OT: Alec Baldwin killed someone on the set.

Anyone who points a gun (that he/she is not 100% sure of it's harmlessness based on their own inspection) and pulls the trigger at another person and kills that person should be potentially guilty of involuntary manslaughter IMO.

Yeah, it is tough for me to say this is the responsibility of each actor. I get it- know how to handle guns even if they are shooting blanks, and I would 100% want to check each time if I had to shoot a gun for acting, but I dont expect them to be experts on props and stunts. Thats why there are people hired specifically for those things. I also wouldnt expect a random actor to know the difference between real c4 and prop c4. They are given a prop and by definition it isnt meant to do the thing it can do in real life.


If he was dicking around though- jail time.

If actors can’t be taught or verified to be able to handle firearms.. they can make musicals with Pierce Brosnan and Meryl Streep.

you don’t have to be an expert on the safety. It’s pretty basic stuff.

First off, you are both trolls. Secondly, anyone handling a gun needs to be familiar with guns and ammo. Blanks and live rounds do not look the same. The blank does not have a big piece of lead in the end of the bullet. Its just powder and a cap and maybe some wadding. Yes if you stick it up to your head its dangerous. No you can not possibly shoot someone with a blank that is standing a couple feet away. No projectile in a blank. Baldwin is a 17n douchebag and I think its hilarious this idiot shot someone. So no one knows if Baldwin intended to fire the gun or whether when doing so he pointed it at the victims? I’m guessing he did and, if so, he has a problem (negligent homicide, involuntary manslaughter etc). But all seems speculation at this juncture. And yes we who grew up w guns and who had responsible parents were taught not to point at anything we don’t intend to kill.

The way these things work. The prop director and firearms coordinator (and there is one) will be found criminally negligent. The producer will also face charges. Baldwin will likely not have to do anything other than testify. But he's 17d career wise. Doubt he'll work again anytime soon.
From reports, he's never really liked the business anyway.

Some of the takes in this thread are pretty wild. I understand the dislike for Baldwin (I’m not a fan either). But what I don’t get is the “karma is a *****” take. What exactly do you think is going to happen to Alec? The only people this is going to impact long term is the girl who died, her husband and her young daughter. Fundamental rights should not have qualifiers. There is no right to drive a car. Driving (in public) is a privilege granted by the state once you meet the state’s requirements. I agree with the sentiment, but who establishes what constitutes “training”? Pretty sure the training you mention and the training I received from my Dad would not satisfy the bureaucracy. Twenty-one states, including MS, do not require training nor permits to carry openly and/or concealed depending on the state, and yet negligent discharges (there really is no such thing as an accidental discharge) are thankfully rare. Baldwin is an idiot, and he will weasel out of this by going on parade with an anti-gun/anti-2nd Amendment message.

The right to vote has qualifiers- felons not voting, limits on when voting can take place, etc.

The right to free speech has qualifiers- libel, slander, placing others in danger, etc.

The right to bear arms has qualifiers- felons not carrying, limits as to what are kegal arms(nukes should be allowed?), etc.
