Translation: HE GONE… sucks for Ole Miss to have to go through a college football playoff with an interim… Kiffin is a slime ball, but he has been for a while now so nothing new
I would take him over Greg in an instant.Big Ten: Minnesota might be the most irrelevant program in college football. Don’t mistake that for being the worst, because during PJ Fleck’s tenure they’ve won six bowl games and have never finished worse than 5-7 back in his first season. But when’s the last time Minnesota did anything, good or bad, that was worthy of the nation’s attention? You probably have to go back to 2019 when the Gophers started 9-0, reached the top-10 and finished 11-2. Since then, Fleck usually gets by beating up on the bottom half of the Big Ten without threatening to raise the ceiling nor getting himself on the hot seat. But with three losses in Minnesota’s last four games, including 38-35 at Northwestern where kicker Brady Denaburg missed a 40-yarder to tie, the fury is starting to boil. It’s still only a local story — again, nobody outside of the Twin Cities pays attention to Minnesota at all — but it’s worth monitoring. Earlier this year, there was talk in the industry that Fleck could be ready for a change of scenery. If he has an opportunity somewhere else, even with a lateral move, this might be the time to get a fresh start.
DeBoer to PSU rumors were around when JF first got let go and then died down but recently I’m seeing them again. No idea if true or not. Elko was the other one but he extended his deal at A&M.Josh Pate says:
“I know where Lane will be in 2026
all I can say is WOW!”
I’m guessing Texas or bama.
The Texas AD is a slime ball…so is kiffin…I can totally see itDeBoer to PSU rumors were around when JF first got let go and then died down but recently I’m seeing them again. No idea if true or not. Elko was the other one but he extended his deal at A&M.
So if DeBoer leaves then I could see Kiffin at Alabama.
Don’t know about Texas.
Ron Rivera had put a 8-9 win threshold before the season and that can’t be reached now. Louisville win (ranked at the time) doesn’t look as good now either.
I feel like fairly quickly after the season things will start moving, especially for some of these jobs that have been open for awhile.
Have seen Mora and Jeff Monken mentioned for Stanford.
From an Athletic article with regards to Cal:
Some potential names to watch for the job include Oregon defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi (a Cal alumnus), UConn head coach Jim Mora, San Diego State head coach Sean Lewis and UC Davis head coach Tim Plough.
Here's a name we have not heard about in a while-did not realize there was a directional New Mexico college!:
Art Briles is 69 years old.

DeSean Jackson's name coming up in various places, including The Athletic/NYT Until Saturday newsletter.
Light on experience, but. . . . .
There is a fine line between catching lightning in a bottle and being struck by lighting while trying to catch lightning in a bottle.I listened to a pod with Feldman and his name was brought up but basically it was a very outside chance and unlikely.
Since being let go, Wilcox has popped up for Oregon State too.I wonder if he'll take it, if offered, or wait for a better opportunity.
The new PAC might be a plus instead of Oregon State tryong to get in the Mountain West that lost members to the new PAC

James Franklin was a coach in waiting under Ralph Friedgen,at Maryland.A coach-in-waiting…if agreed upon by all, can be a very smart move that shelters a program from the cluster f*** that is the present day carousel.
I wish our former WBB coach had tried this vs cratering the program into a small pile of ash…
Again IF agreed upon…obviously practice is not the same as theory. In this day and age of utter chaos it might be worth it.James Franklin was a coach in waiting under Ralph Friedgen,at Maryland.
He didn't wait . * This I knew , didn't need google
These found googling :
Will Muschamp was Mack Brown's Coach in waiting at Texas
He didn't wait.
Joker Phillips was named the "head coach in waiting" under Rich Brooks at Kentucky
, Phillips' tenure as head coach was unsuccessful, resulting in a 13-24 record over three seasons before he was fired.
Dana Holgorsen was hired to be the offensive coordinator for the 2011 season and then take over as head coach from Bill Stewart in 2012. The situation "failed miserably" as the two coaches clashed, leading to an awkward atmosphere and Holgorsen taking over a year earlier than planned amid controversy.
Jimbo Fisher at FSU IN 2007 While Fisher did take over in 2010 and initially had success (including a national championship), the transition was not without drama. Bobby Bowden was essentially forced into retirement after the 2009 and before he was ready, which caused an uncomfortable ending to his iconic career and did not sit well with the legendary coach.
Whittingham hasn't decided , yet, when he will retire and Scalley head coach-in-waiting status might depend on offers to be a HC at another program if he's not named Utah's HC for the 2026 season or is assured by Whittingham that 2026 season will end his career as the Utah HC .
As for CVS or any HC that seems close to retirement, having a coach in waiting could be a good idea.
But the coach needs to be willing to retire within 2 years or expect the coach in waiting to be looking around and leave if offered a HC position at another program .
Whittingham seems like he's not going to hang on to the Utah job more than another year at most .
But I do wonder if he really wants to retire now that his Utes are so well 9-2 (6-2 Big 12) this season after being a disapointing 5-7 (2-7 confrence) in 2024.
He came back because he couldn't stand leaving after a year like that, he might just have enjoyed this one enough to say one more.
