Yeah. Mendoza is 6'5" with elite arm talent, great decisions, and excellent scrambling ability. Why he was ranked where he was out of HS is a mystery, but obviously that was a recruiting miss. It's also possible that he developed later in life than your typical prospect but he was very good at Cal as well.

I'm not going to argue that Hecklinski can't be a high level QB, because nobody knows that anymore than anybody knowing that he will. He hasn't shown what he can or can't do.

Drew Tate is not a great comp, at least in terms of reputation coming in. He was an Army All American that was headed to Texas A&M before a coaching change sent him to Iowa.

Could be back to what we were talking about in the basketball thread. Is talent evaluation at an all time low due to agents, AAU programs/ high school preps, pay for services?

Well, Mendoza was recruited before NIL was even a thing. There has always been misses in recruiting. Even the NFL has draft misses. Number one overall picks have even busted. Coop was rated the 26th best safety out of high school, fell to the second round in the draft and was named to the Pro Bowl and a likely All Pro in his second year.

I don't know how many times we have to rehash this. His family was chased out of West Branch by a group of torch and pitchfork bearing psychotics. Nestor left the team shortly thereafter.
Do you live in West Branch. I have family who lives there and friends with kids on the team. He didn't fit in or try to. Don'y blame Wsst Branch residents.

Nah. I'm just stirring shat up. 😃 I do have family there though and I met his father who seemed affable enough. Didn't someone write an article expressing embarrassment over how he and his family were treated by some members of the community?

Where did Iowa's passing numbers rank in the Big10 this year again? He was a step up from the worst stretch of QB play that Iowa has seen in the last 40 years, and his mobility was a huge benefit, but let's not pretend that he is a talented passer. Iowa fans are clueless with respect to what good QB play looks like.
Yet Miami before Beck and other schools offered him. He’s a good Qb.

fans want Iowa to go out and get a great Qb in portal. One it takes 2 to tango and they have interest in Iowa which we all know why it isn’t as attractive and second it takes large sum of $ to get these guys if they are interested.

As for my point ripping on a guy cause of lack of offers or by whom shouldn’t factor in. Be it gronowski, hecklinski or guys this year if it is manske or anyone else. Hank brown had sec offers does it matter at this point or not? As for knock on Hecklinski people forget staff that recruited him at WF put up massive passing stats and records there. Good enough when their qb used free covid year ND is where he went and his offers out of HS similar to Hecklinski. Look at all the talented non P4 qbs who got early PT and in the portal. Their offer list weren’t too impressive either.

I think fans just want good QB play. However they get there is irrelevant, but Iowa hasn't shown an ability to recruit/develop QB's over the past 10 years, so color me and others skeptical. If Heck is a great talent that can run the offense at a high level then that's great. If there is someone out there that the staff sees as a superior option then I say go for it. I also understand that Iowa isn't an appealing destination for high school or portal QB's, but sitting on a bench behind other very talented players or playing at a less prestigious program makes the portal a potentially more fertile source of higher end talent.

seems like a solid time to look at who Barnes is following along with those listed before.

Eli Ozick (NDSU kicker)
Braden Awls (Safety Toledo)
Tyler Brown (Safety JMU)
Anthony Hawkins (DB Villanova)
Chris Bracy (DB Memphis)
Jamari Hawkins (WR Memphis)
Tre Brown (WR Old Dominion)
Darin Conley (DT/DE Ball State)
Micah Mays jr (WR wake forest)
Kamari Maxwell (WR Austin Peay)

Not sure where to dump this at, I wonder if the hawks are targeting any of the current ISU roster?

DB: Cooper or Williams would be great gets
S: Neal would be my choice, Iowa recruited Patton though
QB: Manske would be awesome, there is zero chance Becht ends up at Iowa with the Payday he probably walks away with
WR: Sowell, Eskildsen, Townsend, Zay Robinson (kids HS athleticism was nuts)
LB: Bacon

So when your brain got scrambled in the accident you didn't have insurance to put it back together?

Moulton is just more proof KF doesn't always play the best players. Your slavish devotion to reality-denial denies you any chance at credibility.

Iowa is definitely a bargain shopper. Get guys who they like from a lower level and offer them a chance to play in the B1G. Doesn't mean they won't pursue a guy from a P4 program, but I doubt they will pony up the $ to get someone with impressive numbers at the P4 level. We will see if KF proves me wrong.

I’m hoping that’s because they’ve had to spend heavy on QBs the first 3 years of the NIL world.

It’s a good listen.
Only heard there’s interest from Iowa in their secondary pieces. I could see Jontez and Cooper, they’re both really good. I think Neal is PSU bound. Cooper threw some shade at ISU fans on the way out so that’d be interesting.

I don't think anyone on here will mistake me for a Ferentz fluffer. Nestor was beyond bad when he was on the field at Iowa. They literally gained by subtraction when he left. I think you can throw a blanket over all the RBs. They are all serviceable but none are spectacular, same as most years. SG and KJ had great individual seasons but they are outliers. It has always amazed me the lack of big-time RBs Iowa has pulled in considering their commitment to the running game over the years. Wegher and Jermelle Lewis were probably the best out of HS
Now if you want to talk about mismanagement at the QB position, I am sure we can find some common ground.

Iowa should absolute be on an ISU safety to replace X , WRs I would look at too. Some had Iowa offers so who knows. DT is still My biggest concern along with getting 1 starter quality OL AND a Kicker , Be interesting to see what Iowa does

We'll see if he chooses better than Devin Brown going to Cal. How much did he get for his 4-7, 48 yds 1 TD 1 Int?
Bet it wasn't much since they didn't hold on to Mendoza. They probably also paid quite a big for Sagapolutele, the #7 qb in the 2025 class.

Devin. Sorry I was sort of referring to my post about how little he did at Cal this year. Then a few hours later he jumped back in the portal.

Tommorrow the portal opens, will be interesting to see where the Iowa coaching staff focuses their resources.

My guess is DL (2), Kicker, WR (1), Safety (1)

TE and RB is deep, OL had a lot of depth so doubt we need much. Have to trust Lester on QB position but very little experience. Too much LBer talent in-house to not let them play.

Would not surprise me in the least to see Jeremiah Smith in the portal. He can pretty well name his price. One year left in college and he won't be winning another natty as long as Sayin is the QB.

Ohio State needs to buy the best OL. Sayin ain’t the problem.

Sayin was in the Heisman conversation. He didn't have a great game yesterday, but the reason they lost was all on the oline getting manhandled all night long.

I would watch Micah Mays the WR from Wake Forest for obvious connections with Iowa , 2 years of eligibility left and has experience and speed
