Who was faster than Pollard? Please, Pollard finished fourth at 14 years old in the nation at a high profile meet. Nation. AC has already thrown more passes in 4 games than the whole regular season last year at South. Is that 3 yards and a cloud of dust? No.

id have to look back at track records. From my understanding and I could be wrong but to my understanding he only finished like 3rd or 4th in conf meet. Not sure why he didn't compete all 4 years at South in track.

Why would he? He was a great wrestler but only joined the team for a month after football. Not even enough time to cut weight. Football was his ticket.

I can believe it(graduated all starters). Fri night looked like a mess but not to go losing all hope if your a South fan. Even Kicks 103 had some positive things to say bout this South team in reference to future and from past experiences watching young teams and how they turn out the very next year/year after that.

Observations from Maiden game:

South was slow, musta graduated all the track speed last year or almost all of it. Maiden QB turned up the juice and took advantage of the slower speed and poor tackling Obvisously.
Tyler Goins, Souths bright spot of the season, still got yards and yards after a tackle. Started last year. The guy can possibly go somewere and no doubt has an offer and hypothetically speaking could help Hibriten and West if he played for them, maybe not start but be a heck of a backup.

Freshman QB has decent size and height for his age and should improve a lot if given patience and practice along with staying healthy, out of trouble, stays faithful.

Then again, I don't know the kids or what grade most of them are( I should have bought a program but I got too many of those things on a shelf over the years) and I've seen before were a good class of boys come through and they never really rebound or reload after that senior loss. Foard is a good example of that(05' 06') team I think.

One thing for South holds true, they have nowhere to go but up. May be a goose egg season but 2 years from now might be a different story.

I highly doubt South goes winless in this terrible conference.

You may be right. If they get Goins more involved in the game and improve week to week like they've been doing but been in a slow fashion then no reason why they can't beat Foard at least. Not sold on them beating Saint or Hickory just yet lol.

Sorta thought there was some promise with Hickory when they kept it close with Statesville. But as it turns out Statesville isn't as explosive like they usually are

South has 3 chances Foard, Saint and Hickory I'd say they win at least 1 of them.
This Friday will be ugly in Sawmills though.

Yeah it will get ugly. Other than a few things said on here there won't be any post or threads on this game. Usually isn't when people know the outcome.

May not look as ugly as a Mallard Creek/ Highland Tech game but won't be a gate buster like it usually is.

When Foard beat Bandys I figured South would have a zero win year like they've had a couple times before.

They did move the ball on Maiden when Goins would get the carry and a lucky shot here and there on this air attack. So I like their chances of coming out with at least 1 win, maybe 2

Pollard was the fastest white RB I have seen at this level.
His junior season, our fastest kids struggled to keep up with him.
This was the only year recently that South played Freedom close, and they won.

Pollard finished in 8th place in the conference as a sophomore in the 100m. That was the year that Pearson from Hibriten broke the conference record in the event.
If you seen the guy play football, that didn't matter. No one caught the guy, no one! Once he had a crease or got in open field, bye, bye.

I've seen track stars make not so good/terrible running backs

If I remember correctly, Kris Gardin couldn't run Pollard down!
KG is a tremendous athlete with 4.4 speed on a bad day. Breaking
FCS records at NC A&T.

Nobody on South last year had more speed than Pollard. You are insane if you think that. South had better team speed than normal for them last year but that was as an overall team. No real burner just better than most years. I know that there was a really fast JR. who decided not to play. I know a starting LB has already quit this year. South would go about 4-7 this year with a coach who knew how to use the little talent they have. Rebuilding was always going to be the theme. This coach is just so arrogant that he is going to run his stuff and not worry about adjustments for the talent you have. He made a comment on the radio show the other night that South has never had a workout program or offseason program. That should tell you how much he knows. They have had one of if not the best in the area for a long time with the BFS program. He doesn't have a clue. And the more games that go by the more parents and people in the area are realizing it. Some on the outside don't see it but from us on the inside who are close with the program...he may want to enjoy the NC weather cause that may be all he has after the season.

Cpark sounds like things have gone south (pun intended). Bad recruiting year at South, nothing more. No Pollard from St. Stephens, no Landon Dickerson from Hickory. It happens. Gotta get better at enticing kids over the lake bridge. Actually I'm just pulling your chain Cpark. Kids can go where they like if its within the rules and both were.

I don't care if they are starting the whole JV squad. The loss to Bandys is shameful. Not even competitive in the last game. Too many kids not to be able to field a better team.

Can't wait for Hibriten to move to 2A. They become an instant threat to regional great teams.

That's all South cares about according to what I keep seeing on this post and what I see as obvious. Thing about Freedom is those kids are 3 sport and don't put all their eggs in one basket.

Heck if this coach as South catches too much flak and leaves and Harper or Helms comes to the rescue things may not be much better. Helms may have a much better fit at South than he has had with other recent teams. I've never known a man to jump to so many differ high schools. Seems he's coached half the area, even had one year at West Charlotte and West Lincoln. I'd say bring em' on after this year what have they got to lose.

Helms would have stayed at Freedom had the admin supported him after he disciplined his kid. Yes it was discipline. I can't even remember how many times my momma slapped the back of my head. Its obvious from my posts, right.

Ashe throws it 90% of the time. Watauga runs the spread and throws it a bunch. Alexander Central ran the spread and threw it a lot under Harper. And non of those schools are loaded with "athletes". Tuscola brought a dominant passing game to Lenoir and beat the best team Hibriten has ever put on a field.
Point being it can be done.

I'd take Shelby into account on that deal. Hopefully for Hibritens sake one will be AA and other A. That would be a heck of a matchup this year and def next year.

To be honest, has Hibriten even played anybody that would be a test other than Maiden?
Nope. And the conference won't be much better. Patton and Watauga can score but don't play defense. Freedom has the talent but not the coaching. And the rest of the games will be unwatchable.

Prediction just for fun..Hibriten SHOULD make 3rd round. Don't see any reason why they wouldn't with the way they've tore it up on offense and defense. Who would most likely be the team they'll square off with in the 3rd round?

My guess would be either SP, WRowan, or some Guilford co school. I can't see KM considering they lost alittle bit and Burns beat em. Of course Burns has improved.

This Friday will be a terrible gate sale. I'm sure a lot of folks will be making their way to Gamewell to see if West can pull off a repeat.

This is funny, last year my crew and I went to see if West had anything for Lincolnton and it looked good for a quarter but got ugly. So we raced down to Hibriten to see the Patton upset lol

One thing I like about Helms.... he will surround himself with good coaches.
One weakness I noticed was his ability to call plays in critical moments. Very
good offensive coach overall.

And yes, if I cursed my father, or mother an apt to the dentist.....:(

On the same note... Blair Hardin was one of the best at calling plays in

I just don't think you will ever see Helms coaching in this area again, I def don't see him at South.....while I am all for discipline of my kids, it should be done in the home and not in public. I've watched Helms up close, the guy is unstable.

Although Helms isn't my favorite..... if a teenage son throws the f word
at his dad in a challenging manner, a face slap is getting off light imo.
Not to mention son is 2 to 3 inches taller than dad. This didn't keep him from
getting hired at Hickory.

In regards to Helms, he had Freedom on track and who knows what may have been if he would have remained as coach. His last year at the school, Freedom was one game away from a state championship appearance and he had a 230 pound LB at QB. The last time the guy had played QB was in Middle school. The bottom line is, Helms had Freedom rolling.

Watauga doesn't throw it that much, Beamer. When they beat Ashe, I think Watauga's RB had 5 TDs alone. The QB ran for 2 or 3 and passed for 2. The receivers aren't that great and the size is lacking. Watauga still has to get tougher on defense, hopefully they can do that tonight at Saint.

Don't know anything bout Saint but apparently they lost a lot from last year. Should be an easy gimmie for Watauga.

I think Watauga and Freedom will also be a good one. All recent matches wasn't easy for Freedom when they lined up with them. Don't remember last year.

I'll be down at Gamewell seeing what coach Beam has going on for the Red Devils so no NW4a for me. All games too predictable tonight lol

Oh if anyone wants to see a more unpredictable game in the area other than N-C and WestCaldwell, Butch Carter and the tater town crew will be taking on South Iredell.

This is NW4a page, but Butch was with us a LONG time so let's see if he can muster up an upset tonight. South Iredell has been a powerhouse for years, rarely having rebuilding seasons.

Me too brother, me too. Losing a Senior QB is one of the hardest things a HS coach and team will face. I do believe Habich is a stellar coach and has rallied the troops. Not sure they're Freedom or Hibriten good, but for Watauga, I'll take the season they're having. Just wish I could get to Boone for a game. I'll be at the Tennessee High @ Elizabethton High game tonight. Vikings are usually solid, but I think the Cyclones have their number tonight.

Souths JV's have shown zero promise. Too many freshman playing on varsity. JV scores about the same as varsity. Haven't won a game. And to be honest with y'all...no way Helms is at South ever. Harper on the other hand, I've heard good things about that if he ever wanted that job.
