Like him or not, Don Imus will always be a legend in the radio entertainment industry.

I was actually listening to the infamous show driving to work when he talked talked trash about RU WBB. Was very surprised that he made that comment at the time, as was Bernie.

I liked Imus more back in the 70’s than in recent years. But he had great interviews with very influential people for many years.

May he RIP.

He had the most amazing interview list of anyone in radio and his questions were solid. Some of the give and take was fabulous, like Bush41 telling him he had had some his Imus Salsa before he had dinner (and lost dinner) with the Prime Minister of Japan.

Figured when he totally disappeared after retiring his health was fading

RIP.

Time heals all wounds, especially when an apology is given and accepted.

I’ll offer my condolences to all of Don Imus’ family and all that care for the man.

I bare no ill will towards him over an incident that was settled and will not make issue on what happened , which might be considered hurtful to those mourning his death.

But point out that incident had a ending that was agreeable to all involved.

>Rutgers women’s basketball coach C. Vivian Stringer said Friday the team had accepted radio host Don Imus’ apology. She said he deserves a chance to move on<

He will be missed. I remember him being on WNBC with Howard Stern. He was the Big Dog before Stern.
He apologized for what he said about the Rutgers Women's Basketball team.
He was trying to be funny early in the morning that one day that crossed the line into racism. But remember, It was Rosenberg who was the instigator, not Imus. Imus did deserve to lose his job over it.
Not defending him, but we have a President who says worse things every day and he may get re-elected.

Imus had a very unique entertaining show that had politicians from both sides on his TV and radio show. He tried to be fair, mostly.
There is no one who does what he did in the second half of his career. Stern is trying but he will not be Imus. Imus reinvented himself masterfully.

Imus was not perfect and sometimes mean, but overall he will be in a good place for all the good he did for the poor kids afflicted with cancer.

He was a radio legend. When I started my current job 15 years ago and was driving to work at 6am, I would listen to him on my 30-minute drive every morning. He was a good interviewer and his sense of humor made me laugh. His mistakes with the Rutgers women’s basketball team gave him a deserved punishment. And he made a comeback after that.

A lot of his format was really off color for that time, but other segments were hilarious. Would listen to him almost every morning during my early work years.

Love him or hate him, he was definitely influential in talk radio, no question. You could argue that he was the foundation that allowed WFAN and sports talk radio as a whole to become what it is today.

I liked him before he became a shill, selling everything on the show that he had an interest in with Bo Deedle, brother Fred, etc. Also became an ornery, righteous jerk. Helped Mad Dog quite a bit though. Smart and witty, but changed a lot over the years.

He was a radio icon. In the earlier days he was just a shock jock with some very funny characters. As he evolved into talk radio, he did a good job of mixing in his humor with fabulous interviewing skills. He was on the air when the WTC was attacked and handled it spectacularly. That stuff and the charitable work he did made him a legend. After the Rutgers WBB thing and the later political talkfest crap, he wasn't as entertaining or worth a listen, but back in the day it was must-listen radio in the mornings.

Never listened to him. Only really knew him from Private Parts and from commercials on WFAN.

Great interviewer who was unafraid to ask the tough questions and put his guests on the spot. That said, Bernie and Syd had no love lost towards him after having worked for him all those years.

Will 'Nappy headed hos' be on his tombstone ?

C'Viv and the RU W BB team are 10-1 play and play Wisconsin at 3pm tomorrow. Doubt there will be a moment of silence for Imus.

Let it go. You will feel better if you can do that.

I saw what it did for the kids, they lit up and loved it there.

The ranch in NM was just one of many charitable contributions that Imus made throughout his career to underprivileged children.

Those who trash him for the ranch failure are probably mostly ignorant about his fund raising efforts for charities he supported for the past 50 years.

"Through the years, while he’d often teetered on the edge separating mere bad taste from reprehensible conduct, he had always managed to avoid falling into the abyss. He has called African-American Bill Rhoden, The New York Times sports columnist, a “quota hire,” while characterizing another African-American, Gwen Ifill of PBS’ “Washington Week,” as a “cleaning lady. “Congressman Joe Barton of Texas, who once offended Imus, was called “a lying fat little skunk from Texas,” Lesley Stahl a “gutless, lying weasel,” Rush Limbaugh a “fat, pill-popping loser,” and Arabs “ragheads.”

He also attacked Jews, per a 2006 New York Times blog:

"Shortly before Christmas last year, syndicated radio star and MSNBC host Don Imus called the book publishers Simon & Schuster “thieving Jews” (Imus in the Morning, 12/15/04), returning to the subject later in the program to offer a mock apology, saying that the phrase he used was “redundant.”

… Imus [also] called Washington Post media writer Howard Kurtz “that boner-nosed … beanie-wearing little Jew boy” (Newsday, 10/19/98).

Quack quack.
From what I remember....
Don was being forced to hire a union worker for sound production. He was not a fan of having to have one and said he didn't want one. He had no choice, so he gave the guy one and only sound to produce ever. The duck Quack.

Can anyone remember if that was true, and/or I have lost my mind...

I think he accomplished a bit more than just that. Not a fan but I remember hearing him on my school bus as a kid.
Yeah me too. They had Imus and Howard Stern both for a few years. Still remember the ads for them, "If we weren't so bad, we wouldn't be so good!"
LOL.
