As I said earlier on Friday that the Yankees needed more wins this weekend than the Mets, I wasn't wishing for a sweep by either team.
Let hope both teams are playing to get to the WS. There is nothing more electric in NY when both NYC teams go deep in the playoffs.

The Mets will likely be swept by another good team in the playoffs. Unless they get to play Philly or Miami.

If it weren't for Tejada the Mets would probably be getting shut out yet again. By CC Fatbathia no less. He had a .400 career batting average off CC coming in and had one of the few well hit balls all night, In the last 2 games really.

Awful loss. Need to play much better against good teams. Maybe they are intent on creating some drama after all. They are still managing the staff like they have clinched already. Win the damn thing first !

Did a guy with Bartolo Colon in his rotation just type "Fatbathia" ?

Another series pissed away with Collins' incompetence. That's the lineup they go with last night? Need a big start out of John Niese (GOOD GOD) tonight.

Yankees needed these wins, and they should send a bouquet of flowers to Yawkey Way as the Red Sox have almost single handedly kept them in the race going 4-2 against the Jays.

Mets will still cruise to East title.

Should take 2 of 3 against the Braves. Tonight worries me...Shelby Miller is due for a win and Niese is horrible.

Look at it this way--we helped out our brothers across town. Unless the Mets implode, we are in the playoffs. Yanks may be in a dog fight for a wild card. Mets better get that bullpen cleaned up. Would love to see both teams make the playoffs.

The Yankees won the Subway Series 4-2. The Mets are still the Mets. They are so lucky to be in the NL East, which is a horrible division I believe over 50 games under .500. That is a joke. I cannot see the Mets winning the World Series. Cespedes couldn't do anything vs. the Yankees.

Umm, Cespedes went into the series in a slump. It happens to great players. Would rather he slump now than in the playoffs. Bigger issue for Mets is bullpen.

I agree. With the incredibly easy schedule that the Mets have ....no problem.
They have four series left.....one with the worst team in MLB (Philly), one with the second worst team in MLB (Atlanta), and one with the Reds....at .426 not far from the Braves and the Phillies. Only the final series of the regular season is vs. a decent team.....Washington. And they're not impressing too many people these days.
Christmas comes early for the Metsies.

The bigger issue is the fact that basically everyone not named Steven Matz or Bartolo Colon pretty much are slumping out right now. The even bigger issue is that Terry Collins is not a good manager. Seems like a real good guy, but his obsession with giving O'Flaherty chance after chance and the Left-Right lineup balance is costing them games. A night like last night you throw your best hitters out there. Lagares and Tejada should be on the pine, Cespedes should have been in Center, Conforto in Left and Flores at SS. Cuddyer is fine if you're looking to give Grandy the night off. The reality is they need to stop setting lineups and pitching matchups like they've clinched the division when there's a very long way to go. The problem is Terry Collins doesn't get that and a peon like me does.

Cespedes isn't in a "slump". He just reverted back to normal form. A good, but streaky player. Nothing more. The funny thing is, some stupid team (hopefully not from NY) will overpay like crazy for this guy during the off season and it will make the Cano contract look good. Both are below average effort guys and long contracts with such players are just stupid.

I rarely listen to lardass but I see he hasn't changed. Fatsessa make one point and repeats it and beats it into the ground for the next half hour. What a blowhole.

Why are our hitters often so inept in situations that should strongly favor the batter? Bases loaded and no outs and Duda pops up and then after getting a 2-0 count the best d'arnaud can do is hit a weak grounder to short!!!' And then of course there's another boneheaded play by Murphy. I swear I'd rather have the rookie Conforto at the plate in that situation than some of these other guys.

You were saying about having Conforto at the plate?

Bizarre to have Flores trying to steal 2nd. I guess they felt he had a better chance of stealing it than of Niese getting the bunt down.

Miller's all over the place tonight.

Niese is actually pitching well and yet is out after 6 innings and 88 pitches. A little too formulaic for me.

D Arnaud is in a slump. He corkscrewing himself into the ground on his swing and miss and has developed a upper cut. Needs to regain his balance and level out his swing. Some good signs last night. If Reed keeps this up he may replace Clippard as the 8th inning guy before the end of the year. Nice to see Cespedes hitting ropes again. On the downside the Harvey thing won't die and no one seems to like how this being handled. Hard to defend. If he is going to pitch 3 innings in one of his last outings I think he would be better served in a relief than starting role. Just let him start an inning so he has time to prepare properly.

Kudos to Niese for a stellar line last night. Job well done, sir! It might've been nice to send him out for the 7th too with a relatively low pitch count, but things worked out with Reed anyway.

Mets vs Wisler again today. He held the Mets to two runs in six innings on 9/11 but still took the L. Logan Verrett has done a very good job as a spot starter to this point. Let's hope he can get the job done tonight.

With the Nationals rainout yesterday, they no longer have any days off this season. Adam Jones could return to the lineup for the Orioles today. He was going to sit out last night.

TC mentioned getting him out before another one of his patented 5-run innings (in somewhat nicer words). For once, I agreed with the move.
