Moos says 8-9 Wins

Totally stupid for an AD to quote a number of wins going into a season. I don't care whose AD you are or how good they are. Reporters don't have a gun to your head, you don't have to say something like that.
Bold predictions are the rope with which to hang yourself. If the team does better, everyone will love you anyhow. If they do worse, there's you calling your shot so that you can look stupid.
And his opinion, Frost's opinion, Sipple's opinion, my opinion...they all add up to a difference of ZERO more wins. You don't win games by telling reporters in April you're gonna be good. You win them by BEING good in November.

No Way is the most realistic outcome 4-8, that is just crazy talk. I understand that we have not been setting the world on fire but 6-6 is realistic... with some luck 7 and a lot of good things going our way, 8 wins. I can't see us winning 9, even with a bowl game. I would love to be wrong though
I brought that up as an example of where many people see that comment as something set in stone, when I don't think it really means much of anything. He may keep Scott, or he could also fire him down the road. All he has to do is come up with a new narrative and say something to the press. This is how politicians and administrators work.
In conclusion, fans should not get worked up about his win loss prediction, in my opinion.
The Kool aid drinkers have been wrong on nearly everything for 3 years. That is why they are very fragile now.
giving penn st the benefit - Indiana is guaranteed to play 3 blue blood programs every single year (they played 4 in 2019) ... can you imagine the tantrum Frost and Moos would have if that was the case for Neb every year
I do too, maybe it is to light a fire under Frost and the coaches ***! Enough! Win now! I think 8 or 9 wins in year 4 of a coach with a $5 million salary is to be expected, some would say soft.

Who are all the kool aid drinkers you are referring too? I don't think anyone on here is all on board and doesn't realize there are problems.
You seem like you are more concerned with being right than having the team be good. Which is an odd take for a fan.
Saying Scott is here as long as I am? That’s a dangerous statement to me, one that if true could lead to his firing .
So for everyone that thinks Moos is saying the right things, how many are will to put $1000, hell $100 that Nebraska wins 8 or 9 games?
saying the right things doesn’t make him Nostradamus. Anyone putting $1000 down because Moos said 8-9 wins is expected hasn’t been paying attention to the previous 3 years.
You can still think it’s the right thing to say but also recognize it’s just coach speak.
As for me, I’m a sheep... it sounds good, so I’m not gonna complain about it. But if you think I believe that we are a shoo-in for 8-9 wins, then you’d be wrong. I would be happy with 8-9 wins, but will believe it when it happens.
My point is that putting an unrealistic number out there does nothing but lead to unrealistic fan expectations. Why put a number at all? Why not answer the question with more bull **** coach speak? We are improving day by day. We've turned a corner, we expect to see the win total rise this season, whatever.
But you know and I know that Nebraska has about a 10-15% chance to win 8 games and probably 3-5% to win 9. Now Moos has the average fan, that doesn't spend time on a message boards, thinking this team will be winning 8 or 9 games. I can find 6 wins, if I stretch 7, but finding 8 is going to be difficult right now. Perhaps it happens, but what purpose does making such claims do? How does it help the product on the field? His job should be to raise money, evaluate coaches, drink whiskey with the donors and run the athletic department.
I don’t disagree. It puts a target on his and Frost’s back. He should know better.
Maybe the urgency is felt by Frost and he does everything he can to put a better product on the field. And if not, the noose is even tighter for Moos.
So playing Cincy is a tougher game than playing OU in Norman.
Penn St/ Wisconsin who ever wins that game would the difference in your a moron thinking Cincy is a tougher game than OU..

Nebraska was #19 and #1 in the B1G. Although I would put our schedule Top 10 easy.
Regardless, it isn't Nebraska. I'll say Georgia Tech playing at Miami, at Notre Dame, at Clemson and vs Georgia and North Carolina is tougher than Nebraska's schedule.
Last I checked Georgia Tech and North Carolina don‘t play in the Big 10 conference.
I posted who else in the Big 10 has a tougher schedule....
The hand-wringing over this is bizarre. He said it and his rationale was correct. They'll either get there or they wont, and we'll be here to dissect it.

Haha...exactly. The endless Bo Haters here hated his 10 win seasons even more. Maybe Bo not ever having any losing seasons (his 7 years between Clownahan & Smiling Mike) makes their hatred of Bo truly beyond measure.
It may not be the toughest schedule in the country but we are playing 2 teams that have consistently been in the playoff.
It's not an easy schedule.

It takes time. Nobody wanted it to take this long. And I'm pretty sure 95% of the fanbase is under the impression we will take a big step forward this year showing progress or else we're off the Frost train.
8-9 wins isn't Nebraska's long term standard. It's THIS YEARS hopeful goal as we continue to rebuild and hopefully progress to become a great team again one day.

the main argument appears to be whether or not Moos needs to be in the win prognostication business. I mean unless he is giving ultimatums on how many wins the HC needs to save his job, which he isn’t.
personally I think he is unrealistic with his 8-9 wins.
as far as the schedule, it isn’t the toughest in America, as Moos proclaimed. It has 2 games that probably aren’t games that Nebraska would win 1 time in 1000. The rest are games Nebraska can win, but the issue is can they win all of them? To get to 8 Nebraska can only lose 2 games outside of Oklahoma and Ohio St. as I wrote, I can see Nebraska beating each of those teams if you look at the games one by one, where I have trouble is Nebraska playing consistently enough the entire year.
