Not with same staff and loss of 7 starters on D and loss of Martinez, IMHO. OL should get a lot better hopefully (been saying that for 4 years). We will lose a lot on defense our strong point this year. Can we really expect in year five to take a step forward?
One word: Portal. We will lose a lot on defense our strong point this year. Can we really expect in year five to take a step forward?
Yep. Portal is huge for adding for need. And those fan bases that pay best (NLI) will have an advantageOne word: Portal.
Look at what Penn State did with it's defense from 2020 to 2021 by smartly using the portal.
It can be done.
So the same defensive staff that has put together a defense that has improved every single year since they got here isn't going to be able to put together another good defense next year? Not with same staff and loss of 7 starters on D and loss of Martinez, IMHO. OL should get a lot better hopefully (been saying that for 4 years).

The portal is like no consequences free agency for college. We've got to find a way to monetize good players leaving lesser programs and coming to Nebraska at positions of need using NIL. It's the world we live in. No sense fighting against it. It can help us. Heck, Alabama has no problem taking the best players from Tennessee. If you want to cash checks, now and in the future, you move to Alabama. One word: Portal.

When have we smartly used the portal? Toure is about the only positive I can think of.One word: Portal.

older DanielsWhen have we smartly used the portal? Toure is about the only positive I can think of.
It's very possible. The extra year of experience for this defense was huge, and it's likely we won't have that same benefit next year. If Daniels and CTB come back, I think we'll be fine. If Daniels leaves especially, I think we may struggle. So the same defensive staff that has put together a defense that has improved every single year since they got here isn't going to be able to put together another good defense next year?
Sure bud.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Grimes got in that mix also.Who replaces Toure in the slot? Nixon, Alante or TBD.

Of the three, Martin seems like he would be the best fit in the slot.Need to have Betts, Manning and Martin on the field together.
Most definitely, unfortunately it will be too late to realize next year.So the same defensive staff that has put together a defense that has improved every single year since they got here isn't going to be able to put together another good defense next year?

Just my opinion, but I think frost’s scheme is too complicated for it’s own good. I literally believe that Frost and or Lubick watch NFL on Sundays and try to install some random play they happened to like.word on the street is manning and betts have been lackadaisical researching the playbook.
that ought be corrected soon. the day that you tarry, is the day that you die.
So you're saying they won't be able to put together a good defense next year? Most definitely, unfortunately it will be too late to realize next year.
That's literally not what they do.Just my opinion, but I think frost’s scheme is too complicated for it’s own good. I literally believe that Frost and or Lubick watch NFL on Sundays and try to install some random play they happened to like.
Defensive line will be young and inexperienced, but the defense as a whole should be solid. Not too concerned about that side of the ball as Frost has little to do with it.
I think we can expect the defense to have a small drop off.. many of next years guys are seeing playing time.We will lose a lot on defense our strong point this year. Can we really expect in year five to take a step forward?
I think yes, given a much more manageable schedule. We will lose a lot on defense our strong point this year. Can we really expect in year five to take a step forward?
Possible, not likely IMO. I suspect mistakes galore once again with a bunch of new players. I doubt the staff can land any solid transfer portals at this point, unless we win 4 more games. So you're saying they won't be able to put together a good defense next year?

Oh, lofl.Possible, not likely IMO. I suspect mistakes galore once again with a bunch of new players. I doubt the staff can land any solid transfer portals at this point, unless we win 4 more games.
Lofl....ok.Assuming NU doesn't totally implode the rest of the way and this staff is back, next year we will almost win, but lose several games we are picked to lose; and lose at least two we are picked to win. Nothing will change because the philosophical approach this staff takes won't change, and that philosophy (whatever it is) doesn't win a lot of games.
If only Oregon and UCF won a bunch of games...Assuming NU doesn't totally implode the rest of the way and this staff is back, next year we will almost win, but lose several games we are picked to lose; and lose at least two we are picked to win. Nothing will change because the philosophical approach this staff takes won't change, and that philosophy (whatever it is) doesn't win a lot of games.
So, the consensus on this board is, in fact, quite a bit has changed with Trev at the helm. Why do you think nothing will change?Assuming NU doesn't totally implode the rest of the way and this staff is back, next year we will almost win, but lose several games we are picked to lose; and lose at least two we are picked to win. The stuff Frost is running how is easier but requires a lot of reps to master it.Just my opinion, but I think frost’s scheme is too complicated for it’s own good. I literally believe that Frost and or Lubick watch NFL on Sundays and try to install some random play they happened to like.
His playbook is virtually the same as it was at Oregon and UCF, minor tweaks and some additions that evolved from defenses adjusting to alignments and tendencies. The stuff Frost is running how is easier but requires a lot of reps to master it.
