Here I am struggling, on disability, trying to scrape up 100$ for my car tags and car insurance ( went into debt bigtime - which I can't afford - just to get my car repaired) so I can get to my doctors and go get my meds, trying to somehow get my car on the road so I can get to the freaking food bank so I will have food to eat.....

And then I read this.

It enrages me that people like us have to struggle to get by and the people that :1) don't deserve it and 2) have plenty of money anyways .... get more more and more - and for what ?

This stinks to high heaven and makes me literally nauseous.

But then again, maybe that's just my residual brain tumor tissue that they couldn't fish outta my head years ago....

Mfer's ... totally pisses me off.

Barney's golden parachute was never in any jeopardy. Wink and a nod when **** hit the fan over it, and now that the hubub has died down, what do they do ?

Right back to what they always intended.

Sickening. Literally sickening.

Make the correlation between your situation and Mitch. I am not seeing it. Are you also mad at Bill Gates, Elon Musk, etc. for having more money than they would ever need in multiple lifetimes or is there some actual connection to Mitch?

Has Batt started now? I know there was some confusion about his start date but I just read where Michigan named his understudy the AD so I assume he is taking on those duties now and Batt is now free to start here?

Yeah this is something that I think people don’t fully understand. Including the Gov apparently.

Mitch didn’t take any Uni or tax money.

Private funds could mean any number of possibilities. Most likely Joe Craft.

Could be a cohort of donors who were ready to see him out made him a little offer to expedite his exit.

Could be some Champions Blue LLC sponsor/affiliate slusmoney.

Maybe it came from what Cal was going to get. MB saved the AD multi millions by getting Cal to walk. Was in line for a nice golden parachute.

Joe Craft doesn't pay buyouts. The "private money" is an intentional play on words because champion blue llc is now a private entity.

Make no mistake that is University money that is now being diverted to pay for this buyout when he should've fired immediately when it came out he knew about the swimming coach perv but did nothing.

Instead, here we are.

Come on guys. We just hired a new AD at twice what a 20+ year employee made. It remains to be seen if that is worth it. The report said money was coming from private sources for Barnhart. the entire sequence of events just points to extravagance in college athletics as well as the bloat of administrative positions in all universities. Jurich hasn’t worked since he was canned at a relatively young age so he didn’t walk away a pauper.
No but he walked away a thief. Should have been put in jail for what he did.

I had a lot of respect for Mitch for a long time, but the way it ended for him has damaged him in my eyes a bit. I also know we don’t know everything behind the scenes to explain decisions like this. Personally, as an alum and parent of current student, I think Capiluto should be sent packing and the BOT needs an overhaul.

With that said… anyone who thinks Barney and Jurich are in the same slimeball rankings… think again. I have lived in Louisville most of my
life outside my years at Uk. Tom Jurich along with James Ramsey were possibly the worst crime syndicate the state has ever seen. Both embezzled millions from that university and were never held accountable other than being let go. Jurich never answered for the “missing” $19 million. Also, when someone crossed him, he sought to destroy their life… getting people fired was his specialty. Tom Jurich WAS not a good man on ANY level.

Yes,
Mitch whined and certainly had his not so good moments, but he never set out to destroy lives the way Jurich did.

Fellas, there simply is no comparison.

Mitch is Mother Teresa compared to Tom!
Jurich was an absolute POS.

I’m not a fan but good for him. He’s doing what anyone would do given the same situation and opportunity. The university and private donors can afford it. Nothing to see here.
You taking the money would be just as wrong as mitch taking it. Is your argument that you too are fueled by greed?

How much can you make and not be “fueled by greed?” What is the limit before you get tabbed as greedy? I have worked in third world countries. Many who complain in this country have it good by comparison. What is the greed threshold?

Somewhere between doing work for the money I make and not taking it from the institutions I claim to support. Which I guess makes me ungrateful?

As much as I could get. What i wouldn't do is retire and ask my buddy to pull some strings for a few more millions to watch from the sidelines. Im expected to live on what I've made after I retire. Why does Mitch get to be the exception?

Interesting. You see your salary as outside of greedy and give yourself a higher ceiling. So, if you were head coach of UK basketball, how much would you get paid?

I’ve never understood golden parachutes for execs who have already been paid millions by their respective companies. Many of whom, ( and Mitch fits squarely in this category), have done marginal jobs. But the first guy who convinced his company to do this was a got damn genius.

I reject your statement of the facts. I have no idea if Mitch is greedy. It’s a stupid accusation from others who also don’t know. Mitch is not an exception. People who work in high money industries and run big organizations get payments at retirement all of the time. So, definitely not an exception.

I don’t know if he’s greedy or not. He may just be arrogant enough to think he’s worth it. I personally see zero value in the position. Again, if our new AD needs Mitch to hang around, we hired the wrong AD.

Reject all you want but he's being greedy in this case. Its a fair criticism. If it was a private school they can do what they want but it's a public university so it's all of our business to call out stuff like this.

It’s private funds from people who get to spend their money the way they want. They evidently saw Mitch as a huge plus to UK athletics over the last 20 years and they don’t care what you think. I support them using their money the way they want. UK being a public school is totally irrelevant. If it’s not your money, it’s not your business. Seriously.

But I predict you will eventually move on from this and find something else to cause you great consternation.

Remember when we thought Jurich was corrupt? At least he was corrupt to help the University.
Yet another example of the joke that you are. Jurich was a corrupt fraud, ran a dirty program, and was fired. He was corrupt to profit himself, his family, and friends.

Nah, it was a false equivalency and a shot at Barnhart because you’re a hate filled fraud. Jurich’s corruption was to benefit the school you say? Yeah, you’re a complete joke.

Uh... yes?!? If you think Jurich didn't move UL atheltics ahead by miles, you're an absolute idiot.

You can call him a scumbag all you want, I'd agree. He fleeced the entire state of KY to the benefit of UL athletics.
You worship trash. He is a scumbag and so are you hate filled lowlife. Even their miles ahead billboards work on simpletons like you.

Your IQ is lower than your age isnt it? No one is praising Jurich here, you absolute mouth breather. You HAVE to be related to Mitch with as angry as you are getting. You've been ranting and raving like an idiotic lunatic all evening. Give it a rest.

I haven't read up on this new deal, but from what I have heard, it's private donations from boosters that Capiluto raised like he said he would.

IF that is in fact true, then OK. It's private money. They are allowed to donate it however they see fit. The fact it's a public university is irrelevant.

The prior deal, where Eli just backdoored a $1 mil sweetheart deal the day Mitch announced he's going to retire, that came from school funds, hell yes....that was absurd. It's a public university. He didn't have that compensation written into his contract for retirement, and noe all of sudden we're gonna find the money in the budget to give this guy a parachute, while simultaneously screaming poor to the fans for donations to pay players? The height of stupidity and arrogance. Terrible optics.

However, if some affluent booster(s) decided they liked Mitch and appreciated his 24 yrs enough here to kick in on a farewell find, then that's their prerogative. Its no different than if they decided to earmark specific donations for baseball or football or basketball etc. It's their money and they are absolutely allowed to stipulate what it goes to, or it goes to nothing at all. People ITT refusing to accept that reality......also stupidity.

I will conclude with, IF it is as simple as these boosters just kicking in money out of the goodness of their hearts.......we've achieved the triple crown of stupidity. You don't become wealthy by spending money foolishly. Mitch has been an AD for a long time. He's made a healthy salary while here and I'm sure he did at Oregon State as well. I can imagine feeling so compelled to kick in on several million as a going away present. I don't care how much money I have, or how much I like the guy. He isn't hurting. It makes zero financial sense. So, this also is pure stupidity, even if it is as simple as they just want to.

Nonsense. All of it.

You're right that people can do what they want but im going to need to see some proof that someone graciously paid 5 million to a guy for staying home. You are purposefully missing the point of what im saying so you can be smug. If thats what brings you joy, go for it.

3.2 million. The original contract had a honoree administrative role for Mitch where I think the University expected to use him and his years of contacts and experiences for the benefit of the school and athletic department, just not as AD. For a guy who has served at the highest levels of the NCAA and managed one of the biggest athletic budgets in the country, maintaining him as a resource was reasonable. It paid less than $1 million per year. Beshear and others blew a cap and forced the university in a PR move to honor the contract without the angst. Private donors stepped in to work out a deal that eliminated athletic department funds but still honored the intent and expectation of the contract. One could argue that Beshear and the loud voices actually hurt the university because we arguably lose the expectation that Mitch will be working for his payout. Athletic Departments have a long history of honoring coaches and retired ADs with roles as they retire from their longstanding service. To be clear, nothing about this incessant discussion brings me joy. You can cry for proof. I hope you get that proof.

Nonsense. All of it.

It isnt private donations. Its private funds, which was a specific term used for a specific reason because champions blue llc is a private entity.

Its literally the exact same thing. They just finessed the words to make it sound better. It worked because now everyone thinks its just a booster paying but its still coming from athletics. Just the new private llc version.
