More likely to with the school’s first natty in tennis than the big 3 unless you’re counting women’s basketball.
The same thing could have been said about women’s basketball just a few short years ago. This is an appropriate upgrade in facilities for an elite program. Cohen demands excellence & MSU rewards it when it happens. Good job John Cohen. Hail State. With all do respect to the sport of Tennis, nobody would give a 17. That goes for track and field, softball, water polo, disc golf and any other after school activity. There are 3 sports that matter. Pour money into them.
We either have a true sports program or we dont. If we are going to compete in the SEC then we need the facilities. There just arent many other facilities that need major upgrades so spending 8 million on a sport we are a top 10 program in is well worth it.
Thoughts?

I agree. I just think we need to catch up in major sports before we pour money into minor sports. Without looking, I would be willing to bet we are the only school in the SEC without a true indoor practice facility for football.

i don't know about all that, but that little patch of green to the right is where my blue tent is going. Is there a spot for me to bring my grill in and leave it?

Did you say "do respect"?With all do respect to the sport of Tennis, nobody would give a 17. That goes for track and field, softball, water polo, disc golf and any other after school activity. There are 3 sports that matter. Pour money into them.
I’d rather our athletic department pour money into one of the big 3 sports facility upgrades. Anything outside of the big 3 is irrelevant in my opinion.
My understanding is that MSU is one of the few SEC schools without an indoor facility and it would affect recruiting even more sooner or later if it hasn’t already.
That $8 million investment is a statement to the other non-revenue sports that the athletics department and the university will support you.
It’s a good idea, in other words.
In 2023 MSU's athletic department will begin receiving $15+ million per year from the new TV deal. At that point, we'll be able to build whatever we want.

Hopefully they'll put in some designated spots for fans to have sex

That relates to spending on facilities used by male and female teams, so we can’t pour money into DWS and DNF unless we spend X amount on a venue that houses a female sports team.
Also, we almost had to move the tennis super regional we hosted this year to Tuscaloosa due to inclement weather. We need this as a commitment to our tennis program and a way to retain our coach, Matt Roberts, who is one of the best we have on campus regardless of sport.

Good grief....it’s an $8 million facility. Chump change. What are you suggesting we do for football, basketball, or baseball with that money that hasn’t already been done or isn’t already planned?
Go back to where you came from with that BS...
2023? We just spent $70 million on a damn college baseball stadium. We are already building whatever we want.
The fact is 99% of our fan base couldn’t name you one tennis player without googling it. Nobody is driving multiple hours to come sit and watch a tennis match. Excuse me for wanting our athletic department to invest in sports that actually matter in terms of branding, revenue, fan support. That 8 million dollars could have gone to a new indoor football practice facility. The palmeiro center is embarrassing.
