lefty of the pen and ideally you have two. The question is whether Niese could be the second lefty
I don't see slots for Parnell, O'Flaherty and Verret. Torres would need to prove he is ready to pitch over the last couple of week

Only way to get thru heartbreaker .....Mets 11-9 and Nats must go 21-0. Cespedes again ! If we won I was going to give grant the intial Cespedesian effort award . Harper making MVP vote closer than it should few more K's and another 0-fer with plenty left on base.
