Wonder where Air Noland will be headed. No idea why he transferred to South Carolina knowing that Sellers was going to be there. Former 5* guy, originally at OSU. Wonder if this is going to become Malachi Nelson v2.0

Iowa did not offer Will Tompkins from Cedar Falls out of high school, so I doubt he's an option, but he did just enter the portal. ISU is going to be depleted.

Xay Robinson and maybe Manske are the only two off their roster I could see Iowa going after. Still have a hard time wrapping my head around how Iowa lost 3 of the last 4 to them.

24 transferring out. On3 lists 4 of them as elite. Clowns have 19 players in the NFL which is half what we have. But 3 of them are WRs to our 1.
KF would be wise to go after at least one of their portal WRs. There are some others worth looking at but I haven't made up my mind which ones.

Who's going to throw him the ball again?
I really want to argue with you on this, but I completely agree. Adding depth to the Dline, and paying for a QB would be my priority. We have Budmayr as a WR coach, so I'm not confident in the WR position as a whole.

Yeah. His 8 yards passing in his career so far scream can't miss QB. At least his pedigree, with offers out of high school from Eastern Kentucky, Georgia Southern, UCF, and Wake Forest instill confidence. I'm surprised nobody else paid some large $$ to pick him up. We're lucky to have him, especially given the lack of injuries.

I get it, but he is better than Brown. Looks mobile. I would take Manske, but the other portal guys are going to cost too much and I would rather pay for DL, a CB and maybe a OL

QB is the most important position in sports. That's why they are expensive, and where you invest your money.

If 10 is the starter he is gonna block anyone from seeing field for 2 or 3 years.

Rivals recruiting rating out of HS:

Fernando Mendoza- 79.83
Jeremy hecklinski- 87.94

Mendoza was headed to ivy league but got a last minute offer to Cal,his only div.1 offer.

Jeremy was poy in his high division in Georgia HS...drew Tate is my comp.... Texas and Georgia HS fb is top shelf.

Won't a number of the ISU transfers end up following their old coach? I would think that anyone Iowa might be interested in would be good enough for Penn St, even if they're not a starter.

He passes the eye test more so than anyone I have seen come through recently. Doesn't appear to be a loner and didn't appear to pee himself in the environment.

I think this just points out that rankings for QBs are dubious at best. Of the top 10 QBs in some of the classes below players that I think have panned out. Then you have guys like Drew Mestemaker, Mendoza, Pavia, John Mateer...

2024 class:
1.) Julian Sayin (#2)
2.) CJ Carr
3.) Maybe Grunkenmeyer

2023 class: Marcel Reed was 20th, Sam Leavitt was 24th,
1.) Manning
2.) Moore
3.) Johnson

2022 class: Rocco Becht was the 36th qb in this class, and Carson May former Iowa QB was 30th, Josh Hoover from TCU was 41st
1.) Stockton
2.) Simpson
3.) Maybe Allar

Who were Gronowksi’s offers out of HS?

Sama is on his way out as well.

I hate doing this because it's a story from my buddy who knows several big donors at Iowa St. So yeah, it's one of those...

But

According to him multiple donors have said Abu Sama is not a very intelligent individual. Lots of talent and upside but when he comes in the plays get funneled to run right or run left. He can't remember the playbook.

That said, I had him transfer to Iowa in NCAA 24 and 25. No sliders, no anything... both versions of the game he just wanted to come. I won the Heisman with him twice. Clearly this is a premonition.

Where did Iowa's passing numbers rank in the Big10 this year again? He was a step up from the worst stretch of QB play that Iowa has seen in the last 40 years, and his mobility was a huge benefit, but let's not pretend that he is a talented passer. Iowa fans are clueless with respect to what good QB play looks like.

ISU has a history of talented RBs with cognitive deficiencies

Yeah. Mendoza is 6'5" with elite arm talent, great decisions, and excellent scrambling ability. Why he was ranked where he was out of HS is a mystery, but obviously that was a recruiting miss. It's also possible that he developed later in life than your typical prospect but he was very good at Cal as well.

I'm not going to argue that Hecklinski can't be a high level QB, because nobody knows that anymore than anybody knowing that he will. He hasn't shown what he can or can't do.

Drew Tate is not a great comp, at least in terms of reputation coming in. He was an Army All American that was headed to Texas A&M before a coaching change sent him to Iowa.
