He will be remembered because of his remarks regarding Rutgers women basketball players.
RIP. My old man loved him. I never got him. I figured he must have been 90+. Was shocked to see he was only 79. Drugs are a terrible thing.
Like him or not, Don Imus will always be a legend in the radio entertainment industry.
I was actually listening to the infamous show driving to work when he talked talked trash about RU WBB. Was very surprised that he made that comment at the time, as was Bernie.
I liked Imus more back in the 70’s than in recent years. But he had great interviews with very influential people for many years.
May he RIP.

He had the most amazing interview list of anyone in radio and his questions were solid. Some of the give and take was fabulous, like Bush41 telling him he had had some his Imus Salsa before he had dinner (and lost dinner) with the Prime Minister of Japan.

Time heals all wounds, especially when an apology is given and accepted.
I’ll offer my condolences to all of Don Imus’ family and all that care for the man.
I bare no ill will towards him over an incident that was settled and will not make issue on what happened , which might be considered hurtful to those mourning his death.
But point out that incident had a ending that was agreeable to all involved.

I think he accomplished a bit more than just that. Not a fan but I remember hearing him on my school bus as a kid.
He will be missed. I remember him being on WNBC with Howard Stern. He was the Big Dog before Stern.

Not defending him, but we have a President who says worse things every day and he may get re-elected.

There is no one who does what he did in the second half of his career. Stern is trying but he will not be Imus. Imus reinvented himself masterfully.
Imus was not perfect and sometimes mean, but overall he will be in a good place for all the good he did for the poor kids afflicted with cancer.

He was a radio legend. When I started my current job 15 years ago and was driving to work at 6am, I would listen to him on my 30-minute drive every morning. He was a good interviewer and his sense of humor made me laugh. His mistakes with the Rutgers women’s basketball team gave him a deserved punishment. And he made a comeback after that.

A lot of his format was really off color for that time, but other segments were hilarious. Would listen to him almost every morning during my early work years.
Love him or hate him, he was definitely influential in talk radio, no question. You could argue that he was the foundation that allowed WFAN and sports talk radio as a whole to become what it is today.
I liked him before he became a shill, selling everything on the show that he had an interest in with Bo Deedle, brother Fred, etc. Also became an ornery, righteous jerk. Helped Mad Dog quite a bit though. Smart and witty, but changed a lot over the years.
He was a radio icon. In the earlier days he was just a shock jock with some very funny characters. As he evolved into talk radio, he did a good job of mixing in his humor with fabulous interviewing skills. He was on the air when the WTC was attacked and handled it spectacularly. That stuff and the charitable work he did made him a legend. After the Rutgers WBB thing and the later political talkfest crap, he wasn't as entertaining or worth a listen, but back in the day it was must-listen radio in the mornings.

Funny thing, I listened to Imus a lot back then, but I was , and still am, a big C Viv and RU WBB fan. The day he made that racist, dumb comment, I never listened to him again.

Those who trash him for the ranch failure are probably mostly ignorant about his fund raising efforts for charities he supported for the past 50 years.

From what I remember....
Don was being forced to hire a union worker for sound production. He was not a fan of having to have one and said he didn't want one. He had no choice, so he gave the guy one and only sound to produce ever. The duck Quack.
