Meyer has too much negative baggage

He didn't do anything illegal and nor did Hugh Freeze. Who gives a **** that a 20 year old something chick tried to get lucky.

The guy is one of the best college football head coaches in the history of the sport and he is still young enough to get a decade or more out of him.

We are delusional if we turn down a chance to get Urban.

Dan Mullen - flopped out at Florida, a state rich with football talent. Don't think he can bring us back.

Gus Malzahn - would be a great hire but not sure he would want to leave UCF for a dumpster fire.

Chip Kelly - another great hire but why would he want to leave his job at UCLA for a dumpster fire.

Mike Leach - mediocre record

Mark Dantonio - a solid hire. Couldn't hurt to give him a call and see if he is interested.

Gary Patterson - flopped out in his last couple years at TCU

Jim Tressel - definitely a possibility.

Bobby Petrino - good solid coach. Should reach out and see if he is interested.
I think you should keep Frost. He's about the only coach Nebraska might be able to get right now after firing Pelini for 9 win seasons and then hiring the last couple of guys. Doubt there's many guys lining up to come to Nebraska after that...

That would probably be true if we were Purdue. Fortunately, we’re not Purdue.

LMAO. No. You're Nebraska. Which the B1G should never have added. You're a laughing stock in basketball and a shell of a football program since you canned Pelini for winning 9 games. Remind me, which team was 3-9 and which was 9-4 last year? And who currently has the better coach?

At this point I have three very realistic names with three very different aims, all superior to the nonsense we've suffered as a fan base for the past couple decades:

1. Urbs
2. Jeff Grimes
3. Jeff Monken

#1 is what it is at this point. Can't stand the dude as a human being, but he'd get us where we need to be QUICK and get his little "redemption story". Win win, even if selling the soul a bit. I'm at that point now sadly. 100%. He'd go for it, idc what people think on that aspect of it. Rhule would be great too, but I'm more doubtful about that possibility than Urbs ATM.

#2 is who I was calling for last year when antirowboat started lists. Wide zone play action guru. The true reason behind Aranda's success in my opinion. Might go for it if he aspires to become a HC. We've had three previous HC's fail us (Callahan, Riley, Frost) compared to three coordinators who came in and had us compete (TO, Solich, Pelini). This path is appealing to me. Plus Big 12 isn't one of the superconferences. Sell him on that easily.

#3 at the very least gets us solid, fundamentally sound quality tough football that will win more than it loses. At this point, I'd settle. Very Iowesque, but better than this ****... Again... Superconferences. Convince him easily.

Thoughts??

Couple names that have already been mentioned are interesting. Seeing now the the Big 12 and the Pac12 are kind of imploding I wonder if you might be able to pull Aranda away from Baylor. That dude has a really calming way about him and is pretty low on the drama meter. Another that has scuffled a little as of late, but would maybe be a decent fit is David Shaw. If Utah can't find a landing spot in the Big 10, I would make a run at Kyle Whittingham. All bigger schools. The are a few mid major guy, but a big time target for a fair amount of people would be Fickell at Cincy.

Shaw hasn't done **** in years. Why would anybody want him.

Really like Aranda though.

Thank you for stating the obvious. 20 years of garbage isn't enough to get some people past their moral superiority. I couldn't care less who he gets a lap dance from. And really, Hugh Freeze is worth a shot if we can't get Meyer.

For millions of more dollars? YES.
The funny thing is, coaches like Saban and Dabo recruit nationally. They may not need to make much of a recruiting pitch, but they aren't pulling in 90% of their recruits from the home state. That stuff about recruiting primarily from their cars is just BS. Look at the makeup of a Bama team and you'll see the best Alabama kids, but they aren't the majority of the roster.

True. And the majority of the out of state recruiting is done by assistant coaches.

Trev is a financial guy, so he as opposed to Moos will look to spend his $ wisely. With the NIL landscape now you almost need to put more money in to your players than your coach.
I highly doubt he would come here, but Doren at NC State would be a name I would take, but the price tag would be up there.

The next head coach should be Tommie Frazier or Christian Peter, because everybody knows it has to be a former player who understand the super dooper unique culture that exists at Nebraska and definitely not anywhere else.

You think he’d leave the state of Texas for Nebraska? You think his wife would go for being on the road 75% of the time vs going to the local high school for top talent?
I thought about it...I think isu's coach...he's normal, has them play well, don't cuss out fans or call onside kicks up by 11.....

While Freeze's program did nothing illegal under the law, it was an NCAA rules nightmare that got them blasted by the Committee on Infractions (you can read the report online). Add to that Freeze's phony sanctimonious religion (except when he needs a hooker) and no thanks

It would be hilarious to go from Frost to Freeze though.

Luke Fickell, I know he's a former OSU player and coach but he's very good at what he does. I know he's under contract till 2028 with the University of Cincinnati but if we're going to get serious about this we need a guy who's a proven winner.

Fickell is 48 years old and has no baggage, he is married (Amy) and has six kids so he's a very stable family man. They started dating when Amy was a sophomore at Ohio State; they were married in 2000.

If Frost is let go midseason we will have an interim head coach and that coach would be someone on the current staff. I just don't see Alberts allowing this thing to fester much longer.

You know Nebraska will not go cheap when offering the job and someone like Fickell will almost demand top money to coach in the BIG.

The good part is Nebraska has shown tremendous patience and a new coach see's value in that. Nebraska is willing to give the new coach time to get it right. JMO and nothing more.

Riley was the polar opposite of Bo Pelini.
Mile Riley was a temporary fix to the Bo Pelini rot that he left with the program. Anyone remember the "Us against them" mentality that Bo instilled? Riley was there to cleanse the program of that. I figured that Frost came along at the right time to take the program back up. Boy was I wrong.

I see his name come up a lot and I have to ask why?

Not trying to be a wise guy because he’s probably better than Frost but he failed miserably at talent rich Texas. So how much better than Frost is he?
32-18 is failing miserably? Coming on the heels of Charlie Strong having just been fired at 16-20?

98% of the fan base have been wrong…. Knew it would take a little time but never thought 4 losing seasons and 5 on the way..

If he had never caught lighting in the bottle going unbeaten he wouldn’t have caught everyone eye by being a former player..

Meyer would be amazing and honestly, for 10 million a year and basically no pressure at all...he might listen.
Not a fan of Urban, but he wins. Lincoln has become that place one goes to coach, make millions and does not win (Callahan, Riley, Scott, Fred). Maybe smug Urban can reverse the trend.
